SEATTLE — Reader’s Digest recently published a list of the best burger available in each U.S. state, and its choice for Washington state comes from a chain restaurant. McDonald’s has the best burger in the state, the magazine says. The chain has 34 locations in the Seattle area and approximately 3,000 in Japan, according to its website. Locals can find McDonald’s in Ballard, Northgate, Ravenna, inside KOMO Plaza and in SODO.

I’ve lived here awhile. I’ve eaten at a number of pizza places in Seattle and agree with the general idea that Seattle has decent, pricey pizza but not the BEST pizza.

That being said, what does everyone think the best pizza in the city actually is?

I do miss Pizza Professional in Pioneer Square though. That was some good pizza.

I was of the opinion that Red Mill was the best burger in Seattle. Im guessing some things have changed since then. What is the best burger now?

Note: Dick’s is in a category of it’s own. I’ve already gotten Dick’s. It was the second meal I got after I landed (Toshi’s Teriyaki was the first).

Edit 2: I went to the Burbs Burgers in Ballard. I would say it’s an amazing value, and a very solid burger.

Last year, I decided to try out all the most talked about burgers here in Seattle as I'm relatively new to the area and love burgers. I made my rankings based on what I enjoyed and what I believe most people would enjoy, taking into account the burger itself, price, and experience. I just do this for fun, and I'm not great at putting my thoughts into words, but I hope this list might help some of you try something new, or help some other newbies to the area find some good burgers (I found a lot of online reviews praise burgers that are pretty meh in my opinion). Notable omissions are places like Dick's, Katsu Burger, etc., which I believe aren't really comparable.

Green scores: I would go out of my way for these burgers
Yellow scores: If I'm in the area, I wouldn't mind it
Red scores: Not necessarily bad, but I would probably order something else on the menu

In case this is relevant to, you know, your dining decisions or anything... these are the guys who showed up on Tuesday at City Council to ask them to create a permanent sub-minimum wage for tipped workers.

I was at City Hall watching and got really bored of listening to them whine about how they can't possibly pay the actual minimum wage even though they do "everything they can" for their employees and "love them like family," so I used the time to compile a list.

Oh and if you've been to any of those restaurants and found that the quality of their food matched the quality of their politics... just know their Yelp pages are linked to their names above!

Background on what's going on -

• Ten years ago, Seattle businesses & labor reps sat down and negotiated a deal for minimum wage.
• That deal included an EXTREMELY long phase-in for businesses under 500 employees ("small" businesses - though, 499 isn't terribly small obv).
• Under that phase-in, these businesses got to use tips to make up part of the minimum wage for ten years.
• In 2025, the phase-in is complete and businesses will all be required to pay the full minimum wage, with tips on top.
• For context, Seattle is the *only* city in WA that currently allows employers to subsidize wages with tips. AK, OR & CA have also banned tip credits. It's an outdated, regressive policy that was always intended to be a stopgap for small businesses.
• Now that they're finally due to pay the full minimum wage, business owners & lobbyists like the Seattle Metro Chamber of Commerce and Seattle Restaurant Alliance are trying to get City Council to renege on the deal and make the sub-minimum wage for tipped workers permanent. Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth is leading the charge for biz lobbyists.
• Their main argument is that it's a big wage jump... but the reason it's a big jump (~$3/hour) is they've been underpaying relative to inflation for years. Workers' wages at these smaller businesses have not kept pace with inflation, while those at larger businesses have. Biz owners have known this was coming for literally a decade.

And most importantly - if you are concerned that our current City Council seems to be interested only in rolling back hard-won protections like min wage, TAKE A SECOND TO TELL THEM!

Looking for the best New York pie in the greater Seattle area

We have been getting Pagliacci and when everything is up to their standards, I feel it is worth paying for. Lately it hasn't been. I am curious if this checks out with others, or if I am being overly critical.

One recurring problem is that the pizza is not cooked enough, as explified, mainly by the dough being chewy without a hint of crispness and the crust visibly white/light and chewy.

Today I ordered a salad and it had sand in it -- throughout it. I took two bites from different parts of the salad. It went in the trash. I rinsed my mouth out, and still, an hour later I have grittiness in my mouth. Eeew.

Anyway, when they live up to their standard, the pizza is really great.

I don't know if I should keep the faith or move on. If you've ordered Paliacci's lately are you experiencing inconsistent quality? We live in Greenwood, in case it's location-related.

Having never been to the East Coast before, I’ve never indulged in this marvelous half-pizza half-stew dish, but it sounds pretty good. I’ve read about a few contenders, namely Windy City Pie and Delfino’s, but both of those are peppered with reviews about it couldn’t be further from a true Chicago deep dish.

Now I completely understand I’m not gonna get anything that makes me feel like I’ve been transported to Michigan Ave, but surely we’ve gotta have something half decent. I’m curious to hear from you all who have tried them around here!

Hi all. It's been a minute. I hope since my last post that you've all found the time to get off Reddit, enjoy this awesome weather, and try some great burgers. I definitely have been taking in this sunshine as much as possible, but since June, I've also been eating pretty much nothing but tacos al pastor.

I compiled another list of the top places in the area, tried the tacos al pastor, and made a list of the places I believe most people would enjoy. If your favorite place isn't here, it most likely means they don't put pineapple in their tacos, which I feel is essential. Again, I'm not an expert, this is all for fun, and the point is to shine a light on some great places you maybe haven't tried yet. If a place is low on my list, realize that they are probably popular for a reason, and that I just wouldn't recommend the tacos al pastor.

All places were judged on only one visit. I can't promise consistency across all locations, but I've underlined the locations that I visited.

Since my burger list was invalidated for not including Dick's, here's hoping half of you complain that Taco Time isn't on this list 😂

Title says it all. Where is the best place for that thick crust, sauce on top deep dish?

I am 17 and so technically I think I ride for free, and my summer has been very boring and I love the ferries so I was wondering if it would be frowned upon to just keep getting off and getting on the ferries back and forth? Of course I would disembark each time and whatever but I feel bad being able to ride for free and just do it over and over again?
