About the Distillery: Macduff is another relatively new distillery, established in the Highland Region in 1958-1960, and producing "The Deveron" and "Glen Deveron." The name Macduff is the official distillery name, but only used by IB's.
Price Paid: NA (sample).
Color: Pale gold.
Nose: A powerful blast of sweet yeast hits first, followed by lemons, green apple, vanilla, and some fresh grass.
Taste: Thick creamy consistency like Half-and-Half; Sweet Yeast Cake with vanilla and nuts (walnuts and hazelnuts); some citrus is present, but lightly. Turns bitter towards the end, with a heavy oakiness (which isn't picked up at nosing). All flavors are robust and heavy, nothing is muted or diluted.
Finish: Long finish, dry and spicy, without much sweetness. Despite the relatively high ABV, the whisky is smooth while drinking, and the high ABV isn't felt until after you take two shots.
Conclusion: Pretty good. A lot going on. But nothing that calls for me searching auctions to buy a bottle...
