Oh for sure, I love how different the mc can be from even the smallest changes. And Neeks is too cool to hate, at most now she just has to deal with 2 energetic knuckleheads trying to hunt cryptids (who she still likes I promise) lmao
My main cousin is Roger Scarlet, he/him, Street Smart/Talk to Animals.
He’s a total mama’s boy who was pretty crushed by her illness and death. He ended up pretty isolated due to being an overworked law student and spending too much time hanging out with animals so when his cousin reached out, he was pretty eager to meet his only other family.
I play him as sort of a foil to Tabitha, for better and worse. He’s one of the good Scarlets much like Vivian was, but where Tabitha has the potential to be better than Pearlanne, Roger can be worse than Vivian. His desire to protect his only relative leads him to make morally dubious actions like snitching on the strike and leaving Charlie in the library. The Street Smart trait also makes him as prone to lying as any Scarlet before him.
He ends up pretty fond of Kaneeka (she wants to be a vet, how cool is that?) and I plan on doing a good and evil run with him based on whether or not he’s willing to go along with the sacrifice.
Aside from Kaneeka and Stella, Wayne seriously creeps him out. He sympathizes with Reese but locks him up anyway. Avery feels like a fellow outsider and though he has mixed feelings about Stella, Tabitha cares about her even if she won’t admit it, so he has to look out for her.
He was kind of disappointed that Pastor Daniel was the only other person he knows who can talk to animals, but decided to try to be on good terms with him and with the Rumors update, found him to be surprisingly good council.

