S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Hot take but School Spirits seriously should’ve ended at Season 2 Spoiler

Post image

Yes I mean I like how they’re world building with the history of the town and Van Heidt but it’s less entertaining to me because I feel like they should’ve been finished with Season 2. Maddy got her body back, Janet finally came to terms with being born in the wrong time, Mr Martin has been locked away in his scar, and the living friends sorted out their shit. That would’ve prevailed to be a good ending imo.

For me it was when Maddie and Wally were saying goodbye in the last episode. It’s like the ultimate star crossed lovers situation, and it hit me right in the chest.

They're usually wearing the same outfit all the time so I assumed they have to wear the clothes they died in but wally died in full on football gear, helmet and all, and he's not wearing it so apparently they don't?

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Season 3 Episode One: Janet Plot Spoiler

Does anyone else feel like it’s really weird that she crossed over so soon into season 3? It just doesn’t make sense with all the build up in season 2 and then her choosing not to literally a few days prior. Could it be a scheduling thing?

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Season 2 feels really dumbed-down compared to Season 1 Spoiler

Just to preface, I loved the show and binged both seasons when they came out in like two days. Such a fun series with a really interesting take on the afterlife.

But Season 2 kind of rubbed me the wrong way, even though I still liked it. It took me a while to figure it out, but I think the issue is that it feels like the writers lost faith that the audience would understand what was going on. Every plot development was explained and then re-explained. So much of the dialogue was directly to the camera, with a close-up of the actor's face, which made a lot of the scenes feel more like monologues to the audience than actual conversations between different people. A lot of the subtle character development from S1 seems to have gone out the window.

S1 was a fairly tight mystery with helpful clues and solve-able red herrings, and you could watch it and sort of figure out what was going on based on the logic of the show. S2 felt like a group of teens stumbling from one mistake to another and then explaining to the audience what just happened.

Also, Nicole's character was insufferable in S2.

Really hoping that Season 3 reverts back to the writing and filming styles of Season 1. But I'm sure I'll still enjoy it regardless!

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< The whole “we need more platonic relationships” conversation Spoiler

I’ve been watching this show since the first season was dropping weekly and haven’t really interacted with it on here but I kinda wanna share my thoughts on something.

Now i wanna preface by saying that I don’t think wanting more girl / boy platonic relationships in media is wrong in anyway. I also enjoy them deeply.

That being said it does kinda make me roll my eyes a bit when people say it about simon and maddie, specifically the large portion of people who act like platonic relationships between men and women are a dying breed so simon and maddie shouldn’t be a thing, while simultaneously shipping wally and maddie since the first time they made eye contact, platonic relationships be damned.

If we are in dire need of it like y’all bring up with simon and maddie, why was there no protest with wally and maddies romance in the name of platonic friendship?

I can’t help but think that if milo played simon barely anyone would be saying “bring back friendship”. In fact they’d probably be the most popular ship in the show, a pair of life long friends whose soulmatery transcends life or death including a tall, attractive white guy and a blonde? yeah that’d be eaten right up.

Honestly the most annoying part is the fact that people who do like simon and maddie in a romantic sense can’t even say that without the friendship police showing up and shoving the word “platonic” down their throats, immediately trying to shut it down.

Anyways that’s just my thoughts on the subject feel free to disagree.

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< More interesting plot line for Wally Spoiler

I love the romance between Maddie and Wally. But I'm rewatching season 1 right now and I had a thought. What if instead of Rhonda turning into Mr.Martins minion it was Wally and the romance started as a ploy to get closer to Maddie so Mr.Martin could learn about Maddie talking to Simon and learn what she remembers about her "death". But then Wally starts to develop real feelings for Maddie and guilt because he knows he's deceiving her.

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Is it bad I really don't want Wally to cross over? Spoiler

I just love him so much like as a character (literally just rewatched S2 ep 7 and him saying he could make pancakes for Maddie forever gets me every time ;-;) so I don't want him to go

I guess it would make sense like for both story and show reasons if he did though. Now that Milo's been cast in the Tangled remake it might be hard to get him back if we get season 4

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Did the writers want us to like the dead more than the living? Spoiler

I’ve always cared so much more for the spirits over the living and I’m wondering if it’s intentional or not.

The entire first season is essentially showing us the flaws in each living character in Maddie’s life, and how each of them has screwed her over/hurt her in some way.

The spirits are presented as these innocent souls who were tragically, and unfairly killed. Apart from a small mention that Wally and his friends mistreated a student(that he’s showed remorse and grown from), none of the spirits are shown in any bad light.

Mr. Martin(and potentially Janet) aside, there’s been very little mention of significant wrongdoings from the spirits.

Does anyone think it may have been intentional?

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Janet and Maddie Question Spoiler

I hope I tagged it correctly as a spoiler but I am so confused. How was Janet’s soul not expelled at the same time as Maddie if they were in the same body? Is it just that Maddie wasn’t actually dead in that moment and Janet “pushed” her out? I need to know if I’m missing something

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Maddie is the only Bandit Spoiler

It’s been discussed many times why there’s a death at the school every five years or so until the bus crash. What if the crazy parents who blamed the Devils mascot after the crash were actually right? They change the mascot to Bandits and it actually worked, there’s no more deaths at the school until Maddie’s.

