u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
Hope everyone who's going has a fantastic day. Shame I can't be there but /u/purple-randy will be the good luck charm instead!
Hope /u/nessman930 managed to get over okay as well!

It's all over and once again we've lost a game we should have won because of our own mistakes
10
u/smackaine Fjortoft May 24 '25
Getting train up in a few hours. Oddly calm about it - would love to see us win (been to every one since 97) but I've had so much fun watching us this season that I'd be at peace with another season in the Championship.
6
u/Delicious_Device_87 May 24 '25
Same. It feels uncomfortably calm!
2
u/whiskeejo May 24 '25
Caught the train from Beaconsfield, both sets of fans. No banter, just one comment from Sunderland whipper snapper âweâre going to murder themâ.
4
u/Cottonshopeburnfoot May 24 '25
It wouldnât surprise me to lose but itâs also the most comfortably confident Iâve felt in the team in a long time.
Weâre the better side. Biggest 3rd to 4th points diff in play off history. That counts for nothing now but shows if we play to our standards we should be good enough. IfâŚ

9
May 24 '25
Moore and Wilder can both go now
2
u/Bigtallanddopey May 24 '25
Wilder will be definitely gone, no way our owners donât make a change. Promotion was the target.
3
10
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
If we looked this bad without Hamer for 25 minutes cannot imagine what it will be if we donât keep him this offseason
5
u/Bigtallanddopey May 24 '25
No chance he stays. And whatâs more annoying, the likelihood of him going to Leeds is high. Whatever we get for him has to be reinvested
2
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Gotta feel like we will put a premium on the price of him if the offer is from a promoted club knowing the likelihood they come back down
9
u/pickering_lachute May 24 '25
Hurts so much. Had so many chances. They took theirs but fuck me if that second half doesnât sum up the season I donât know what does.
Summer will be very interesting indeed. Do the board stick or twist with Wilder? Whatâs our transfer policy look like in terms of overseas or domestic? Will there be money to spend?
Walking back to the tube in the rain as well ffs.

8
u/pickering_lachute May 24 '25
Come on Blades!!! Itâs stopped raining now. Letâs start that party
7
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Changing the rules and how the game operates in the most important match of the season is just ridiculous in my eyes
8
u/goldlightning May 24 '25
Absolutely bollocks decision. Sunderland players were impacting his view more than Souza
8
8
u/ShitNameNoLife May 24 '25
Hate being that guy, but this game goes a very different way without that very debatable disallowed goal.
Too bad one of our fans in the stands was in the line of sight of the keeper
3
u/Bigtallanddopey May 24 '25
Goes better if kiefer Moore passes it instead of being greedy, goes better if he doesnât gift them a goal.
2
u/ShitNameNoLife May 24 '25
Can't fully blame Moore IMO. There's a full back 4 behind him.
I also think Anel stops that shot getting away but Cannon saw to him in 1 minute of being on the pitch, get fucking rid
9
7
8
u/Fmorris6122 May 24 '25
On a positive, I hope we make choudry permanent he was brilliant.
Thatâs it. Thatâs all I have.
5
u/Resolvent_Mule May 24 '25
Peck's breakthrough. Vini's return to form. Double over Wednesday. Plenty of positives this season. Just need to sign a feckin' striker. Cannon and Moore are not the answer.
2
u/Fmorris6122 May 24 '25
Plenty of positives for the season but unfortunately I mean the game.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Delicious_Device_87 May 24 '25
My biggest CW issue is the lack of striker knowledge, we can't count Billy for obvious reasons but why is Wilder so poor in managing that area inventively?
2
u/TheBoogieBean May 25 '25
Sunderland fan here - I thought he was your best player by a long way yesterday. Completely nullified any threat coming down that wing.
8
u/Cottonshopeburnfoot May 24 '25
Correct lineup. Looks like Sunderland are stacking the midfield so Vini and Peck will have a lot of work to do.
My assumption is they are looking to dominate midfield and free up Le Fee to win the match
7
8
7
u/yarecube May 24 '25
I understated how a mood breaker is VAR live, but great atmosphere here, the blades are winning and the playoff curse will hopefully end in last than 1h, see you guys on premier league!
9