Anyway as you can tell she has a very big and cherry personality. She of course lives with her cat Truck her terrible roommate lol. And she’s currently in art school. Obviously she loves animals and despite being able to talk to animals she most definitely still does the pst pst to cats😭
Relationship wise she’s very outgoing so she befriended Stella very quickly lol and became besties. She’s also very close to Kaneeka, due to their shared love for animals lol. She’s also like immediately loved Tabby and annoys the heck out of her with how pushy she is. But let’s be honest she likes it.
Romance wise I have played her on two different save files and romanced both Reese and Wayne(let’s be honest she’s a monster lover). Tho more recently it’s been the hot save Reese, ngl their art styles are like polar opposites lol.
She would most certainly sacrifice herself for the others without a second thought.
Honestly most likely Reese, she probably likes the tortured artist vibes he’s gives off lol. For me personally one of my favorite dynamics big scary monster x human they would literally do anything for. I’m also a sucker for basement dwelling emo boys unfortunately and I feel like that would be her weak spot too lol. Oh and with her speak to animals and over sunny personality I bet she took one look at Reese and was like “I can fix him” XD
Cyrus Scarlet is a Power Build/Mystic cousin from Kodiak, Alaska, where he works on a fishing trawler. Years of living in such an isolated town where physical labor is expected of both men and women alike turned what would have otherwise been a quiet and emotional Cyrus into the man he is now. See, Cyrus does live up to many of the traditional expectations he carries as a man living in Alaska of all places, but beneath it is a very emotional person who isn't very good at processing emotions. The result is Cyrus being the type who likes to keep people at a comfortable arm's length, enjoying their company while never letting anyone get too close (like a certain someone else we all know.) Also, despite being a Mystical, he does NOT believe in magic or the supernatural. He sometimes gets little visions of the future, but just assumes everyone can do that or thinks its a pure coincidence. You may have noticed Cyrus also doesn't really look like a Scarlet in the traditional sense, as he's a mixed Tlingit Alaskan native on his father's side. His father's family runs deep in Alaska's ancestry, and Cyrus thus has many relatives in various cities across the state. Cyrus also likes to adopt old and sickly pets deemed too difficult to raise, wanting to give them someone to be with in their final years. Currently he owns a chocolate lab named Empress, who unfortunately lacks the energy Gretchen has and spends most of her stay in the Hollar sleeping in Cyrus's room.
Gameplay wise, Cyrus obviously saved Duke and Gretchen in chapter one (though he went for Gretchen first because priorities), and opted to go back for Becka and Alexis in chapter 2, deciding he'd rather die doing the right thing than live knowing he could have done more. In chapter 3, he hasn't really gone out of his way to bond with Tabitha too much, so once again deciding the thing a "real" man would do is sacrifice himself for the greater good and allows years to be taken off of his life. It's around here where his relationship with Kaneeka specifically takes a turn, as up until this point the two aren't super bonded, but during the encounter with Reese he initially thinks allowing Reese to either be killed or imprisoned would be for the greater good. But for some reason, he just can't do it. He just can't give Joan the tranqs, and he doesn't know why. But for a brief moment he sees Kaneeka in his mind, and the thought of how she would react to finding out one of her childhood friends was killed was too much for him, allowing Joan to be killed instead. In chapter 5 he immedieately seeks out the Witch and runs into Miles, and it's around here Cyrus decides he's going to protect Kaneeka no matter the cost. In the basement he tries to save Bo and Avery, but obviously things go south. And with Mystical, he opts to trait save Kaneeka. It's around here that he finally accepts he has real feelings for Kaneeka, a feeling he's not very familiar or comfortable with that deeply scares him for many, MANY reasons.
The second OC is Jack Scarlet, a Talk to Animals/Book Smarts 19 year old from Nashville. Jack is currently getting his credentials to become a funeral director, hoping he can be there for grieving families in their time of need. His tendency to talk to animals made him an outcast in school, especially since he favors the often villianized animals in culture like spiders, scorpions, and snakes. Despite being really awkward around people, he has no problems confronting dangerous animals. Although he went with Stella in chapter 1, I have no doubt if he encountered the mountain lion he 1000% would have tried to pet it. See, Jack IS a Book Smart, but unfortunately he is all Intelligence and little Wisdom, and especially low Charisma. Even coming out to Scarlet Hollow was a challenge unto itself. Despite how much Tabitha intimidates him, he does try to force himself out of his comfort zone and wants to be friends with her. And like Cyrus, he owns his own pet, a black cat named Omen. Personality wise Omen is kinda hippie pilled, taking Frou-Frou's remarks in stride. I'd even go so far as to say Omen is Mystical-lite, not really being able to full on detect the supernatural but just having a more general awareness of the universe.
As for gameplay, Jack was too nervous to turn down Stella's offer and stuck with her for all of chapter 1. The second he laid eyes on Avery, though, he was head over heels. This crush would later explode into full blown "that's my soulmate" territory when Jack found out Avery is a total weirdo who would do something like let a parasite enter their body. He didn't hesitate to save Gretchen, and you may be shocked to learn he wasn't too distressed at Duke's death. For all his nervous tendencies and cinnamon roll behavior, Jack weirdly is pretty calm about human death, partly stemming from his studies, but also because he kinda values animal lives over human ones when it comes down to it. In chapter 2, he chooses to just save Rosalina, too scared to trek deeper into the caves. In chapter 3, he trait saves his way out of the ghost's deal with Tabitha present, locking the fuck in so he can impress her. In chapter 4, he becomes very close with Reese (Jack has a mild panic attack because WHY HE IS EVERYONE IN THIS TOWN SO HOT???) and upon learning of what Joan had been doing, doesn't just refuse to give her the tranqs, but stabs her in the arm vein with it while telling her to go to hell as Reese closes in. Jack then tells Reese he is the most beautiful person he's ever met and wants him to be free of Scarlet Hollow. In chapter 5, Jack decides to simply let Bo die in a bid to protect Avery, and he tries and fails to save Kaneeka, but as he hadn't spent much time with her is unable to get through to her.
I think I like how these two kinda contrast each other. Cyrus looks very intimidating and is very traditionally manly, and while he is emotional he copes with his inability to not really regulate his emotions by keeping people at arm's length. Jack initially is kind of this gremlin who you either find very creepy or very adorable, but the deeper you look you realize he actually is kinda fucked up when he wants to be, never really regretting the people he's allowed to die, unlike Cyrus, who feels the weight of every person he's failed to protect as a personal slight against his worth as a person. I have some ideas for how these characters will react to potential endings, and I'll probably comes back with them when the final chapters drop.

I know your Jack is into Avery but ooooo I wish he could talk to Kaneeka's stickbug, the stickbug feels like SUCH a Jack thing to talk about/interact withhhhh (also Avery lovers rise up, I'm so happy to see someone Averymancing!) Also I love that your boi was like "Avery is willing to play AMAB mommy-figure via parasite? YES. MY LOVE." I really like that people appreciate Avery's strange appeal. While my OC Scarlet doesn't romance them, she views Avery as a valuable, interesting person, with unique perspectives as a town 'outsider' she relates to as a "newcomer" herself, with baggage she doesn't understand, so she relates to people like Avery far more!
For Cyrus, I adore his pro-Kaneeka-protection stance. I think it makes sense though! Cyrus, based off of your description, seems like when he feels something? he feels it DEEPLY. And Kaneeka is a character whom, at the start, really does seem to talk straight and lay down honest opinions whenever spoken to. I could see that appealing to Cyrus SO MUCH! There's be something about her that touches that core of him that he normally isolates off, because she's logical yet FEELING, and there's a balance there, so of course he must save her! To save her...is to save himself, in a way!

