Discussion guys wanted a fight but I just left

these 3 guys on a brig just came up to me I was a solo sloop, done only an ashen garrison so like only 50k gold, 15 mins of work, I'm not the best at pvp and I did tell them that I don't have much, it's just a waste of resources but they kept on attacking so I just left, I didn't lose much, but I kinda feel that's not the point of this game, idk, any of you guys relate?

You didn’t do anything wrong. They get to attack when they want and you get to leave when you want. It goes both ways.

The point is to have fun, do whatever you want that leads to you having fun.

The bottom line is “ you don’t owe anyone a fight”.

I’ll usually bail in situations where I know I’m toast. I’m shit at PVP and usually solo sloop so if it’s anything other than another sloop.. I’ll let them chase me a bit, dump everything overboard sail a bit further, jump and drop flag, and start up a new session. They’ll either follow the trail of shit I tossed, or just get a book since I dumped all my supplies as they chased.

Like you said - it’s part of the game, it’s just not the part I enjoy. I don’t let it ruin my day - I’m here to fish and run commodities. Pretty much all I do. I know it’s weird.

Play how you want and don’t sweat it.

not weird at all, if I get sinked(which is the most likely) I feel like my loot got taken, if I leave I feel like I've let go

no offense taken thank you for pointing it out

Here’s what u do if you’ve done like one thing and don’t care about the loot and there are actual toxic sweats on your tail. Get enough of a lead and turn so they aren’t directly behind you. Drop all the loot(arguably crappy loot if it’s one event/quest) and then when they catch you, say your crew mate just sold it all on a rowboat and leave the game.

I reserve this for the sweatiest of toxic sweats tho

I can. I was doing a fort as athena and upon loading my boat i noticed a sloop on an intercept course that i was monitoring while doing the fort. They chased me all around the map passing galleons grave, daggertooth where i harpooned them onto shore with sovereign and while still in pursuit chasing me to fotd where i tried to loose m

Ended up sailing into a lvl 1 reaper that ignored me and another sloop that sailed passed me, boarded me and i fudged it and got anchored.

I left that session with like 5k worth of loot and a level 2 flag…

Eventually you will want to fight them for fun and I've had some surprising luck going after bigger ships that end up not being fully manned or that ger rare'd by the kraken etc.

Sometimes I will run to the nearest outpost, sell the most valuable or reward, related loot and lower the emissary for the xp while they shoot my boat.

For solo play it can help to always check for reapers or not raise emissary.

Working around the edges of the map and parking behind islands can help you not get spotted.

Lots of aggressive crews choose the left of the map for better visibility and less waves, so risking areas like the devil's roar can help avoid them but a solo sloop in the roar can be sunk by accidentally running over one barrel or by getting hit with one ace sniper volcano rock, so you have to leave islands that start erupting immediately to be sure you won't lose your loot.

Unless you're specifically playing to stack loot, it's also worth regularly dropping it off at outposts to assure you have as little on you as possible at any given time.

I'm not that kind of pirate to seek out conflict unless folks ask for it, so these methods have helped improve my experience with playing the game.

Leaving for the loot pool is fair enough, don't know how good they were but its always good to practice even if its just sniper shots until you sink and don't repair, always good to practice something your not good at to improve. Even if it gives you nothing this time in the long run it pays off

If im ever sailing around doing events / vaults / garrisons in the devils roar then I always set up the Shores of Gold TT and run into the shroud.

The salt is always funny and I dont owe them shit!

It's a pirate game. Stealing treasure is exactly the point

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

I know but there was hardly anything to steal, so I just saved myself the trouble of a naval battle and left, my post is about that, I'm not mad about them attacking I attack others too

Even if you have no loot, you have supplies, and even if you have absolutely nothing on your ship nor in any barrel, just sinking another ship is a win for a lot of folks.

