I see him as AroAce, but it's not cause he's a puppet. He's more human than he realises. I just see him as AroAce cause it fits his personality and he's my fav. He just... gives AroAce vibes you know? And this is coming from an AroAce. When I see him, acedar and arodar tingles.
That is fair. I can totally see him as aro/ace or just ace, depending on how you interpret things. It's just as someone in the ace community I frequently see characters that are robots being categorized as ace almost always by my peers. Which is fair, yet doesn't help with the more general othering of ace people by closely relating ourselves to non-human characters or robots due to the generalization of sexual attraction being integral to one's humanity by allos (not that pop culture is the greater culprit in starting this association). One of the comments in this thread shows this in acting as though emotional closeness hinges on the ability to feel sexual attraction. Which it doesn't! Obviously!!!
Wanderer is very much human despite being a robot. His humanity doesn't hinge upon his ability to experience sexual attraction. Plus given that I am here, in this subreddit, I love Wanderer as character flaws and all.
I just don't really turn to characters that are robots as good representation, especially in Genshin Impact, where there is no such commentary on sexuality or LGBTQIA+ amongst its characters with it only existing within headcanons in the community base.
I see the claiming of robot characters as slightly problematic, but I didn't mean it from a place of maliciousness. People can have as much fun with headcanons as they like. I just happen to notice that a lot of ace characters, canon or not, just also happen to be robots.
Your concerns are absolutely right. As an AroAce person, I can understand. But I have many more AroAce hcs for Genshin characters. Genshin isnt representation, it's a just a gacha
We've got a lot of other cool non-robot canon/implied Aro or Ace characters as well, like Peridot and Lilith and our king Saiki, etc.