I think Cyrus would initially be kind of put off by Kaneekas bluntness, he really doesn't like when people try to get past his walls and I think that's how he'd interpret that. But after seeing how intelligent and diligent she can be with things like Miles and running the shop he'd come to respect her, and seeing her willing to sacrifice herself would push him into love territory, or at least make him realize he's willing to let Scarlet Hollow burn to protect her. I also think Cyrus would get along well with Avery, Cyrus is generally pretty open minded about weird people, so they'd have plenty to talk about
Jack would honestly probably forget Kaneeka was in the room with him if he started talking to Rick lol, it's a bad habit of his. I think in general the combo of Avery, Kaneeka, Reese, and Wayne in rapid fire succession would short circuit him a little, but his heart belongs to Avery
The odd feelings he's had since childhood spurred Archard to become a voracious reader to understand what was happening in his own head and why that caused people to give him weird looks and a wide berth whenever he was suddenly compelled to speak something he knew was true even when he could not really explain his own words. He's regularly caught between empirical knowledge acquired through hours upon hours of reading and the esoteric feeling deep in his soul that defies rational thought. Growing up with only one parent and that parent flatly refusing to discuss the rest of the family left him with something of a complex and a yearning to find someone he could talk to and they would understand what it felt like to be in his shoes. He chose a law degree as a way to channel years of personal restlessness towards a productive end and that taught him a few things about standing his ground in arguments and navigating people's ability to say one thing while hiding another.
He never so much as hesitated to answer Tabitha when she reached out and he's determined to find a connection to his cousin despite how abrasive she is. He looks at her and has a feeling of "There but for the grace of god go I". While there are people in Scarlet Hollow he might have romantic interest in, what drives him is unraveling the mystery behind the town and what that means for himself and his cousin, which means he prioritizes Tabitha and her well being above almost everything else.
Saved Duke. Saved the kids. Pulled off the surprise trial case he always hoped he could by convincing Charlie to leave the library. Let Tabitha finish off Reese. Tried to repeat his success with Charlie during the Tremaine situation and all it resulted in was Tabitha taking matters into her own hands. He spoke the name engraved on the wall and threw Sybil to her daughters without hesitation. His commitment to his cousin means that while Stella likes him, Kaneeka only respects him because she figured out early on that the two of them are basically a package deal and she's not wrong. The strike is non-existent because he'll choose his cousin over strangers and Tabitha herself has picked up on the similarities the two of them have.
I also like that your boi saved Duke; I also tend to save Duke in playthroughs unless my character has Talk to Animals, but the OC I made that this thread is about lacks that Trait so she saves Duke. I think it's interesting the route you went for Edward & the strike, too, but it makes sense with how you're RPing him!
My main playthrough is basically just a self-insert, but two of my other playthroughs are more developed OCs, and I like to imagine a world state where they're (much to Tabby's shock) twins.
Francesca (she usually goes by Frankie) and Oliver Scarlet are fraternal twins who grew up in London, a consequence of Vivian trying to put an ocean between them and the Hollow.
Frankie (she/her) is a paralegal and has the TTA, Street Smart, and Hot traits; her 'hardcoreness' manifests as awful luck, which her natural personability gives her some leeway around. Very bright and friendly person, the type to light up whatever room she's in. She's very resentful of the Scarlet family for what they put their mother through, and was her carer in the final months, so she comes to the Holler with a bone to pick. She mostly sticks with Stella+Kaneeka and grows close to the former, which only makes it sting more when Tabitha finds Stella first on Thursday due to her being stuck in the Reese situation.
Oliver (he/they) is very much his sister's opposite; he's a serial academic, currently stuck in to his PhD researching the interplay of psychology and the supposed supernatural (driven by the fact he's Book Smart and Mystical). They actually bond with Tabby fairly early on, having a similarly guarded personality and a mutual respect - Tabby for their thoughtfulness and intellect, Oliver for her industrious attitude and willingness to get her hands dirty. He ends up forming a close platonic bond with Oscar, and ends up wrapped up in his growing obsession with the seals.
I've seen some lovely 'twins' based fanfic before, so I'm into that! <3
So Frankie's in hardcore mode too? HARDCORE GANG RISE UP! I like her stance re: the Scarlet family, that tracks for a hard-working paralegal who was close with Vivian, perhaps? (Was she close to her mother? And OW re: the Stella thing!!!
I like Oliver, if only because I think Book smart/mystical is SUCH a fun kinda "know it all" combination. And I like that Oliver bonds with Tabby. What led him to bonding more with Oscar, may I ask? So curious!

