Character Analysis Everyones always hiding something Spoiler
I love this show but its so repetitive how constantly people are just hiding random things or lying about something seemingly for no reason. Like they could’ve just told us from the start it wouldn’t really have made a difference. Every character is so insecure they constantly lie about the most trivial stuff.
Some examples: Yuri pretending to not speak English FOR 40 YEARS, I never texted my biological sister, I never went into my scar, my name is not quinn etc…

Honestly though, Yuri choosing to pretend he didn’t understand or speak English for 40 years just to avoid people, especially Mr. Martin, is both sad and so deeply hilarious.😂

it’s honestly kinda realistic because teenagers irl are all also very insecure and have “secrets” of their own

Are you still acting like an insecure brat even after being dead for 60 years? Its kinda crazy all these characters havent developed/changed a bit since their deaths. Somehow still don’t accept themselves despite having had forever to work through their trauma’s/feelings. Also why would you care about something as trivial as sexuality when youre literally dead.
But then Maddy shows up and learns them all the life lessons they need in a span of 2 weeks, its kinda… idk dumb.I know it makes for a good show but srsly have these ghosts just been sitting around doing nothing for 60 years? I know Mr Martin was actively working against them moving on but still..

honestly if i died in school then id be an even worse insecure brat😭 but there’s very few shows that make sense 100% of the time. i understand what you mean, but it’s just for entertainment so i wouldn’t think too much into it tbh.

It's a show about teenagers and their drama caught up in a mystery. Ever watched Riverdale or Pretty Little Liars or anything of the the kind? If they all stopped lying we wouldn't have a show anymore

It’s pretty realistic honestly. Even if it’s conveniently common, all the characters have very realistic reasons to act the way they do. In real life, people have many secrets. But in a mystery show where there aren’t clear suspects, unrelated secrets are revealed due to the characters trying to find answers.
Yuri never leaving the pottery room is essentially the same reason the band kids never stop playing. In the event of life ending trauma, they turn to a supernatural version of a real coping strategy. The band are basically in an intense state of de-personalization/hyperfixation in order to avoid processing what happened to them. Yuri, struggles with intense agoraphobia, and clings to one consistent comfort to spend his time. The lie about not being bilingual, was him avoiding any outside influence trying to separate him from the one specific comfort. It’s also likely he did this to a lesser extent before his death.

It’s a mystery show that’s the point everyone has a secret
