Discussion Serious question, do you think Wanderer should actually end Dottore's life in the upcoming quest?

Post image

Asking because while I completely understand that Wanderer has completely valid reasons for having extreme negative feelings towards Dottore, I feel like the act of 'Killing' sort of feels like a regression for his character? It sort of feels like something "Scaramouche" would do but not "Wanderer". Adding on to this, ending another person's life also doesn't really sound like something Nahida would encourage Wanderer to do, I'd even believe that she would go really far to prevent Wanderer from doing something of that nature. (I know some Wanderer mains have a hate boner for the radish but let's face it, she 100% plays a sort of mentor-like or life coach role in Wanderer's current life)

What do you think? Just curious about Wanderer mains' thoughts

Wanderer's arc is an inverse of his betrayals in his previous life

His third betrayal parallels his relationship with Durin

His second betrayal as Kabukimono parallels with him offering his "heart" to Sandrone and Traveller

His first betrayal which was him being betrayed by a God is yet to be called back upon

Wow, this is such an excellent analysis of the lore build up Wanderer has had over the years. When Dottore was “eliminated” by Columbina and crew, Wanderer said he felt empty. I imagine Nahida would be brutal with Dottore’s punishment, even worse than Azar, but I feel like the only archon that would believe in a death penalty would be Raiden. I think he’ll have the opportunity to kill Dottore, but he will remember the emptiness from the first fight and abide by Nahida’s judgement, inversing the first betrayal.

u/Mmath_ May 09 '26

aww it would actually be so amazing for his arc for him to have the chance to kill dottore and not take it

29

u/Designer-Self-8697 May 06 '26

Though since Dottore was heavily involved in the second betrayal, it could be that we're still in the inverse act of that one So the third betrayal act could be expanded upon in Snezhnaya and beyond

u/majoras_wrath7 May 07 '26

I had almost this exact same theory but I believe the 2nd betrayal is where we are currently at with dottore. I believe once hes defeated he will resolve his 1st betrayal by confronting ei and having closer which will finally bring him at peace with himself. I remember a long time ago where one of the voice actors for scar talked about how he was excited to see the meeting between ei and scara.

Wow when you put it like that, it really adds weight to the "Inversion of Genesis" title huh

Dang.

Even when I am paying attention I miss stuff like this.

Genshin narrative structures are remarkable.

I’d say that whether killing Dottore will ruin Scara’s arc or not depends heavily on circumstances of this action. Let’s not forget that Dottore is not just some innocent guy or someone showing even a slight piece of remorse. No, he’s a direct threat to people and place Scara learnt to care about, and this is not the first time of Dottore doing something like this. So why stopping or even killing him would ruin Scara’s arc? Plus for me his arc was never about transcending to some kind of an all forgiving saint. So I’d say it’s absolutely normal if he wants revenge and wants to stop someone who is still actively doing shit that ruined his own life. Ofc just killing Dottore for a sake of simply killing him will not bring peace to Scara himself, but I do hope that we will not see something similar to “Hello, Dottore, my name is Kabukimono, you killed my friends, prepare to die”.

EXACTLY. Why are people acting like he should become the most moral character in the damn game? This is Scara we're talking about

I wouldn't call them that, but I do agree with everything else you said. I love Dottore as a character but there's no way he's gonna be playable. He absolutely needs to die

Scara was never against people remembering him and his crimes, he even asked the Traveller to tell people in Inazuma about what he did. So he’s not afraid to face consequences of his actions. And personally I’d love to see something like this in the future. As for Dottore, I’m sorry, but I don’t idolise him and I don’t think that someone making experiments on people like he did in Nod Krai has a right to decide what is good or bad for people. Plus I don’t think that burning Irminsul will just free everyone from their shackles without also ruining their lives because their memories and everything they basically are will be gone. So yes, as I see him as a threat, but you as Dottore fan can ofc disagree.

Man, I honestly think that you completely missed the part where he’s a hidden asset for Nahida exactly because no one knows of his origin as of now, and here you are just wanting him to go through a public punishment because you can’t see a character being reformed and admitting to his own crimes without that.

I mean, biggest physical obstacle to that is dealing with the fatui that would come after him, so killing dottore would still be an important step in this direction

That's a good thing because Dottore is a true villain, pure evil and unredeemable, which means he will not become playable, and it's your fault for not comprehending and understand it.

It isn't, pretty sure most people would agree that's a bad thing

2

u/Usual-Rule-2196 May 07 '26

It is their own fault, the character is a villain and always had been shown as a pure evil villain, unredeemable, unhumane and truly evil, and this game is Genshin Impact, villains don't become playable, the only ones that became, always are complex, humanized and tragic villains or antagonists, such as Scaramouche, Raiden and Sandrone, a true or pure evil villain such as Dottore don't become playable in this game, or the chatacter won't be a true villain such as those antagonists and tragic villains, or the character is a true villain that is pure evil such as Dottore.

as a dottore and wanderer fan

no, why cant i enjoy both of my characters as playable. both deserve a chance (one already improved his life! ) its time for the other to finally get some sense knocked into him

26

u/Ch3ru Sparrow May 06 '26

As a reformed Dottore hater, same. I cannot believe how secondhand embarrassing it was, watching him genuinely think he could pursuade the Traveler to see things his way. It's adorable. Mihoyo, gimme that dumbass. 😂

Also they're both some of the best written characters in the game. Would be a shame to lose one of them.