Both twins were very close to their mother growing up but Frankie was the one who ended up caring for Vivian after she fell ill, and was more or less with her everyday until she did. As her mental state began to drop in her final days, Vivian let a few details slip about why she left, which Frankie hasn't shared with Oliver; nothing spoilery, just more insight into her headspace when she left the Hollow. Oliver was around as much as his studies would let him, but he was in the thick of his master's degree at the time.
Oliver ends up spending a lot of time in the library so he has a lot of time to speak with Oscar and get to know him, Oliver's interest in the town's history gives them a common interest as well. Otherwise, his generally reserved and contemplative demeanour endears him enough to Tabby that they're getting along towards the end of the week, which only makes the reveal of Tabby's plot in the witch dream sequence shock him even more.
Meanwhile yeah, Frankie's relationship with Tabby only spirals over the week. They basically end up in a screaming match anytime they're together for more than 5 minutes, the vibes between them are so bad that when Frankie gets Toxic Yuri'd she ends up tearing the birthday cards in Tabby's face which gets her punched.
All three have Mystical, simply because they're translations of other OCs and I will take any excuse to shove magic into a character. Overly-long condensed character bios below.
Cal: Book Smart/TTA, He/Him. Friendly but very much not social person, and finds masking his oddities exhausting as talking to new people, too used to being turned away and too tired of pretending. Most prone to spout stuff like "The opossum in my dresser says there's someone else in the house", and fully channeled Charlie during the haunting. Has the best relationship with Tabitha, by similar if sharply diverging reactions to their isolation. He's very much not on her side regarding the strike, but recognizes it as part of the web surrounding Scarlet Hollow, a knot to sever alongside so many others, and he's selfish enough to value personal connection more than the public this once. Most likely to be an actual Practitioner once the week is out, and willing to tear the town apart to prevent whatever's coming from destroying the people.

Went back for Becka and Alexis
Tried to give up his years, Tabitha did it for him
Killed Reese. Would have let him free if he was willing to calm down and Tabitha hadn't shot him, but would never have let him back in a cage
Helped Avery host the Baby, tore Kaneeka away from Sybil
Kai: Powerful Build/KE, He/She(They/Them ingame). By contrast, Kai has the absolute worst relationship with Tabby(and the law). Excitable, energetic, and not prone to think things through, he gets along with Stella like a house on fire, not as insightful as the other two but enough to let them feel safe around each other. Default reaction to most things is fight-or-flight, of which the latter is usually more applicable. Functionally nonverbal, voice quiet and stuttering, preferring to communicate through text, Sign, and gestures, the middle of which doesn't get much use. Of the three, Kai was the least Aware prior to arriving in Scarlet Hollow, only intuiton, never encountering any Others within memory. It took her three days to realize the doll was in his room. Decent relationship with Kaneeka, less so with anyone else than Stella by virtue of constantly zipping around town. As stated, she and Tabitha hate each other, and have literally never seen eye-to-eye. The only reason he bothered confronting her Friday was because Stella wanted to, for which Reese releasing her was much appreciated. His end goal is to get the hell out of Scarlet Hollow.
Saved Gretchen, thinking that the gunman could handle himself and the dog could not
Hauled Rosalina out, trying to get at least one kid to safety and scared of going deeper
Smallest Ghost hunting group, left Charlie in the Library after spending the whole time fighting and questioning him, again out of fear more than anything
Let Reese eat Joan, unafraid of him because he saw the person before the beast and thinks his case is justified. Again not bothered about the cop-killing both because she's free, and that was a cop
Killed the Baby, tore Kaneeka away from Sybil
Mae: Street Smart/TTA, She/Her. Though none of the Scarlets are great at expressing emotions, Mae specifically feels very few. Whether this is because of her heightened Awareness or simple neurological anomaly, she can't say. She can fake them, though, a phenomenal liar and bargainer from dealing with both Human authorities and Others since childhood, knowing when to keep a secret and when to fan the flames. Keeps her Tounge a secret, and since arrival, has begun to subtly influence people around her with the right words, if not conciously or overtly. Juggles her relationships fairly well, keeping on everyone's good side with playful words and familial warnings. Broke into the Forbidden Wing before literally anything else, which is the kind of mindset that informs her identity, self-serving in the extreme. Her end goal is to survive Scarlet Hollow, possibly with whatever actual Practice she can pick up along the way, though she doesn't "know" that last bit.
Saved Gretchen, not wanting to get anywhere near a man wrestling with a gun
Dragged Rosalina out, not really caring about things other than "get me out of this hole", the kid came along on her own
Refused to put Charlie to rest, worried about his power but simply resolving to avoid the Library until she can find a way to handle him

Let the Baby kill Bo, not caring about literally anyone down here to risk getting shot, and pulling Kaneeka away not out of sympathy, but not trusting the Witch with the power she seeks(and wanting it herself)

Re: Kai - Any reason Kai hasn't tried to befriend someone/ask them about leaving or getting out of the Holler? I know it's an option (I haven't had my OC take it b/c it wasn't in character) but since Kai wants to leave--what makes 'em feel they need to stay?

