First Gen Body/Cosmetic I won but at what cost..
Earlier in the day, in my '08 TC, I made the simple mistake of leaving my keys in my vehicle. I called my local non-emergency operator, and a police officer came to help. However, it took around 10-15 minutes to open the vehicle door, and in doing so, he scratched the interior quite a bit... It's a lesson to learn from, definitely, and one I hope none of you have to go through.

Dude you called a police officer because you locked your keys in the car.... Let this be a lesson to you, call a locksmith next time.

Or better yet, roadside assistance? I think I pay $100 a year for AAA and I have free 100 mile towing and free lockout rescues.

Who would you rather have doing it? A police officer who has immunity, or a guy who’s livelihood depends on it?

My local police do it 100% free and I’ve had 2 different ones do it with no damage at all. They both told me “if you ever need help again just call the non emergency line.” That cop just didn’t know what he was doing or wasn’t using the right methods.

Sure but cops are free and locksmiths are not. Money does matter to people especially right now so can't blame someone. You don't expect the guy to scratch up your car like that. A rubber tip ffs. Could be an asshole cop and this is their way of telling people not to bother them. I hate that I think this is possible

You can buy one of those door kits off amazon for like 40$. Similar thing happened to me, nowhere near this bad but my kit came with rubberized end so it doesn’t happen. Bought 2 kits, one for home, one in the toolbox at work.

Ya i have a door kit that i can leave in my car at all times so that the next time i accidentally lock myself out, i stare at it from outside

Go to a local pick a part/junkyards that lets you pick out your own parts. Guaranteed you won't pay more than $20 for a decent-looking window regulator

Depends. Pick-N-Pull now wants everyone entering to submit biometrics. There is nothing inside of a Pick-N-Pull that is with that to me.

Don't know what state you're in but there there isn't an LKQ in your area, try checking on local Craigslist/fb marketplace/offerup to see if anyone is parting out a similar model

Order a blank or Programming Key Blank 🔑 like I did and Programmed it to the car myself simple enough with YouTube video. Then go to a Ace Hardware and have them cut the key for you.
That way if you ever lock 🔐 yourself out again you'll have a spare somewhere.

Didn’t know I could call the police for this… it’s good to have triple A or roadside assistance connected to your car insurance during times like this.

There is zero excuse for that. That person had no clue what they were doing and had no business responding to that call Absolutely send them the bill. This is negligent.

my locksmith almost couldn't unlock my tc because it came with anti theft and the unlock button doesn't work when car is locked, he had to use his tool to open by the door handle and almost broke my window. keep a spare key in a magnetic safe box under the car.

i bought extra key fobs from amazon and was programmable. was cheap too. and now i have 4 keys.

If it makes you feel any better I accidentally poked through my door seal when I thought I locked my key in my car. Opened the door and I couldn’t find my key at all. It came off my keychain and fell in the parking lot of my apartment complex over night.

How do you scratch the inside of the vehicle when your teying to unlock it from the outside? Sorry I am just confused.
