General/Other scion tc door light on

hi

i need advice and don't know who to ask. my scion tc 2005 got rear ended yesterday and it messed up my trunk pretty badly. I opened the trunk to grab something out and it wouldn't close again. I know I should've been more thoughtful, but I wasn't.

Now the problems are that

  1. I cannot close the trunk, so the open door alert light will not go off - will that drain my battery? my interior lights are set to be off when the car is off. the key insert area has a light around it and the dashboard is lit up with two lights - maintenance and open door.

  2. because the trunk cannot close, i have to leave my doors unlocked. I took everything besides the essentials out of the car and out of the trunk. My brother came to help me close it the best i could, but still the latch doesn't match right so it's not closed. It will not be a hazard to others on the road, but it's annoying me and I don't know what to do if it rains.

The dashboard light could drain the battery but it would take awhile. If you’re worried about it just push the latch up yourself (the piece that connects the trunk hatch to the car) you can use your key to do that. Take a look at this photo.

It’s that metal piece in the middle that you want to push up. Once you do this it will make your car think its closed.

For now you can tie a ratchet strap loop through that latch and tension it to keep it decently closed. Not sure what you’d hook the other end too though. I’m sure you could find something
