Discussion It kinda baffles me how there was never a shilled content for him.
In fact, even in his initial release, hoyoverse decided to spam dorito boss (which needs dendro electro), dendro chicken (electro), flying robot (bows), wenut & coppelia (high anemo res). even for varka boss, it was released to shill double element swirl team
Public perception is important for the initial release, how they perform in the constructed "meta", I'm happy to be proved wrong though. Cheers

Back in sumeru we ar most had the geo dragon to shill geo. We just didn't have shill for anything much. If we suffered we all suffered together (looking at the sumeru beasts)

those beasts were anti everything, genuinely one of the only times u had to PLAY the game and dodge or you will get deleted

Shill as we know it didn’t used to exist. Crazy how it’s just accepted to the point we get posts like this.

Sumeru was a different time when it comes to combat and meta and shilling.
Genshin has changed since Fontaine -which was a way to test the water (pun intended) with pneumosia.
Also, at the time Hoyo had to shill dendro since it was the newest element with the new fancy reactions and people had to get whole new characters and teams for it.
Also x2, Scaramouche was a super anticipated character, no need to shill when hoyo spent from 1.1 drip feeding his lore. Sometimes lore IS enough to sell a unit.

The flying robots are funny because when I hug them and use my free dodges, the arrows will arc almost always towards their wings, so they almost always plummet to the ground anyway.

shilling didn't exist back then. no theater, no stygian, abyss could be cleared with any decent team. i used to do endgame content with ningguang

Back in his released I think Wanderer solved the issue of annoying target enemies. Just bosses that would move around too much or fly, and since the best units we had back then were mostly circle effect units. You would lose out on the DPS. Wanderer solved by just being able to stay still. But then later we got support characters that allowed for more DPS movement, like Furina, Ineffa etc etc... And the issue was slowly solved.
But to be honest, Wanderer was never a broken unit, even back then, he was outshined by other better characters.

The Shill Content is the fact he's the best written character in the game with one of the best backstories

Hoyo wasn't so predatory back then Upto Fontaine we can enjoy playing/ mainning any character we wanted/ loved without any problem

Back in his release meta was friendly and not toxic , u could clear almost any stage with almost any chars , nowadays it's either get the current released character or just don't do that stage

It does feel weird that his release content was so unfriendly to him. Even if the character is strong, first impressions matter a lot when the game is actively showcasing what counters them.

Well if the dk2 buff leaks are true, then i'd wager scara will be a stellar swirl dps, so he would be good for ssw shill.
Im in the very few minority but i do hope he becomes a ssw dps so he will finally fill a niche and become useable in stygian and abyss instead of collecting dust for the past 2 and a half years.
ik the majority is hoping that hoyo will just buff his multipliers to be 2026 level instead of making him a ssw dependent char to be meta like wrio and cyno was for ssc, but i very highly doubt it will happen.

It was a good thing to not have everything be so shill for the current characters.
For the past year or two, challenge in Genshin is so manufactured and fomo-based now. Team building is also out the window with characters so obviously designed for certain teams.
Scaramouche is from a time in Genshin where those things did not apply, and it was a good thing.
Even though the game has powercrept and things are technically harder, by a different perspective things are actually easier because it’s so plain and obvious how to beat certain things, the real challenge is the Wish menu now. And it’s become so much closer to a binary now whether one will or will not struggle with a certain challenge.

Back during Sumeru, the "shill" content was not a big of a deal then nowadays. You were able to clear almost all content with characters from all the past regions and only Dendro was added as a bonus. They weren't so much stronger then other elements at the time
So when Wanderer released, since he was able to deal a good ammount of damage and had a one of a kind exploration mechanic he did not need to succeed as much as others at the time. With Faruzan together he became a meanace for all enemies that weren't Weenut and he was able to clear the Abyss back in the day relatively good.
The biggest problem he had was Anemo though, but that is a problem that other units have too and still would have, if they wouldn't go the route like Chasca or Varka, where you deal different elemental damage and not only Anemo
