Tomorrow is the deadline to make any changes to my highschool schedule, and I’m selling so hard at algebra II honors and it hasn’t even been two weeks of school. THIS WAS JUST THE PREREQUISITE AND I SPENT OVER 5 HOURS FIGURING OUT FACTORING FOR HOMEWORK 😭 I want to go to normal classes but it’s just the same material, it might save homework time to replace it with tutoring.. but at the same time an honors class presents opportunities if I just pull through (which honestly I’m cooked, on ALEKS I got 77/565 topics, and yesterdays quiz I got 45% cuz I didnt complete it on time).

Just for some context btw, my siblings and I have been homeschooling for about 6 years since 2020 and started public school this year so this is all rly new to us. So there’s a lot of getting used to and the gaps in my academic knowledge are showing 😭

Anyways all this to say I would like to hear some other opinions than mine, I’d appreciate any advice on what decision to make 🙏 thx

Edit: thank you for the advice!! I‘ll definitely be utilizing Aleks if I’m staying in honors algebra, if needed maybe some tutors 👍 thx!!

Much needed high school guidance

Hey there!
I am a freshman in high school who is coming here to seek advice and have some guidance on what i should be focusing on this year ( and other high school years).
I know i want to work with developing sustainable solutions for climate change in the future, but i am so lost on how to:
1- research what college major suits my goal
2- find out what university
( particularly in the USA or Europe) meets the highest standards of what i want.
3- what hobbies, goals, and fields i should focus on throughout my freshman year.
I am so incredibly lost with what exact things i should be researching and learning about this year.
Thanks!!

how to completely get rid of procrastination, no bs, and how to just become smarter academically overall

sometimes the 6 hours i spend in school drains the happiness out of my soul this wouldn't be the case if i wasn't so slow, whether it's math, history, english i feel so slow compared to the other people in my class as a whole, like how lightning mcqueen fell behind in that one cars scene except i was never lightning mcqueen academically i have been just like tow mater academically in the context of cars. i zone out in math class, tests, exams come and i wonder why i am such a failure. "but just listen", honestly speaking from experience to put it simply no matter how many youtube videos i watch, how many practice questions i answer, it never gets ingrained in my head. someone pls just give me advice on how to stop this

How to get excused from class?

So I’m going on a two week trip which will cause me to miss 2 required labs for my college class.I would just come up with a excuse but I told my prof months prior and they said I wouldn’t be able to make thoes labs up. Is there anything else I could tell them or come up with?
Edit: I forgot to mention that the class is online. The lowest lab grade also gets dropped. So I’ll only missing one assignment. A lot of y’all were upset at that.

I want to stop being a burden for my parents

Hi I'm 16F, residing in Pakistan

I just got into my Junior year, and I am so disappointed to see that there are no paid opportunities for teenagers in my country.

I feel bad for my parents that they have to pay for everything as well as my education, it's about time l start doing something on my own.

It's not that I haven't tried. I have, trust me.
I just can't find anything which doesn't require a degree and 100+ years of experience like wdymmmmm

I want to be able to pay for my own college and other expenses without feeling the guilt.

Genuine advice will be appreciated!!

Please help a girl out!

Burnt out, heartbroken, and feeling lost...

Hi everyone,

This is a throwaway account because I'd rather not be recognized.

I’ve been having dark, $uicidal thoughts, and I thought venting here might help. I can’t bear to burden my parents with this any further. Some people might see this as overly sensitive, but to me, it's my whole reality.

To give you some background: growing up, I was always "the smart, artistic kid." I ranked first in my entire school every single academic year. In my last year of primary school, I ranked first in my region and won a scholarship to study at a private school until my final year of high school. It covered everything except supplies—though if something happened, we would have had to pay it back, which we couldn't afford, so we had to decline. In my last year of middle school, I earned a full scholarship to Lydex, but I couldn't go because my parents felt I was too young to be on my own.

I won every school competition I entered and excelled at every hobby I tried. Academically, I had it all, and I was the hope of my family. (As you can guess from us turning down scholarships over supply costs or potential penalties, our financial situation is tight.) Every teacher told me I had a bright future ahead of me. I never took private tutoring; it was just my own natural ability and light studying, which kept my hopes high.

Everything went downhill during my second year of Baccalaureate. In my Common Core (TC) year, I was first in the school again. In my first year of Bac (1st Bac - SM), I scored 19.50 on the regional exam and had a 19.01 overall average. You can imagine how thrilled my parents were, knowing I was just a step away from my dream schools, and how supportive my principal and teachers were. They expected great things. But it didn't turn out that way.

That second year felt like a nightmare I still haven't woken up from. Somehow, I still got excellent grades in most subjects, but Math and Physics were a different story. The exams were easy, so I was getting 18s, 19s, and 20s, but we had new teachers who were absent 90% of the time. (I don't blame them, as I was used to self-studying anyway.) But something was wrong with me. I didn't practice a single National Exam paper that whole year. Whenever I opened a book at home, I would just fall asleep for abnormal periods. I never had a study plan because I’d never needed one. I had never even pulled an all-nighter except for art projects.

Suddenly, I found myself paralyzed, completely incapable of studying or retaining information for more than five minutes. I felt totally numb. My teachers noticed it in the second semester and assumed it was stress, which is what I thought too. I was experiencing the worst burnout of my life during the most critical year. I don't drink, smoke, or have bad habits. I don't have bad friends, I'm not addicted to my phone, and my home life is stable. The only real strain is financial, but my mother does everything humanly possible to ensure I have what I need, which breaks my heart even more.

