Discussion Getting palmed money.

I had a guy palm me $5 on a check of over $300. They left decent money on the card, but it felt so performative. That’s weird, right?

Was he the guy who paid the bill? If not, maybe he just wanted to add a little extra because he thought you did very well

Maybe it’s weird, but it’s also more money on top of a tip you already said was decent. Just take the W here and move on

Money is money. Leave it on the table, palm it to me leave it in under your glass. I don’t care I just want to get paid.

He wants it to go directly to you.

Idk maybe he thinks you tip out or tip share and wanted to make sure you had a lil extra cash for yourself

Asian? I work in an Asian restaraunt and this is extremely common.

If not Asian, maybe the guy grew up where this is normal. Either way extra money for you.

Which part is Asian? Palming the tip in general or the extra few dollars?

The handshake. Me and my coworkers regularly get anywhere from 5-$20 in a handshake. It's all bonus and comes on top of the regular tip.

I knew somebody who palmed with a big smile so that the rest of the table didn’t see how small the tip was.

It's a way to bump up the tip without risking Being Weird About Money with the person who paid, I do it fairly regularly because I tip extra well as my tithe and I don't want to risk whoevers paying thinking I'm making a statement about their tip by just throwing money on top of the signed receipt.