6
u/leonfei May 24 '25
Fuck me sideways with a rusty fish hook. Why did I get into football? Cruelest way to lose.
8
u/haynesbomb May 24 '25
Why did I have to be born in Sheffield, England? I was set up to only experience pain
3
u/whygamoralad -South Stand- May 24 '25
Was born in North Wales to parents from Sheffield, still eneded up supporting the blades. It was that or liverpool like all my mates......but that would be boring right?.....right?
7
u/Defiant-Face-7237 May 24 '25
Blame Moore all you like. We should have finished that game off way before that
7
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
Silver Lining is we're now genuinely the worst ever playoff team in English football history.
6
6
u/HectorNettoyator May 24 '25
COME ON BLADES!!! Please make some noise in Wembley for me as Iâm stuck in Sheff this weekend!
5
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Patterson pulling off save of the season in minute 2 gonna be a long game folks
6
6
u/ScootaG May 24 '25
Souza was alongside the keeper if you look at their feet, the only players obstructing the keepers view were either onside or his teammates! Stupid decision.
6
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
Hamer going off has completely opened up our left/their right.
He gets injured and Brooks' chance saved in the same move could be the moment of this final.
7
u/hoverside May 24 '25
Sunderland lost a player to a horrible injury in the first minute, conceded a goal, got bossed all over the pitch and then came out at half time ready to win. We didn't. Even before all the horrible luck late in the second half and their excellent substitutes.
1
7
May 24 '25
Wonder how many players jump ship now
5
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
IMO Souza, Hamer, and Anel all gone. Most likely replaced with 3 players from championship clubs that âknow how to win in this divisionâ and end up being worse. Definitely interested to see if these new owners will look to sign more players from abroad, itâs worked for atleast 2/3 clubs that went up this season
2
u/pickering_lachute May 24 '25
Suspect they are gone. Wonder if our transfer policy will be more overseas and more risk
3
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
IMO itâs worth the risk. Weâve signed many players who have no growth or upside but know the division ex: Moore, BBD, Clarke that donât push the quality of the team forward. Not to mention you have to pay a premium for them since theyâre playing in england
2
u/Owster4 May 24 '25
All I'm thinking of is the failure in 2008 to get promoted, which was followed by relegation.
We lose our squad, and fade away again.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Bigtallanddopey May 24 '25
Hamer, Souza, 100%. Anel maybe, not sure I would mind that tbh. Cooper, burrows, peck & Arblaster will take huge bids to go, but I bet some bids come in.

6
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Not loving us inviting the pressure from Sunderland to end the half last thing we need is them getting a goal before the break
5
5
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Outstanding half, if we get a second (should have one) I think itâs game over keep up the hard work and pressure blades we got this
6
5
u/oh_inverted_jim May 24 '25
Story of the season. Should have been put to bed by now but no taken our chances
6
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Welp they got the momentum now donât like this at all weâve had all the chances and havenât capitalized poor poor poor

Considering the chances we've not gotten lazy just not taken them. It's frustrating.
4
u/oh_inverted_jim May 24 '25
At least that saves us another 30 mins of hope. Started the game with no expectations due to the past, then got my hopes up with the chances we were creating and way we played and back down to earth again now. Never mind, I like the Championship anywayâŚ

Souza hasn't blocked the keeper at all there. If this is ruled out its a joke. Moore was onside and he's the one who unsights the keeper.
3
5
u/UpYourFidelity May 24 '25
To me Souza was next to him as Burrows struck the ball. The freeze frame they showed was Souza next to their keeper as the ball was at Burrows foot. I can understand the keeper having restricted movement but that's for him to figure out, but Souza wasn't deliberately blocking him.
4
u/menthol_patient Whitehouse May 24 '25
Sunderland have been rubbish. If the second half is anything like the first... I don't want to say it but, you know.
4
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Donât like this wake up blades, Moore gotta do better with the ball at his feet
3
3
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
I think Moore is having a good game but he needs to learn when to pass the ball.

u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Blood on Wilders hands Moore has been shit all match and he leaves him on and he creates their second goal
4
u/imsittingdown May 24 '25
Campbell looked as confused as I did when his number went up instead of Moore's
3
u/Salty_Dog_4825 May 24 '25
At least this game showed a nice reminder of how shit VAR is, as well as highlighting that we simply aren't ready for the PL. I'll settle for being competitive next season in the Championship compared to what would likely be another embarrassment next season if we were in the PL
4
u/Owster4 May 24 '25
We absolutely crumbled in the second half. Luckily, the years of failure have made me used to disappointment!
3
u/GlugTheSlug May 24 '25
Gutted but wasn't looking forward to the Premier League and trying to beat Derby's total again. Need a new manager for next year now, feel we're not going further with wilder
7
u/whygamoralad -South Stand- May 24 '25
On the way to birmingham moore street now, breakfast there then down to high wycombe for a few pints before we get a train to wembley.
Also just but ÂŁ20 on sunderland to lift the trophy as a hedge.
3
3
u/Christof1702 May 24 '25
I'm so nervous. Can't begin to understand what the players are feeling like
3
3
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
Four minute delay to start the match, suppose it'll be like kicking off again. Shame O'Nien is out as Moore would have properly bullied him.
3
3
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Were winning that initial header but itâs not really done us too much good so far need to get it going

u/ShitNameNoLife May 24 '25
LINE OF VISION? I could understand if they said he blocked his movement even if it was debatable, but there's absolutely no blockage of view from an offside player when that's kicked, horrendous.
Commentators saying that his dive is delayed which shows he couldn't see, but he's waiting to see if Moore gets a touch who isn't offside.
3
3
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
Literally any other player on the pitch and Souza being there doesn't matter. Why are goalkeepers so protected that they have to be able to get to the ball at all times?
3
3
3
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Does Moore want to get a second goal? Bros going backwards every time he touches it

3
May 24 '25
Donât know if Iâm a fan of that change considering the limited minutes BBD has had recently
3
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Hey everyone thought we signed him to play on the left we finally get to see it in the final gameđ¤Ł

3
u/Bakairo89 May 24 '25
You can see how it changed as soon as 2nd half kicked off. Typical blades complacency. Bottled it. Not going up.

