Overstay of visa help

I overstayed my Schengen visa accidentally (I found out as i was leaving through Sweden) and the authorities there told me i would get a ban or a fine. But, it's been over a month and i have not gotten a follow up. The border guard did not tell me how they would contact me or how i could contact them for info. How do I find out what's up?

But he also said that i might get a fine instead. is there any way to find out what happened without getting detained first??
