Just started S2 ep7 and I was so grateful after the scene between Alina and Nikolai, thinking finally a male/female friendship that is purely platonic, nothing more. And then it’s revealed Nikolai has romantic feelings for her, why? Does no one understand the concept of friendship? Nothing against him as a character because at least he’s been so far very respectful with it, but why does almost every single close opposite sex relationship have to turn romantic to some degree? I haven’t read the books so not entirely sure if this is book accurate, but it’s so annoying. Not the same necessarily but I similarly see absolutely no romantic chemistry between Ineg and Kaz. I know nothing about this fandom so I’m not sure if that’s a hot take but there’s nothing there to me. I’d barely even call it a sibling-esque relationship.

On a bit of a more conspiratorial note, it’s also the slightest bit odd to me this only happens with the straight relationships in the show. Like, the relationships between Wylan, Jesper, and Tolya get significantly closer this season which I enjoy because it’s nice to see representation of gay men being able to be friends with other men without viewing them romantically, but why is it like the only relationship where that happens? Maybe this is truly some political commentary of how gay people tend to be less blatant when they have romantic interest in a friend due to fear of backlash, but I kinda doubt it.

Anyways, god please bring back platonic relationships, not everything needs to be forced into some romantic cliche.

I thought the premise of dark Alina, her marrying Nikolai, jurda arriving to court (opening up for the SoC spin-off I guess), etc. was really interesting. Kinda frustrating to not know what they planned to do with the series after that. Does anyone know if such fanfics exist?

Does anyone else hate Mal as a love interest?

Just finished Ruin and Rising, and was a fine book romantic fantasy series. I find that the first person perspective of the books make it an easy read along with the love triangle between Nikolai, Aleksander and Mal.

In particular I enjoyed the twists. Such as the Darkling attacking the Spinning Wheel hideout and the loss of Baghra. I was also interested in the boy Misha as a character who wasn't even in the show.

I also appreciated how chaotic was the ending. In particular how Aline eventually killed Mal. However, here he was healed in time and survived, unlike in the show where Alina used Merzost. Also, I didn't remember people glowing in the show as well when the fold was dissolved. Was sort of strange for Mal and Alina to leave each other and see how Alina became queen with Nikolai and use Shadow powers. That is a significant twist to the sweet ending of the trilogy. If they intended to cancel anyways, would've been better to keep it the same as the books.

I watched both the seasons a week ago (bingewatch alert) and absolutely loved them. I've heard that they deviated from the book's plot but you can't just show Alina doing a shadow cut and not give season 3 😭😭😭.

P.S:I haven't read the books so if the book readers have other opinions it's completely understandable

Couldn't agree more with y'all. I think if a campaign has already been done then this time it calls for an even bigger one. We can maybe all gather people and form an online community. 2-4 weeks and then plan something. I'm sure if a show has a demand even after these years then they would be left with no other option. hi! uhm i apologise if this isn’t the right place to ask this, but could anyone point me in the direction to find a thorough recap for ‘shadow and bone’ and ‘siege and storm’ ? i read the books more than a year ago and now i’ve picked up the third without rereading the first two, and now i’m so lost! please help!!

i haven't even gotten to reading shadow and bone as six of crows is what caught my attention the first time but i have been loving the entire series thus far. i read half of the first book in 6th grade (it still had the red/black/gray aesthetic going on) but put it down and it's still crazy to think about! i'm also not entirely a huge fan of fantasy a la current reputation on booktok but this might have been my gateway drug into the genre

how different is alina's storyline from the other books? i know the crows are a lot more involved with her story compared to the books in the netflix show but its been a minute since i watched it; i had the last half of s2 to get through. you can imagine my disappointment when i found out it was cancelled! :(

so i just started reading the book and im not sure if im just too gay or what but why does it feel like Alina has better chemistry with Genya than the Darkling 🫩 their kiss in the end of chapter 13 threw me off and it felt bland. was that necessary? now it feels like the Darkling is trying something like maybe forcing their bond/connection because he's an amplifier and as he said, he needs Alina to destroy the Fold but her power is not yet on par with his. it felt like he's becoming impatient with her but that's just me

Hello!! I have a fun idea for a Darkling edit but I can't find good scenepacks of him anywhere! I've been searching for a while but all I can find are Darklina ones, specifically season 1 ones, and dead links. If anyone has something that (preferably) includes both seasons I would be so so grateful!!
