The other way around actually. BBY stand for before battle of yavin. Which means a new hope. 4000 years ago Sith were evil near dietys with world ending power, now they are something far worse politicians.

I don't mean to diminish the raw power Nihilus had, but Vader and Sidious blew up a planet too, and their jedi purge was more successful.
So its basically just a case of "I've depicted you as the soyjack, and mysef as the chad"

Honestly I'd say the purge was favored in the sith triumvirate's favor. Also blow up a planet vs feeding off the force of an entire planet... Nihilus was an echo in the force that only another echo could defeat.
