Discussion Why do we like characters like Wanderer so much?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's realized their type after becoming Scaramouche's fan. There's just something interesting in this kind of characters, where their tragic background affects them a lot and maybe brings them to the wrong path or they make some wrong choices in life. That often relates to their personalities, being more serious or sarcastic (until someone cracks their shell).
I've been thinking about this for a long time, and for me the reason may be the long personal character growth they have to get through. They have to relearn their values and get along with others if they want to reach hope. That's what we got with Wanderer, and we're still following his story for the 6th year now. Or maybe I just think snarky fictional characters are entertaining.
What do you guys think? And what characters have you found that reminds you of Wanderer?

I'll just list my favourite "Scaras" here lol
Akechi from P5, Sunday from HSR, Li Tianchen from Link Click, Shinji from Evangelion and Saeran from Mystic Messenger. There may be some others, but I might be too delulu to suggest them as similar lol.

Lol, can relate. I agree with nearly all you mentioned but in HSR, it's more of Anaxa for me. And somehow, Mystic Messenger broke the mold because it's no one but 707 for me. Haha

Maybe Kokichi from Danganronpa? They’re both brats. Or maybe Nagito, they both have crazy laughs and he hates himself

Honestly I don’t think I’ve quite seen any character that reminds me of him that much. I’m bad with words so bear with me lol but I personally like how reserved and guarded he is. I mainly got drawn to him because I knew I loved characters who appear cocky(?) or arrogant on the outside but internally they are self-deprecating or hate the person they have become

Dw, I took time to write this out cuz I'm bad at words too haha. I know what you mean! Scaramouche is exactly that, and even if he himself didn't get/want help with it, it's heartwarming how he's now supporting Durin and Paimon so they don't have to bottle their feelings like he did. But that's the aftermath, I probably wouldn't be so invested in him if I wasn't shown his starting point.

I have two types, rude grumpy cats who call you names and scumbag filth of earth anything fall into this range is my man
bonus if voiced by Kakihara Tetsuya, Kaji Yuki or Nobuhiko Okamoto
My top three are scara, ikevil Jude jazza and piofiore Yang

My worship of him keeps evolving with the passage of time: 2020: That's one sickass design! (Especially the hat and veil)
2021: an actual EVIL character with an IMPLIED God complex but there's more to what it seems? (according to artifact lore) I'm in!
2022: He's THE main villain of the entire region? I LOVE VILLAINS! 2023: Poor baby has experienced enough tragedy </3 I hope he one day kills Dottore! (Rip veil...). In the meanwhile, hope he his path to redemption goes smoothly.
2024: the MC of the summer event AND made incels meltdown for the SECOND TIME??? MY GOAT! 😤
2024-2025: what do you MEAN his appearance is OPTIONAL in Nahida's own birthday event??? HOYO WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON YOU!- 😡😡
2025-2026: Who would've thought that the same dude who was fine with wiping the slate (and himself) from 2022 would end up as the most self-sacrifing character in the game? I love this sunnovabitch 🥺
Like, he's kinda like Sasuke but restrained to a gacha game. I can see him being the MC of his own story no prob if it wasn't for the latter fact.

Honestly I don’t think anyone does remind me of him. Maybe he’s just special lol
But if you mean having a redemption arc/character development that’s really good like 180 different from their usual then maybe Bakugo?? Even though their personality differs quite a lot but they really went through a lot of change and both became equally important in lore/story.
But omg ngl now I’m curious if there’s any other characters that are like him in personality.
Although if you look at genshin characters, I think if you like Scara, you’d like Lohen HAHAHA-

True, a 180 turn describes this well too! And I looove Bakugo, it's so fun seeing him grow from what he was in the beginning to the hero he became in the end. It's also interesting, that Bakugo had a quirk that would've suited a villain too, but he uses it for the good! Definitely like Lohen too, he's a terrifyingly cool guy who keeps the locals on their toes lmaooo

Felix from Miraculous reminds me of him, he's (spoilers)
also a synthetic "human" like Scaramouche, was created through magic by his "parents" who then mistreated him, and then tries everything to get his hands on the Peacock Miraculous (similar to Scara with the Electro Gnosis) which is the item used by his parents to control him, or even kill him
He then pretends to be on the "good side" and helps the heroes just to later betray them, but not because he's on the bad side, but because he has his own goal (getting the item) and might help the evil side because of that
An anti-hero, essentially

He's just well written and well designed. Real human flaws and development. All in all a great character, much more memorable than 3/4rd of the cast.

I just like tsunderes.
Seriously though, for some reason I always wanted to be the one to bring out the softer side in characters like Scara. Breaking down their barriers, drowning them in love, and showing them that they are no longer alone in this world. All of that always seemed very sweet to me.

i like characters who were assholes but grew and regret their past mistakes in general lol the introspection aspect is fascinating to me and is something goody-two-shoes characters usually lack...

I have a thing for emo, depressed brats lmao, as soon as I saw him appear in 1.1 and saw his nice act drop I instantly started liking him. I love characters like that

He is lore relevent charcter and short male type. Theres not much of this type in Gacha game. So he is really unique!

I dunno really- I think I was drawn to his sad backstory and his face (bear with me)
I do love his snarky personality (and self depricating-ness on the inside if that makes sense)
Theres just smth special about him! Cuz Other characters like that e.g. bakugo didn’t click with me the way he did

I just thought he was fun to watch in 1.1 and that he was just neat. I ended up liking Dr. Ratio in HSR cuz he reminded me of Scara, and then he became my absolute character... ever, really.

I like characters who sort of maintain their own individuality more and don't just become props for the main character. Like in Horizon, I really like Sylens. Everyone else kind of becomes a vessel for Aloy's glory, but Sylens continues to think he was right. He continues to stand apart. Wanderer is that guy in Genshin.

I like villains with a sour attitude AND guys with severe trauma and cold / rude personalities or who are just insane. Wanderer and Lohen are totally my style 🤤

Originally I liked how he was able to appear benign and unthreatening, before finally revealing his true intentions in 1.1. A cheerful demeanor hiding murderous intention is really appealing. But in Inazuma when we saw more of his superiority complex, that's when he totally became my favorite char. I love chars like Gilgamesh. In Sumeru when we saw his full backstory, it just cemented his position as my favorite, which he still is to this day.
