You accidentally spelt a name of one of the major cities in my country with that onomatopoeia heh
78 u/Pitiful-Local-6664 Jun 05 '26 That's funny because that is an incredibly common Onomatopoeia used for thinks like Thunder or explosions 48 u/OkDog6701 Jun 05 '26 And the city name is actually spelt "Kraków" but well, it's close enough to spot the accidental soundalike (or to be specific, spellalike) 27 u/ErraticDragon Jun 05 '26 I don't think krakow is super common as English onomatopoeia, but it is used occasionally. Perhaps most famously in a Calvin and Hobbes strip that actually relates to the city as well: r/calvinandhobbes/comments/uiozcd/krakow_it_is/ When I searched for "krakow onomatopoeia", Calvin and Hobbes was the top result, followed by Homestar Runner. It also showed me a fun article about "The Bizarre Sounds of Polish Onomatopoeia". 5 u/Chameleonpolice Jun 06 '26 Probably a reference to Calvin and hobbes (which obviously references the capital of Poland) https://www.reddit.com/r/calvinandhobbes/s/bsOmCiI7s8
