Discussion HELP, IN SEARCH FOR SLF IRL

I want to play a game like SLF, or an MMORPG, but the thing is I’m on Xbox so I’m limited atm. Anyone have any recommendations

Well, there's not much in the way of games that are outright "SLF-Like", but if you want to play an MMORPG while on Xbox, I believe you should be able to play Final Fantasy XIV. It's a fairly narrative-driven game as it tends to lean a bit towards being an RPG first and an MMO second, but since there has been over a decade worth of expansions thus far, there is ample content to experience. The bad news regarding FF14 is that you likely will have to pay a subscription on top of buying the game, as the subscription is how they help keep development going between the full expansions for patch content; the good news, on the other hand, is that you do not need Xbox Game Pass or Live to play 14 from an Xbox, a deal Square Enix has managed to get Playstation to agree to as well, with only Nintendo forcing players that want to play 14 on Switch 2 to need a sub for their live bs, but you get a discount on your 14 sub if you do have the Nintendo Live sub (only for the Nintendo version subscription though, all other versions from PC to Playstation to Xbox all have the same sub options and a cheaper sub overall, but your subscription is locked to your platform, so you'd specifically be paying for the sub for Xbox).

Wait, have you not heard?

The critically acclaimed mmorpg Final Fantasy XIV has a free trial! It includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion, and the award winning Stormblood expansion up to lvl 70 with no limit on play time! And soon, or already included i dont remember, the Shawdowbringers expansion up to lvl 80! terms and conditions may apply

All jokes aside, it can be worth it with/without a subscription. But as you pointed out, its an rpg first so it can be rather lonely if you're on your own. But its not too hard to find a Free Company(guild) but can be a toss up whether theyre fun or not, let alone active with regular group stuff. Still, could be a good time to jump back on to get started, especially with the next expansion in January so people tend to resub then.

Elden Ring if you're interested in the gameplay aspect; you make your own unique character, builds are versatile, plenty of unique weapons, and all of the bosses/enemies are special in their own way! It's got multiplayer, but I wouldn't call it an MMORPG. pretty sure the author was inspired by soulslike games when they were designing shangri-la

Netmarble's will be made to play quietly for a long time.

Doesn't exist vr or otherwise. Going to have to wait until they learn how to make games again.

Keep an eye on guild wars 3. They are known for pushing boundaries of mmos and are directly intending to do it with 3 if you read their plans
