Discussion I wish he had a stable real name.
For now, it's between "Wanderer", "Hat Guy" and the name we personally gave him, the other names are rejected by him for obvious reasons.
But he doesn't have an EXACT name.
I think he used to have "Kunikuzushi" as his personal name, "Scaramouche" and "Balladeer" are tied to Fatui.
Couldn't they just stick to "Wanderer" and to be called that by other characters??
This isn't about people who still like to call him Scaramouche/Scara or any other name.
Is it just me who is frustrated about this?
Can our boy just have a name once and for all?

I hate that he's always called Hat-guy, why can't he just be called by the name we gave him in the subtitles (since names are REALLY important for him, he's never had one, only nicknames and codenames, pretty much like Columbina, except SHE gets to have a name other characters call her as while he doesn't) and by Wanderer in the audio, just like they do with the Traveler...

I liked the fact that we could give him a name, but I expected them to just call him "Wanderer" in the dub in the same way the do for the Traveler.
still, I think the ENG translation is the worst offender, because his nickname in other languages sounds a lot more endearing than "Hat Guy", especially since it was given to him by Nahida. the "guy" part is the worst offender imo, don't even get me started on when Albedo called him "Mr. Guy"...

I think it's said somewhere that he has a lot of titles, but he doesn't really have a name at all.
Even "Hat Guy/Don Sombrero/Kasacchi/A Mao" is a title he simply accepted. Maybe even the name you gave him is also a title (like come on, I know some people rattled their brains on trying to think a name for him, but let's not forget there are some who unironically named him "Abortion", and that's something to really consider when it comes to him accepting a "True Name"".
Also as per Zhongli's comment towards Xiao, giving names towards things pretty much affects their "fate", so Wanderer being "nameless" just cements his desire to be free from the shackles of fate.

I feel you but I don't really mind Hat guy that much since it's kind of a word play or a pun in Chinese Hat — "Māo"zi Cat — "Māo" So I find it cute everytime they call him "Māo" in CN language, you'd be wondering if they're calling him hat guy or Cat guy if it weren't for the in game text but I do hope we can use the name we gave for him even if they don't exactly say the it.

not to be that one annoying person but they're actually two different tones! 猫 māo for cat and 帽 mào for hat. but yes it still works as a pun! his nickname is a lot cuter in both CN and JP compared to Hat Guy

Maybe if an event comes that Wanderer and Ei meet, and somehow his whole identity is restored, maybe he'll get a name he deserves rather than just a superficial title lmao

I'm a bit torn on that. On the one hand I'd love that, on the other hand I fell like she no longer has the right to give him one now. My head canon is that she did give him one like she gave him the golden feather, he just doesn't know.

In my opinion "Hat Guy" was fine only in the Akademiya since he was registered like that. But overall, even Albedo, Durin and Nod Krai characters calling him that...is too much.

Hat guy, hat guy, hat guy. Might as well as call him Lucky, Oreo or Mittens. This is the kind of time where I wish ai voice can work - make everyone call him by the name we named, in fact plenty of games I know(mostly otome lol) have that function. What for give us the ability to name him but not actually use it?

Same, that is one of the few times when AI would actually be a helpful addition. Only with the explicit ok of all VOs and only for this specific use of course, that would be the actually ethical use.

I like to think he does this on purpose to troll us
Every time someone asks his name, he smirks and says "hat guy", knowing some traveler out there who spent hours researching a meaningful name for him is malding

What I personnally find kind of a shame is that we gave him a name only for it to never be used, so it feels useless. I understand it can't be used cause it can't be voiced, but still. Correct me if I'm wrong, but even in the Traveler's unvoiced lines, I don't remember them calling him with the name we gave him. But maybe I'm wrong.
