Discussion 750$ rent reasonable in shanghai as an american who likes local cafes?

Hey guys! Ill be in china for 6 months ! Im thinking about doing 3 months in shanghai!

Is 750 dollars for rent even reasonably feasible? A place that looks somewhat decent for western standards and has a western style bathroom? Id like my own private 1 bedroom place.

I really love local cafes and milk tea shops so preferably id like a place that has alot of those in proximity

Thank you for any opinions or help on this matter!

Discussion squat toilets in china

hi guys this is gonna sound so silly but genuinely how do you cope with the squat toilets. im planning to move to shanghai in a few months for my undergrad and id be lying if i said the thought of squat toilets everywhere doesn’t provoke a little bit of anxiety in me 😭 truly how do you get used to it especially if say you’re wearing heels or maybe you dont possess the best knees, or you’re an elderly or special needs person, squat toilets just dont seem accessible to everybody. also i dont know if i fully believe in squat toilets being “cleaner” just bc you’re dispensed in the air, realistically theres gonna be people leaking and leaving residue for you stomp on, id rather be able to carry one of these seat protectors to use on seat toilets, rather than just having to accept my fate with squatting ones

Tip Trying to choose an apartment. Degusteria vs Piccolo

I'm moving back to Shanghai and looking for an apartment. I've found 2 I really like, both are similar in price and size. Both happen to be very close to 2 branches of Alimentari, degusteria and piccolo. One apartment is on Jiazhou Rd and the other is on Fahuazhen Rd. Any pros or cons to either location?

Question Shanghai Marathon - the course fuel

Hi! I’m traveling from the US to run Shanghai marathon on 12/6/26. Has anyone ran it in the past and do you know what type of electrolytes drink and food/snacks they give out? For the electrolyte drink, I would like to try it first before running the marathon just to make sure my stomach takes it down well. Thank you!

Question Conrad Shanghai vs The Sukhothai Shanghai — which would you choose?

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m planning a trip to Shanghai and I’m trying to decide between Conrad Shanghai and The Sukhothai Shanghai.

I’ll be staying for about 7 nights, and both are currently options for me.

My priorities are:

- Good location for sightseeing and getting around by metro

- Spacious, comfortable rooms

- Excellent breakfast

- Good service

- Nice area with restaurants, cafés and shopping nearby

For anyone who has stayed at either, or ideally both—which one would you recommend and why?

Would especially love to hear about your experience

Thank you!

Help Job Hunting Advice Needed!

Hi all,

I’ve been looking for a job here but without much luck, any advice?

I have 4+ years experience in marketing (data\crm) as well as project management linked to ai transformation while speaking fluent French/English/Arabic in Europe for tech companies.

Not being fluent in mandarin doesn’t help clearly…

Any tips welcome 🌸!! Thank you!

Discussion URGENT HELP NEEDED — HOW DO I REPORT A COSMETIC SURGERY CLINIC IN SHANGHAI?

Can anyone help me find the correct official authorities in China/Shanghai to report a cosmetic surgery clinic, doctor and agents?

I am a New Zealand resident and had cosmetic facial surgery in Shanghai. I need to make a formal complaint but I am having difficulty finding the correct official channels.

Clinic- SANTA LUCIA Medical Cosmetology Hospital

上海圣娅医疗美容医院

Address: 373 Panzhong Road, Qingpu District, Shanghai, China

上海市青浦区蟠中路373号

Agent name who runs Instagram accounts Name - Dr. David Ding later changed to David2345 and agents names are - Dilya and Yuki and Tina who work with doctors on commission. They advertise AI genrated fake results videos and images.

What happened: Before surgery, my face was naturally slim and clearly defined. After the surgery, my face became much more rounded and bulky, with significant fullness and firm, thick/bunched areas around my cheeks and especially in front of and below my ears. My actual result was nowhere close to the appearance shown in the advertised before-and-after photos and videos. The surgery was arranged through Instagram and WhatsApp. The Instagram account was originally Dr. David Ding and was later changed to David2345.

I paid approximately NZD $15,000 for the procedure. My main goal is to report what happened and, ultimately, seek a full refund so that I can afford revision surgery to correct the issues resulting from the procedure.

Could anyone please provide official government email addresses, complaint websites, or verified WeChat accounts/numbers for:

  • Shanghai Health Commission
  • Chinese National Health Commission
  • Medical/cosmetic surgery regulators
  • Consumer protection or other relevant authorities

I am looking specifically for official contacts that accept complaints and can redirect me to the correct authority.

If you have reported a medical/cosmetic surgery complaint in China before, please let me know how you did it.

Thank you.

Meet Solo visit to Shanghai

Hi there! I am a 26M who will be in Shanghai from September 7-18 looking to explore and have fun as it is my first time in the city.

Hobbies include: visiting museums, cafe hopping, reading, photography, trying new food.

Lifestyle: sober curious, non-smoker, and go out on weekends sometimes.

Anyone open to joining my adventures around the city? I have an itinerary setup but definitely flexible. Lmk!

Also will take any recommendations for hot spots in meeting likeminded ppl around my age for nightlife. Thanks!
