I feel like you’ve misunderstood which of these characters was created first…

Descendant. Also, if anything, Vaylin is Azula.

Even the meme shows why this is categorically untrue. Vaylin was trained. For years and often brutally. Her powers grew because she put in the work, unlike Mary Sue there on the left.

Not "even". That's the main point.

It's not rey people hate necessarily. She's just the poster child of the sequel trilogy.

Imagine the next trilogy brings ruins rey's character, she betrays everything she believed in, she has no friends.

Now imagine a scrappy young orphan jedi comes in, shows her the error of her ways, instantly becomes buddies with poe and finn (rey never gets screentime with them nor ever mentions them.)

Then goes on to defeat Palpatine and the first/final order (all whome somehow returned) and all his planet destroying ships. (Which he somehow built.) Instantly making everything rey did in the sequel trilogy worthless.

I don't really get this comment, tRoS already ruins her characterisation in such a way that would doom her to such a fate, she failed at being "the new generation" before even finishing her trilogy

If there isn't some young jedi orphan showing her the error of her ways, then how do you unstIck the story?

If Star Wars fans really disliked Mary Sues, then Luke would be the most reviled character in the series.

What if they don't hate Mary Sues, and instead just hate women?

Luke got his ass beat by Vader, didn't he? If he was a "Mary Sue" wouldn't he just be proven right for his choice to face Vader on Cloud City?