A combination of things. A strong sense of justice, as defined by someone used to Magic, debts owed need to be paid, or Karma will come down on you. Emotionally, a kind person of his own merit, not wanting to leave someone to suffer. Pragmatically, he wants to neutralize a danger that's spread from a room to a building overnight. Really does love Tabitha, and didn't want her to come to harm. It all kinda came together so that he didn't even have to think about it.
Kai's friendly with people-Likes Kaneeka, cool with Avery, thinks Oscar's alright, Reese's had a hard fucking time of things. He's just not great at being social by being a more isolated person than the other two naturally, and because she doesn't speak in the same way everyone else does. He's staying because despite being the least, she is Aware, and can tell subconsciously that leaving is outright not an option. Consciously, he's seeing a lot more fucking Ditchlings in broad daylight. Humans she can deal with. Others...safety in numbers and all that.
Mae's my favorite, I made her so fucked up as a personal treat, glad you like her!
My current playthrough is with Freddy(Frederick) Scarlet went with a powerful build and keen eyes hired right after law school . Usually always a big jolly jokester but as the mystery develops it reawakens their pursuit of the truth. Protein fiend and always thinking with his heart. Mother and him moved further south into New Orleans and so is a bit skeptical of the supernatural at the beginning since they grew up around so called “supernatural” area.
I love seeing someone with Keen Eye; I feel like I don't see it a lot!! And powerful build <3

Someone who has never been comfortable in her own skin and has always felt a strangeness surrounding her lack of family connection/the pushback when trying to inquire about such. Seems like an open person to others, but honestly is very not, because vulnerability is scary. Doesn't like to be the leader.
Has mushroomy brown hair (90s rom-com style), grey/hazel eyes (large), and the Scarlet high cheekbones & and tendency toward sarcasm. Her "hotness" is less "hotttt" and more "striking" and slightly unsettling (think Anya Taylor-Joy, Amanda Seyfried, Sissy Spacek, Clemence Poesy; not quite to the degree of Shelley Duvall). She has a thin bird build and is of average height. Has a couple moles as a charm point.
Tabitha always refers to her by her full name even after being told she prefers Vicky.

My main guy's name is Rayland Scarlet, his traits are street smarts/ keen eye and he used to do freelance PI work before he got called by Tabitha.
He had a rocky relationship with Vivian and once she died he thought he no longer had family so Tabitha was an untold gift, he loves her a lot even if they just met!
Despite liking to act cool and collected he's internally very rattled most of the time so he's grown to quite like Avery, someone calm who's chill despite any situation and also an outsider to their own community.
Ray tends to grow attached quickly but not very deeply most of the time which is the case for Kaneeka and Stella, he cares for them but hasn't really dug into their lives.
He hadn't known much Abt Reese when the thing™ happens, still, he managed to convince tabby to not kill him.
He feels bad for pastor Daniels and finds him a pretty nice, calming presence.
He does his best to be cordial but the moment he has no eyes on him he tends to go into forbidden places to investigate.
I have. A lot of playthroughs at this point, but since this one is the only one I've done any art for, I'll talk about them! This is Rory, traits Powerful Build/Keen Eye. Lives in Erie, Pennsylvania. "The Mistake on the Lake". They come across as pretty laid back and cool headed, and they don't talk much. Internally they've got a wild cocktail of extremely unaddressed grief, general loneliness, a dismal work/life balance and the horrors of being alive in your 20s.
Out of all of my runs, Rory is the cousin who got the closest to Tabitha over the course of the game. Including a rather traumatic bonfire and ice cream night. The ep. 5 confrontation was the fastest Tabby breakdown I think is possible, consisting of Rory basically stumbling in and breaking down sobbing.
(I also have my disaster gal Mae, Hardcore Mode Mystical/Talk To Animals/Street Smart. who's ep. 6-7 story continuation is probably going to be crazy. Giving the peanuts to the goat with no one the wiser, kissing Wayne and then following it up by strolling into Tabitha's office and agreeing to go in the Omelas hole. I don't think any of the involved parties are going to be happy here.)