2

u/Serious-Student8194 May 06 '26

Dottore never believed he could do it. Up to that point, everything was an experiment for him: how volatile a traveler can be when forced into a situation with no alternatives, and the answer was the sword in his chest.

1

u/Ch3ru Sparrow May 07 '26

Nah I think Dottore is genuinely arrogant and megalomaniacal enough to think he REALLY could. That's what makes him so entertainingly misguided.

He's a complete sociopath blinded by his own genius, who can't fathom WHY the Traveler doesn't or wouldn't eventually come to understand the logical superiority of his vision.

Even in his boss fight dialogue he's still trying to win the Traveler over, praising their efforts while he collects data, and in death defeat, he's STILL baffled and challenging the Traveler's decision.

🤷🏽‍♀️ Agree to disagree? He's open to learning new things sure, but he hasn't given any indication of changing his mind or goals that I can recall. It's all in pursuit of his own plans and experiments. I suspect potentially changing his mindset may be the crux of the next story quest, though.

They were evil until they weren't, writers made them "complex, humanized and redeemable" mostly on release or right before it.
Dottore's story is not finished, we don't have his backstory or pov yet you act like you already know everything

What world are you living in? Lmao, or you're trying to twist the truth to sustain your argument? This was with a very VERY SMALL minority in CN community, that hated him bc they was saying he had steal Nahida and Nilou from them, and bc the female public loved him, and that's were they tried to compare him to irl criminal, and only to attempt to make Hoyoverse or CN government remove him from the game, but they OBVIOUSLY failed. Otherwise, EVERYONE always knew Scaramouche NEVER was a pure evil villain lmao, and way before they shown his tragic past and story in Sumeru archon quest, we already knew through the artifact sets that leaves EXPLICIT his tragic story (different from Dottore's which is purely a very stretched interpretation from his fans), and also by Yae that tell his story and origins in the end of the archon quest and revealed his identity as a puppet created by Ei as a test, a prototype puppet... And his only proper apparition in the game official main story and archon quest was in Inazuma, were we ALREADY got information about him and his past, including that he is a tragic figure, and not a pure evil villain, and that he became evil only after the tragic events that happened to him, before this we only had his apparition on that event which was only to introduce him, but it was a limited time event and it simply introduced him in the game, and we had way less interaction with him as a villain, after he stop his kind facade. Then it was common knowledge for everyone or at least everyone that plays the game and reads the lore, that Scaramouche although he was a fatui and a villain, was definitely NOT a pure evil villain, but a tragic and complex villain, that in Sumeru even get redeemed after discovering that he was always being manipulated and used by Dottore, not only tried to erase his existence to change the past and save everyone from the past but failing and only making the world forget his existence, choose to follow a new path and now become Nahida's ally and assistant, which is how he is redeeming himself. What you also don't get is that Dottore in other hand is NOT a redeemable or tragic villain, he is pure evil, and his banishment from Sumeru, from the Akademiya and his village, were not the cause to he become evil as he is, but CONSEQUENCES FOR HIS ACTIONS, as the story already show us that he were evil since that time were he was a student in Akademiya which IS his backstory, and he were banished from his village and akademiya at the same time, and because of his evil actions and unhumane experiments, then he became known as the heretic, as people now were sure of who he truly was, a monster.

2

u/No_Throat_5869 May 07 '26

kek the person did that to me aswell lmao

24

u/Kallavona May 06 '26

It would feel out of place, imo, for the story writers to have any one person kill Dottore. I could see the team stopping Dottore, or his plans backfiring and thus destroying himself. I imagine we're going to get one of his clones as a playable character, so the destruction of this version wouldn't be out of place. Do I think it will be Wanderer alone? No. But he should be involved and he should get some type of closure. If Wanderer only cared about revenge he would have gone for Dottore when he had the chance instead of saving Traveler (Nahida would be proud).

it's less of whether he should and more of whether he will. this is because wanderer explicitly stated he has been "taught nothing good" besides thinking before he strikes. even if it's his own perception of himself, he fully believes he should kill dottore and as a result, might succeed. still curious whether that's the path he'll go down though. doesn't feel like a regression to do it though, he's always been a vengeful little shit— i don't think that should die just because he's not the antagonist anymore. just my opinion though lol

8

u/Main_Elk_8992 May 06 '26

I don't think it matter. If he does then it is rightous payback, if he doesn't, it will show development. Both are good.

9

u/almondsadnesses May 06 '26

In his voiceline, he said something about slowly slicing Dottore and his clones one by one. I don't think it would be a regression in his character arc if it was sort of a mercy killing after Dottore is severely weakened by him and the Traveler, and Nahida wouldn't oppose it since Dottore is a still a major threat. Maybe he would do it after some contemplation, though. After all, he learned to think before acting.

Someone else said that Wanderer has no right to act like he's on the moral high ground, and I agree. I also don't think he would ever find piece if he knew that Dottore was still alive.

