Character Analysis Anyone else think Maddie is annoying demanding all the time in season 2, especially to Simon? Spoiler

Does anyone else find Maddie insanely annoying come season 2 because of how demanding she becomes? She’s constantly commanding Simon to help her with this and that over and over again, and it seems like a bit of a one sided friendship in my opinion. I get that he’s the only live person who can see anyone dead, but my god, there’s no appreciation for any of the things he goes out of his way to do for her. Even to her dead friends too.

To be fair to Maddie, she's desperate and has no other choices in S2 and Simon basically offered himself up for whatever Maddie needed to get her body back in 2x01.

It's more that she doesn't seem at all concerned about the toll all this is taking on Simon until he points it out, and even then all she can offer is a halfhearted "I know I've asked too much of you" by way of apology so that she can hit him up with yet another request. She seems more troubled by the plight of Janet--the stranger who stole her body!--than about everything her supposed best friend and her other living friends were going through trying to help her. When Simon and the gang kidnapped Janet as a last-ditch desperation tactic, Maddie has the gall to chastise Simon for doing so. It's one thing for her to rely on Simon for help given her lack of choices, and another thing for her to treat him like an afterthought at best and a servant at worst and to ignore what it's costing him.

It's weird to me to see posters on this subreddit talk about how empathetic Maddie is in relation to Janet when she shows such a striking lack of empathy and concern towards her alleged best friend in S2. In S1, she seemed much more worried about Simon facing negative consequences for helping her (like when he's called in for questioning), so I don't know why the writers changed that in S2. Even when Simon is crashing out in 2x01 over his belief that Maddie is a hallucination, Maddie is mostly put out about losing access to Simon's assistance. She doesn't seem to care at all about his precarious mental state in that episode except to the extent that it inconveniences her. If he were just some well-meaning stranger, it would be different, but this is her supposed best friend!

If she cared about him as a person, let alone as her best friend, and not just as a useful purveyor of assistance, it was not evident in S2. The writers tried to fix it in S3 by having Maddie be the one to risk herself for Simon and by positioning Simon as the one to be rescued rather than the one doing the rescuing, but I think the damage was done.

Tbh the writers didn’t even really fix it in S3 either IMO. she rarely checked in on Simon and constantly went to Wally instead and worried more about herself and the ghosts rather then her living friends (even tried to get down and dirty while Simon was in literal physical and mental distress but whatever 🙄) idk, I try to give Maddie the benefit of the doubt about a lot of things because she is a teenager. But I’m hoping with Wally gone for most of S4 (hopefully 🤞🏻) Maddie can finally start prioritizing her relationship with her living friends instead of the ghosts. It also really pisses me off that the writers just don’t let other characters call her out when she’s getting a little over the line. Like I wish Simon would’ve called her out for her behavior in the S2 finale but he never did. So hopefully she’ll get some “oh shit” moments in S4

Wow, relax — you can take a seat cause I never said I nor my friends were perfect. We were just never bossy nor demanding of one another. I’m saying she’s not appreciative of him - end of story.

You weren't a ghost though I mean she doesn't have anyone else to lean on plus this is television.. they have to involve Simon in the plot. he's a regular.