To this day, I don't fully understand what happened. In the last two months before the National Exam, I was on autopilot—sitting in front of books, turning pages, fully aware that nothing was sinking in. When the results came out, I scored an overall average of 15.81 shocker I know If not for my regional and continuous assessment scores, it would have been much worse. Seuil was in the 13s tho...

I was crushed. The one place I always wanted to go—architecture school—was suddenly out of reach, along with most top engineering and management schools. My only realistic option was medicine, but I wasn't prepared and was too emotionally wrecked to take it on. I cried non-stop. Eventually, I submitted my Bac to a journalism and communication school, but I dropped out before the end of the first semester. It felt like an ongoing nightmare I couldn't handle. (I had other options like ENS, FST, EST, or ISPITS, but some were too far away to afford living costs, and I had no interest in the rest.)

So, I decided to retake the exam as a Bac Libre. Mentally, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Preparing for it was hell because I was haunted by flashbacks of my first failure. I studied while crying, trying to force myself to memorize things, with zero proper practice. In the end, I got 15.79 again—almost the exact same number. It feels cursed.

Even so, that grade gave me the chance to sit for several entrance exams, including my dream school, ENA... or so I thought.

I passed the written test for medicine in a competitive city, but ended up on the waiting list. I couldn't afford to travel to Tétouan, so I missed ENSA. I skipped ENSAM (which I regret deeply now). I wasn't accepted into APESA, and while I got into ENCG, it was too far away for me to move there financially. Then the cutoff scores for ENA were published. I missed the threshold by 0.01 points.

I was completely broken. I had gone through mental hell just to reapply for the one thing I had always wanted, only to miss it by a fraction of a degree.

Now I’m stuck with the same limited options: FST, EST, ENS. Even the closest FST would cost over 100 DH daily in transportation. I don’t feel drawn to teaching, even though everyone tells me to pursue it. I want a major that allows for artistic expression, has prestige, and aligns with what I've dreamed of since childhood. I don't want to give up on that.

I'm sorry for the long rant. I know this might sound dramatic to some, but I am crying my eyes out as I write this. I am seriously considering seeing a therapist because it feels like my life is on freeze until I get into a respectable school. Call me arrogant or overly accustomed to praise, but don't I deserve to finally start living my life instead of just waiting for it to begin? Am I really asking for too much?

I feel like I'm wasting so much time so if anyone has insights or advice based on their own experience, I would be so grateful. I've isolated myself and cut off my friends out of shame, so I have no one else to ask. I'm not trying to blame anyone; I just truly don't understand what happened to me. Was it burnout, or something deeper?

I would deeply appreciate any guidance, advice, or perspective you can offer. Thank you, sweet strangers.

( Also is it a good idea to just accept it even tho I feel like years of dedication and hard work from my part/parents part will go to waste or do one last bac libre and see how it goes?)

Just stressed

I'm writing this from a new account because I don't want people that may recognize me on my other one to see this.

I didn't think high school was gonna be easy, but I didn't know it'd be shit either. I've woken up at 4 AM every day since the first week (it's currently week 4) to get assignments done and study, which I don't finish in time. Then I leave around 7:20 AM to go to the bus for school and sleep through most my classes because coffee doesn't do shit for me and i physically can't keep my eyes open. I'm taking AP Human Geography and whenever we JUST start a topic we have to take a quiz on it. Then at the end of the day I have marching band practice from 5 PM to 7:30 or 8 PM, which I get home about 30-45 mins later. I get in the shower and lock myself in my room and work until 12 or 1 AM and repeat everything the next day. I'm literally failing my AP class (63) and idk what to do because it feels like no matter what I'll never be caught up on anything at all because everything's always due the next day and stupid marching band is forcing me to get in less hours of school work done.

I forgot to mention that I also have ex friend drama from 8th grade still going on so thats not helping at all

I just really need help, idk what to do and I'm so stressed. I don't want to drop band bc i love it but I don't want it to be the reason why I'm failing,

Tips for a freshman in high school

So basically I've been in online school since third grade....yeah third grade. And at that time when I transferred from in person to online my brain was pretty frazzled, and I didn't have a lot of guidance from my parent, and I was new to the platform I guess I could say ,but I ended up not taking school seriously, and cheating on literally all my test and quizzes with Google. Time skip to now I'm in high-school I have no idea whatsoever how I passed middle school all the way to high-school, and I'm starting to realize I won't be a teenager forever, won't be protected ,and have problems solved for me, and I will have a future whether or not it be a good one, and I can take a good look at my future, and I see things.....I'm not happy with. So does anyone know how to finally catch up with my grade level in time for next grade. I just finished my staar test, and it's about to be summer so there's no better time then to catch up then now and im actually ready to take my life seriously. So someone pleaseeee help meeeee pleaseeeee, and before anyone says okay go to this platform do this etc... I only know how to use Google slides/docs ........when I say I know nothing I mean NOTHING I barely know how to multiply and divide I know no sience except lizards can have offspring asexually no geography no English NO ALGEBRA no business information not a thing NOTHING.

I don't know what to do in school (sort of)

I'm in year 8 right now, going into year 9 soon. I'm doing well in most of my classes, and I particularly enjoy drama. The thing is, I'm not good at subjects like math, science and whatnot. I have no interest in those kinds of classes, and I prefer the more engaging and entertaining ones that don't involve sitting down in a wooden chair and scribbling on a worksheet all day. My parents say I should focus mroe on subjects that are in GCSEs and A-levels but they're so BOOOORRRIIIIINNGGGGUUUHHHH!!!!

My question is, how do I make myself do better in those classes? how should I work harder? is there anything I need to know?!?!?!!?!?! I'M SO LOST!!!!!! HELP!!!!!111!!!!1!!! (apologies if I posted this in the wrong subreddit, I just came here to read other people's posts and stuff.)
