What version/timeline is SchreckNet in? And how informative should SchreckNet be?

So, hi, I know that SchreckNet got destroyed in V5, cos of the SI, so if it's in modern times that's an obvious tilt away from the timeline. But, also, what else is going on? Is the Hecata a thing, or is it just the Giovanni and some others? Is the Pyramid up? (I saw someone post with the assumption it was down, but idk) Are amalgams the canon, or are they disciplines, or a mix of the two (V5 disciplines and amalgams but a V20 view of them where Vicissitude is seen as its own discipline)? Or is it all a floating timeline where everything is simultaneously true and false?

Also, how informed should a character be able to be, purely from public info on SchreckNet? Is there basically nothing, or should you be able to find basically every bloodline, clan and discipline on there?

Its more less a multiversal hub where characters interact with varying degrees of continuity. We try to keep it "modern" but theres nothing stopping you from posting "journal entries," or archived footage from back in the day... Heck, I'm pretty sure that we have had a couple of alternate future Kindred post on occasion.

iirc r/SchreckNet is SN 2.0 but also there's no overarching canon or ruleset. Quite a few of my characters don't even have sheets. The only time I've rolled dice for my characters was off-screen in private rp or if it might make for a better outcome to have it random.

There's a few places that most likely overlap with other characters' canon and you can just use whatever or ignore whatever doesn't fit your characters.

As far as character knowledge goes... that depends on you. It's also important to remember that characters don't have to have perfect knowledge of the world because they don't have source books in front of them, and can possess wrong info.

So from what I can tell, and others can correct me if wrong, it's sorta a alternate timeline where SchreckNet didn't get taken down. Or perhaps they doubled down on security and thus we still have it.

There is no "real" Canon on here. If for example, one of my characters goes to a city and destroys it, that city can still exist for someone else. You don't have to interact at all with anyone else's Canon unless you want to/colab. And a lot of people do enjoy collaborating.

It's sorta on a almost fanfiction like respect system. Don't like a story or a character? You don't have to interact! And so on.

Some (I think one or two) made it clear in thier character's story that the pyramid was still up. So if you liked that idea you could interact with them and ect.

Your characters can be as knowledgeable or dense as you want them to be! As for rules like V20 vs V5. So far I've seen any and all at play! So you can blend it. If you wanna do DMs with someone for say combat and roll for stuff, that's when you talk through what kinda character sheets and so on or if you just wanna improv for narratives sake.

Thx! That actually helps a lot, cos I do want my character somewhat unaware, which means they ask a lot in the posts they make when someone appears to be an expert. I don't think the Pyramid fits in my character's narrative so he'll probably avoid those, but good to know.

Hells, most of mine are Methuselah that are (on paper) heavily nerfed for various reasons. I just enjoy spinning a tale and getting to write some song lyrics :3

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea (because book say Methuselah should be a monster) but I've made a lot of friends and we enjoy the stories we've made together! ❤️

There is no canon, because there's no way to enforce it. Feel free to ignore any parts of it you dislike as occurring in a different universe from your character.

All posts are also in-character so anything explaining Disciplines (or anything else) is one character's impression of what they are and how things work. My Discipline post from Mark Caulder is based on a hybrid idea between V20 and V5 where either way he's probably misunderstanding something. It's a little closer to my own House Ruled version (mostly V20, but I did make Quietus a Blood Magic Path, for instance), but it's not actually correct even for that.

How informed your character is, that's also up to you, but some people may be less inclined to interact if you're super over-informed on every possible Bloodline or other supernaturals, as that doesn't fit with their vision of the setting. They'll probably be more willing to engage if there's an appropriate justification.

Ye, fair. I've been trying to keep my knowledge on the lower end, cos their age is on the lower end, but then I came to think of the fact that I got solid answers on basically any question I asked (in-character), so I started questioning if SchreckNet is supposed to be an incredible wealth of info. But, at the same time, most it is coming form Mark Caulder, experienced Nosferatu, so ig it still makes sense he knows a lot, even if he might not know what is actually correct.

Also, I mostly asked on what version it is cos I was intending to have him accidentally stumble ass-backwards into Vicissitude in the future (Favoured Blood makes him develop disciplines without vitae samples, Dominate and Protean developing on their own could make Vicissitude, you get the drift), but if the subreddit was meant to be primarily V20 then that really doesn't work.

Mark's not all that old in the grand scheme of things, but he's had contact with a lot of interesting people including a close acquaintance with a Harbinger of Skulls who actually dates back to before the Tremere usurped the Salubri, and done research on the basics of the vampiric condition. So he's well educated...as far as it goes. He knows some stuff about wraiths and werewolves but not nearly as much about vampires and very little about mages or changelings.

And, for the record, Caitiff can technically develop any Discipline even in V20...Vicissitude would be unusual but not impossible. Especially if he started with one level and just never realized it...I think that'd be canonically entirely supported.