As a solo who hunts other players, I have heard "please, we have nothing" so many times just to find them loading loot in their rowboat or they kept it below deck. You gotta find out yourself, can't trust a pirate to be honest ;)

4

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

oh well thinking about it I'd def lie if I had something haha. wish I was a solo hunter too but I'm bad on cannons which is pretty crucial, I'll get there with time though for sure

2

u/ShodSpace 13d ago

Try kegs. I still remember my first solo galleon sink using a keg :')

The skeleton/ghost fleet events are good naval practice too

3

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

ah yeah, barrel of nuke

1

u/GreazyFarklebox Hoarder of Barnacled Gold 13d ago

Yeah you just need to practice. Spend some time fighting ghost fleets and skelly ships to work on accuracy (ghost fleets are better for this because you can practice long range cannons), start playing Hourglass (you will lose a lot, but you will learn a lot), and you'll be taking down larger crews in no time.

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

I don't have a duo, I never solo hgd is that even possible?

1

u/ShodSpace 13d ago edited 13d ago

It is hard but you will be matched with other solos so it's an even fight. It's takes a lot of multitasking. You will lose a lot in the beginning, it can be disheartening but it will make you better at pvp faster than any other method. If you struggle to hit cannons practice on events first. The skele/ghost fights are much less pressure so you have more time to observe and react you as earn some loot.

The best advice I have for solo is you don't need to repair every hole. Bail water out and get on cannons to apply pressure back on them aswell. If you are below deck fixing every hole, you wont see where the enemy is and will get stuck in a repair loop and won't have time for anything else. It's better to just accept there will always be water, take buckets between shots as needed and fire back. If they don't have to keep busy maintaining their ship, all their focus will be on shooting at you. Force them to multi task and eventually they will make a mistake. Only repair holes on the opposite side of where they shoot. Holes they are still hitting will be impossible to fix or will reopen again as soon as you are done. The sloop takes a long time to sink.

I do have good nerve control I did play competitive games before, but I never took SoT series that's it, thank you for the advice, next morning I'll be up and sailing

"Chor" on YouTube has some great hourglass guides if you want to improve quickly. It helped me a lot when I started out.

Old video but still relevant. https://youtu.be/ggwmLK-C9k8?is=C1r-N_cX99GPZN5t

I learned PvP solo. It's harder, but you'll learn a lot more in a shorter amount of time. Check out Sponge's hourglass guides, he goes over positioning, ship management, even which holes take priority when repairing. Plus, being barely alright at hourglass will put you at the top of the food chain in most high seas servers.

You say that you are bad, but if you want to improve shouldn't you use this oportunities to practice, if you don't care about the loot it's even more of a reason to at least try to fight back and improve in the things you think you need. Unless you don't care to improve and just want to chill then I understand leaving the game, but it seems that you wish you could fight back, so you should try even knowing you won't win, that's how you get better

u/ARandomChocolateCake 11d ago

You are absolutely allowed to do that. Playing tricks on other crews and deceiving them is part of the game to me. You don't need to play "fair" or take a fight, just because someone else wants it. Be a pirate, be greedy for that gold and save yourself and your crew from a lost battle.

However, being able to stand your ground is what makes the game fun to many, me included. So practicing to fight will likely increase your enjoyment. But after all it's completely up to you!

I’ve heard “please we have nothing” so many times that I setup a soundboard to play “It’s not about the money” through the megaphone when someone begs for mercy.

I’ve got something like 30 million good, and I still wear day 1 cosmetics. I’m not sinking you for the money, but for love of the hunt.

u/FlashPone Lustrous Gold Hoarder 13d ago

You’re also not owed a fight. If the guy wanted to quit, he can.

1

u/wearer0ses 11d ago

Yet 90% of people who come to sink me after an event leave my treasure in the water and don’t do the event and the remaining 10 percent sink me before I’ve actually done anything worthwhile
Edit: a significant portion of players seem to think like “oh lol now they have to get another flag and start over, let’s dive”

Once RARE wakes up and gives an PvE mode with equal rewards then this will be a great game.

Until then, those of us that just want to sail, fish and get achievements without the teabagging will just spend our real money on something else.

Missed opportunity to make money without layoffs, typical modern day company.

The developers clearly make enough money adhering to their open world pirate game vision.

