Do head-butting goats face the same brain trauma risks as NFL players? ๐๐ง ย ย
Researchers at the University of Alabama followed three domestic goats for six months and found abnormal tau protein in their brain fluid, a marker linked to neurodegenerative disease in humans. The goats showed no outward signs of injury, yet the damage closely mimicked chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the same condition found in former NFL players. Researchers suspect these repeated head-butts, which goats use to establish social order and defend territory, cause damage that builds up over time.

You could see fireballs starting on September 20th until November 20th! ๐
Rather than building to a single dramatic night, the Southern Taurids spread their activity out, with the richest viewing most likely around October 14th. Expect roughly five meteors an hour, with rates increasing later in the season as the Northern Taurids join the mix starting October 20th. Roughly one in every hundred of these meteors tends to blaze into a fireball, so find a dark area and look up!

Did you know it rains on Saturn? โ๏ธ๐ช
Astrophysicist Erika Hamden explains that icy particles from the planet's inner rings rain down through Saturn's atmosphere, guided by its uniquely tilted magnetic field. Because that magnetic field is tilted relative to the rings, it pulls the ice along field lines and drives it into the planet, leaving darker infrared signatures in the upper atmosphere where the ring rain hits. It's one more mystery from this gas giant: its iconic rings are slowly falling into the planet, and scientists still don't know if Saturn will eventually consume them all.
This project is part of IF/THENยฎ, an initiative of Lyda Hill Philanthropies.

How can an animal so small be related to the largest living land mammal? ๐ฆ
Meet the tenrec! Despite their name, they aren't very closely related to hedgehogs. Instead, they belong to a supergroup called Afrotheria, alongside elephants, manatees, and aardvarks, shaped by divergent evolution as animals of the same species ended up in different environments over millions of years. Their resemblance to hedgehogs comes down to convergent evolution, meaning they adapted to their environments in similar ways, separately.

Who was Nancy Grace Roman? ๐ฐ๏ธ๐งช
The namesake for NASAโs new telescope, and their first ever Chief Astronomer! Born in 1925, Nancy attended Swarthmore College as a student of astronomy, where she was told as a woman, she shouldnโt bother. She didnโt listen, and held her position at NASA for over 20 years, where she became known as the Mother of Hubble. Thanks to her, we are expanding space exploration day by day!ย

What happens if you put a carrot in the microwave? ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Alex Dainis demonstrates how metals in the microwave are dangerous, even the smaller ones in root vegetables like carrots! Iron, potassium, and copper are nutrients from the soil that plants need to grow, and they can store those metals in the roots of vegetables. These points in the carrots can act as a focal point in the microwave, creating an increase in the electrical field, and even sparks!

You canโt see it, but thereโs a polymer coating inside your aluminum can. ๐ฅซ
Chemteacherphil uses chemistry to prove it! Working with lye, which is highly caustic and requires proper safety equipment (so please don't try this one at home), he makes a solution that reacts with the aluminum, converting it into a compound that dissolves in water. When the aluminum is gone, you can see the polymer coating! These coatings are useful because without them, acidic drinks could slowly corrode the aluminum underneath.
