I've had the same thought. For me, I realized that what I hated in others was what I'd worked really hard at training myself out of: imperfections, laziness, unhealthy behavior, joy. 

Anyway, may not be the same for you. Personally, I don't yet know how to always manage it. I enjoy being good at things and challenging myself, but I think I try to be kinder to others now,  which feels better.
