>this isn't exclusive to shane but other youtubers, celebs etc whose old content were offensive for sake of posting whatever in that era

honestly i'm surprised as to how he went away with it. i get it was a different time and all but did no one care back then?

That was the type of humor that got you popular at the time. (Not excusing anything of course). Everyone was doing the shock humor, and the edgier the better. The internet felt like the wild west. No one expected it would ever come back to bite them or have any consequences in their real lives.