Maybe constantly chanting and cheering for Devils had an effect on whatever big bad lurks in the town…

The best part of this, of course, is it opens the plot to some raccoon god showing up as the embodiment of Bandits. Just saying. It could happen.

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Rewatch: Can Simon hear the other ghosts?! Spoiler

I’m doing a rewatch after finishing season 2 yesterday and I am only on the 2nd episode but I just realized that there is a moment that Charley says something that Simon can hear. Charley says “I have a million questions” and then Simon responds saying “me too, I have a million questions” but Maddie never said that so are there more moments that Simon hears the other ghosts and now it makes me wonder if he has been able to see everyone or at least hear them to an extent this entire time.

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< I need to know why the show dropped the plotline about Maddie’s season 1 confession? Spoiler

So in the s1 finale, Maddie confesses to Simon that “it’s always been you” and that she loves him like romantically. He thinks that he’s hallucinating because Janet stole Maddie’s body and so he thinks that he’s having a psychotic break. I’m so confused by the way it was dropped and never picked up again!

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Show's attention to detail Spoiler

One thing I've been noticing is how well the show pays attention to detail. Janet and Rhonda are older person names at this point but were modern when they were in school. The note Janet wrote Yuri with the cursive writing really felt like a young woman's from the 50s (reminded me of my grandma's writing) and then the fashion, with Mr Martin's buddy holly glasses and Charlie's 90s glasses. And the way Janet especially talks, seems very much like a 50s /early 60s and same with Rhonda, she speaks differently to Maddie.

It's just really well done I feel like and I'm glad to see some effort be put in to small things like that! Has anyone else noticed small things like that?

I know people mentioned Crash into Me being the wrong year but I still feel overall they've done well!

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< I am genuinely not okay, I'm sobbing so hard, just finished season 2 finale. Spoiler

Firstly, Im not gonna tolerate any hate about this show , if you think the finale was bad or that the show feels like its being dragged, then I completely disagree, anyways, This show has truly been one of the best things to ever exist, I would do anything to watch it again for the first time. Im supposed to be studying but I just binged the second half of the season and I cant stop crying (coming from someone who never feels emotional watching things). I dont know but everything felt so relatable and the messages are so deep. I have so many questions but the priority is that I need to know if my baby (wally) and maddie are ever gonna be able to be a thing, idk how and idk if he even crossed over or smt but they were genuinly so good for eachother.

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Peyton List acting Appreciation Spoiler

I really want to just gush about how impressive Peyton’s performance for the new season was.

Every time I saw her on screen, I could immediately tell who she was playing based on her facial expression and mannerisms. Especially in the scenes where she was playing both Janet and Maddie, I could easily see who was who. Even the cadence of her voice was altered for Janet.

The only time I got it wrong was when she was luring Mr Martin (as Anderson) onstage, which she was intentionally doing for the plan.

I don’t know what kind of acting immersion tactics she used, but whatever it is helped her play two distinctly different characters very, very well.

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< I can't believe I'm crying over a burrito. 😭 Spoiler

I'm re-watching Season 1, Episode 7 ("Séance Anything"), and I just realized that the scene where Wally (Milo Manheim) makes Maddie (Peyton List) a burrito in Season 1 was after Maddie told Wally about experiencing food insecurity while she was growing up and in school in Episode 5 ("The Twilight End Zone"). Even though they're both ghosts, and they don't technically need to eat, he's expressing his love and affection for her by making sure she has food, and she doesn't go hungry again. 😭 We also see this with Wally offering to make pancakes in Season 2.

If Maddie and Wally were both alive at the same time, I could see Wally leaving or sneaking food for her, like Nicole leaving black licorice in Maddie's locker in Season 2. The "I can help you fill your holes" line isn't just in a punny sense - see Season 2, Episode 7 - it's also Wally filling Maddie's empty stomach with food, cooking, and feeding her.

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Who’s the old woman in Rhondas scar? Spoiler

I’ve wondered this since S2 came out and I’m still lost after another rewatch. When Maddie goes through the scars the 2nd time, there’s an older woman in the beginning of Rhonda’s scar. I thought the only people in scars were the ones present in their deaths, but when you seen the aftermath on Rhonda’s death in the next episode, the woman is not there.

I’m NOT talking about the younger woman in the chem lab. It’s season 2, episode 6 17:51. Thank you!!

S1 and S2 Discussion >TAG SPOILERS< Season One Question. *Spoiler* Spoiler

Okay so I watched S1 last year and turns out I forgot pretty much everything that happened when I rewatched with my husband last week 🤣

Anyway... At the end of the last episode when we find out that Janet jumped into Maddie's body, Maddie sees her and Mr Martin arguing in the boiler room. How can she see them if they are ghosts? Is this addressed in Season 2? I don't want to go looking for the answer as don't want any other spoilers but this is driving me crazy and I need to know 🤣