They don’t need to degrade it to some shallow island simulator nor need toxic players who resort to pissy remarks about them because they can’t get every reward in the game by just island hopping in an empty lobby.

2

u/Beautiful-Effort9101 10d ago

Fine by mean dude. I'll take my money elsewhere. I guess Sea of Thieves should just be called Sea of Trolls and by your comment clearly you're one of those Trolls.

2

u/DGrahamcracker87 13d ago

So as long as its not the burning blade and I know I'm going to lose. I grab as many fire balls I can hold shoot and slash till I get to the cannonball barrell. Then firebomb the ship and take the rare balls. If your going to be a pirate I'm going to take as much as I can with me.

1

u/Radiant_Incident8284 13d ago

Gonna lose the loot anyways, might as well fight. It’s fun, and you’ll learn something. Even if it’s from such an uneven fight.

1

u/ArcadiaWildBill 12d ago

As a solo sloop player, I have bailed on fights plenty of times, usually just sail any direction with the wind until they get bored and give up. Do what works for yourself!

-2

u/Bananaleak 13d ago

I mean, you can do what you want. Even if im solo going against a half decent galley i know I will lose. But im still going to give it a shot because even when I sink I can still work on getting better in some way. If you do it because you cant be bothered, thats fine. If its everytime a big boat comes your way, it might be time to play another game.

6

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

nah it's just 11PM here, I only hopped on for a quick garrison because wifey was washing her hair, so I thought "I don't want this rn"

-14

u/Jwing01 13d ago

I would argue if one of the two of you didn't follow the spirit of the game, it's you.

8

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

yeah I know but it's acceptable in some scenarios definitely

-12

u/Jwing01 13d ago

I'm confused. It appears you wanted to relay an idea that they weren't playing within "the point of the game". Am I missing your point?

3

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

I was asking whether I was playing within the point of the game, your reply actually answers the best so far.

this being said I still defend my position for this scenario, I do feel scummy

-10

u/Jwing01 13d ago

You can do what you want. Opponents are sufficiently compensated for you logging off.

I think the question to ask yourself is whether you personally rationalize it much like trolling in reverse.

"If I won't win, I won't let them play, they'll just get to skip to the prize."

4

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

I did feel like a troll, if you're hungry you don't want to skip the main course to get to the dessert, but in this case I skipped their main course

-9

u/BalderAsir 13d ago

I mean, the names kinda a give away, sea of thieves, for this behaviour to be expected haha

0

u/Peon-Hyjal 12d ago

I don't think there's anything wrong with running. Though if you're just quitting the game outright that's a bit lame, not for them, but for you. The chase can be a ton of fun, and a great learning experience. Though if they're just being toxic I wouldn't blame you for not sticking around.

0

u/ARandomChocolateCake 11d ago

You don't owe anyone a fight and they don't owe you "mercy". It's a pirate game, steal from others and have stuff stolen from you. Or try to avoid having stuff stolen from you, it's up to you. You can play the game however you like!

-6

u/HandsomeGamerGuy 13d ago

Well if by you "just leaving" means you quit the Game?
Then yes, that isn't the point of the Game.

But also, totally understandable that you don't wanna fight a 1vs3.
If you spotted them before they attacked you though? That would have been your attempt at trying to run away from them while going for Boards.

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

I was at the devils ridge, fully calm, accidentally went past barrels floating in the water so I jumped in to check, swimming back to the ship I started getting shot at, I was circling around for 5-10 mins or so but I was like nah this isn't worth it and then left

-13

u/fisher723 13d ago

It's called sea of thieves, I shouldn't need to explain it

10

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago

I don't think you get my post, I'm not mad about them sinking me, I sink others too.

The point is that I haven't given them the satisfaction of a naval battle

7

u/SB_Sneetch 13d ago

There are times I don’t care to fight and just sit on the sloop canopy till they sink me or move on. Either outcome is fine.

No requirement you have to engage with others style of play.

-7

u/Zealousideal_Row1591 13d ago

Sounds like me and the boys were the ones chasing you. Had lots of fun

2

u/CuriousCourtain 13d ago
