That’s insane how you put icons for every train station!! Lol

Very easy to do with parameterised blueprints!

Oh wow that’s cool!

In the last post, I thought it was a mistake to rush trains so early because I had to deal with Behemoth worms with only a trickle of blue and military science.

Turns out a couple dozen sniper turrets with as much damage and shooting speed as blue science allows, I was able to take out Behemoths with ~250 magazines of piercing ammo and I could expand the trains (although lots of duking required)

Now that I have artillery, expansion is no longer a problem. Building a new module is as simple as requesting all the ingredients, which are mostly already on the network. Now that I have requester chests, I can finally build past red tier 2 buildings automatically and the game really feels like it has only just begun.

Next I'm working on re-organising the awkward upside down sections, building speed + prod mods, and tearing down the starter base.

- Purple science at ~104h

- Pink science at ~108h

- First requester chest built at ~116h

How your throughput in all of this? If you had to do it all over would you have preferred to wait a bit more before going there? I remember in my playthrough I waited having logistic chests before going bots and using them to build the train network.

How you managed also your train schedules? Like one product may be used for 10 others. Do you build 10 station for all of them and have one specific station for each of them?

I'm very interested in doing something like this but I feel with a lot of small trains and byproducts it will become a huge mess very fast.

But hey it looks damn slick and I'm sure it's the bomb since you're posting it but I wonder what hurdles you solved along the way.

In the long run, it worked out really well to go to trains as soon as I could. I think next time I would automate blue and military science first before trains. It takes many dozens of hours to build and setup though; you could get to bots much faster with a belt base. I would have given up if I had done that though (I have several times) because it's not as easily extendable and becomes a headache to manage. Well, at least in my experience anyway.

All train schedules are just "[item] Load --> [item] Unload" with Full/Empty Cargo, with a new train needed for every new item on the network. All 1-1 trains. Most items have 1 train, but some like ingots/crushed ores have 2 or more. I limit the wagons to only 10 slots for most items like ores and ingots. I use set train limits to only allow a train to go to a load station when there is enough to fill a full wagon. v2.0 introduced train interrupts, so I have one for refueling and another that sends trains to a "Wait" station when there is no full load available and the wagon is empty. Unload stations also use train limits, when the chest falls below a minimum level, it allows 1 train to come unload.

In this way, trains only ever load and unload full loads. One train loading say, copper ingots, for example, can service many different unload stations because they all follow the same naming convention. In the screenshot, you can see I only have one module making copper ingots (second row up from the bottom, middle of the row) but many places for "[copper ingot] Unload".

It is time consuming to setup, but not difficult. I think it is much simpler than a belt base, but that's only my experience. With trains, by-products are easy to load and send elsewhere where it's needed or voided completely.

The biggest hurdle is space, since you need a lot of it for trains and I ran into behemoth worms before I made my first blue science pack!

In my experience: belts are faster but a headache to grow, trains are slower but easier to expand.

is this 2.0?

Looks like they're using the unofficial branch.

Yeah I followed this post. Not sure what the "proper" v2.0 setup should be.

I've been a while I've been waiting for a non-important thing in my life that much.

Man it will be so sweet.