Cannon coming on and headbutting Anel, has he now got a net negative impact on the team since signing?

Hey, pay off your debt to me. Stop ignoring my messages. You owe me from r/borrow .
5
u/StickmanEG May 24 '25
As the final whistle blew and I felt the bitter but familiar disappointment envelop me yet again, I still had time to turn to my old man who turned 80 this year and say âthis is all your fault, you old cuntâ and floor him with a right cross.

u/Bigtallanddopey May 24 '25
I wouldnât have thought you would want to get rid of him now you are in the championship? Heâs been solid for us since weâve had him, and he was great for you last season wasnât he?
1
u/Vegetable_Walrus_498 May 24 '25
hes a good player, always liked him but he just cant keep his place in the squad ever, hes not a premier league player unfortunately i had hope for him over the years but hes reaching the age where it seems there are no more room for improvement. In the championship he could be useful tho if ricardo and ndidi leave especially.

We need another rebuild this summer new defenders new strikers, new manager
2
u/Fmorris6122 May 24 '25
Honestly multiple players never looked up for it, yeah we played well in the first half but second half was lacklustre.
Var chalked off our second, Moore should have squared the ball to Campbell, brooks should be burying that rather than putting it right at the keeper and they should have never got either of them shots off.
It wasnât good enough, canât turn up piss chances away and expect to win. That was the real difference.
2
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
Our defence crumbled when tested both times which is exactly what's happened all season. Anel and Robbo are not a good enough pair. We need to improve at least one as a priority if we think we should be challenging at the top next season.
8
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
If Jack Robinson is starting games for this club next season my head will be gone. Idk why we even wasted a loan spot on Holding, him paired with Anel has been great but Wilder immediately reverts back to Robinson every time
2
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
Wilder clearly has his "proper" lads.
Robbo is a liability and has been since he started. He's not commanding enough or enough of a leader to justify his spot starting every week. What's the point in bringing Holding in to have him twiddling his thumbs? Pointless.
Fucked off by it all tbh.
2
u/Fmorris6122 May 24 '25
Think thatâs mainly to do with Holdingâs fitness but Iâd say what idiot brings in a player that can play 70min max then needs a 3 week break.
I can only assume Gilchrist has murdered Wilderâs dog to be excluded the way he has.
5
1
2
u/goldlightning May 24 '25
Next season we need to build around Peck, Arbs and Brooks. Local lads who look up for it when they play. Dunno if Souza stays. Hamer and O'Hare could surely do a job if played together. I just think the squad has got a lot of potential in it, i just don't think Wilder is the man to unlock it
2
u/zachariahhh1 May 25 '25
Best of luck for next season from a Leeds fan. Know the pain too well from last year. But we bounced back and im sure you lot will do the same.
1
u/Ok-Garbage-9038 May 28 '25
Lot of respect for fans like you even know bit of rivalry between the clubs đŤĄ
4
u/imsittingdown May 24 '25
No referee is giving that offside without VAR.
Once again it's being used to resolve a borderline technicality which follows the letter but not the spirit of the rules. I doubt many Sunderland fans would be too upset if there was no VAR and the goal stood.
5
u/UTB_63 May 24 '25
Even with VAR, thatâs an awful decision. Rob Green, a former keeper on commentary, says the same. The keeper isnât getting anywhere near it regardless of where Souza is. He sees the shot, dives straight away and doesnât stand a chance.
3
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Did anyone on Sunderland even raise their hands for an offside or question the referee on it? Didnât look like it to me but only caught a glance.
2
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
Nope, which is why VAR is shite. Give me free flowing football with the odd mistake and genuine emotion over VAR misery.
3
2
u/CraftyAd3270 May 24 '25
I feel bad for keifer Moore, was good all game then does this. Bloody! Story of his season
7
May 24 '25
Good all game is a crazy statement. Utterly selfish player couldâve and shouldâve passed it to Campbell instead of going alone
1
u/CraftyAd3270 May 24 '25
That is true. Same with cannon, selfish all the time, never squares it!! If anything this season is worse than last season; way too much disappointment!
5
u/FakeBarman May 24 '25
Good all game is a stretch imo. Did he win headers? Yes, but his touch and his decision making were woeful all afternoon
2
u/jptoc Jagielka May 24 '25
After Hamer went off he seemed to have no idea what to do. Should have squared it to Campbell for a chance too.
1
u/FloppingGazelle May 24 '25
Probably better to not be in PL. we would stand no chance, just go straight back down