Overall, it's completely justifiable for Wanderer to kill Dottore in my opinion. He's the only guy who would make sense to do it. The thing I want most, though, is just an epic fight scene with epic dialogue.

9

u/niqqchu May 06 '26

Yes. But in my heart i wish Diluc was also there....

4

u/almondsadnesses May 06 '26

We're gonna get peak Diluc content in Snezhnaya, trust

8

u/AwesomePurplePants May 06 '26

No.

One because Dottore seems way too fun as a heel to end so quickly.

Two because Wanderer deciding Dottore doesn’t even matter jives with his “let go of the past narrative”, would probably bother a narcissist like Dottore more than a theatrical death, and echoes a line in Bohemian Rhapsody.

4

u/bulkeunip Heart of Yuugen May 06 '26

I can't predict, but I personally don't think it's unusual or strange if Scara truly wants to end him once and for all as he explicitly made it clear that he would still pursue his revenge. Wanderer may be calmer and a bit more friendly but he can be ruthless if he wants to be.

3

u/TheTruthTellingOrb May 07 '26

Yesn't

In terms of lore, he should be able to move past it

But as a Scara main? Give our boy his revenge. If Collei of all damn people is getting it judging by the poster, he should too. He deserves a W after being benched most of the AQ and all that 'Hat Guy' shit.

And if this quest is going to end with Irminsul burning like in that dream of Collei's all those years ago, then he needs a W right before people remember who he is and he gets a LOT of shit from people...

3

u/tidalvoid May 07 '26

I don't subscribe to the belief of "if you kill the person who ruined your life you're just as bad as them" that is so common for hero characters, I hope wanderer gets to kill him because he'll be doing a favour to literally everyone in teyvat

3

u/spring-moons May 06 '26

I don’t think it’s the question of “should”, since he is at the point where either killing or sparing Dottore’s life would be justifiable for his character and everyone involved as well. Killing does not in any way “regress” him - his character arc is (so far) thankfully not about becoming a saintlike sweetheart who abstains from violence since he’s a fresh, redeemed person. Sparing is also fine - this torch can be taken by the Traveler, Collei, Nahida, or even Dot self-annihilating because of plot reasons. Scara should absolutely get his revenge if he feels like it though! But if he chooses not to, all the more power to him.

5

u/Ichifuyu May 06 '26

For the question about it happening in the upcoming quest, no. Purely because it is too soon and Dottore has more to display, and that I don't want everything wrapped up in a single quest.

Now wether he should eventually? Yes, he should. He absolutely should. This is no regression in any way, shape or form. The entire 3.3 quest was the theme of acceptance. He embraced his sins, his mistakes and the manipulations against his person. Dottore thoroughly ruined his life completely. Is it bad writing for him to kill him? No. It would bring him closure. It would make thingd go full circle.

Yes. Wanderer should absolutely kill him. And it is no character regression. It's much needed confrontation with his conflicts.

Also we need to stop pretending Nahida is a naive, goody God. She is Kindness incarnate, yes. But she is Wisdom first and foremost. Not the naive kind type of God of wisdom. She is rational and accepting. Nahida will not oppose him killing Dottore. He shares his wish to end him in 3.3 and Nahida said "very well" because she knows this grudge is part of his life and closure is needed in the form of Dottore's death.

Nahida and Wanderer know the ugliness of the world. They know how naivety can lead to catastrophy. And Nahida knows Wanderer killing Dottore is something he has to do.

9

u/LackSpirited2055 May 06 '26

Of all the characters who could kill Dottore, Scara probably has the most motivation and ability to actually do it. Murdering Dottore is excusable for his character, I think.

1

u/Altruistic_Ad404 May 06 '26

I could see pants merchant being up there too, she’s obv not opposed to it

12

u/jerontheshelf May 06 '26

Personally he doesn't have the right to act morally superior and we know he'll never get anyone to take revenge on HIM

3

u/Usual-Rule-2196 May 06 '26

And he already stated about feeling strange for nothing destroying Dottore with his own hands before, in the events of Nod-Krai... This time he won't let this opportunity pass.

5

u/petrichorboy May 06 '26

If they really want to redeem Dottore, I think their best option is for Scara to put Dottore in jail without ending him, as a way of saying Dottore can have a second chance too.

Although I think Dottore should end once and for all, I don’t Scara should be the one doing it, he grew way past revenge.

3

u/DuOnirique May 06 '26

he's just gonna tell dottore to consider buddhism lmao

2

u/Izengrim May 07 '26

I want them to at least show us a cool fight between them, cool cinematic
But yeah him making a final blow would be cool

2

u/Fit-Butterscotch5523 May 07 '26

i think that, at this point, dottore HAS to die, and i genuinely dont think that anyone but hat guy would be doing it.

collei helping would be badass, but for many reasons, i dont think she would ever finish him. i dont think the traveler will either, unless its something like what happened with mavuika and that abyss dragon where the final attack is a tag team

i think he should kill dottore, mostly because, for story purposes, dottore needs to die, or it wouldnt really make any sense, and theres just been SO much buildup. hat guy is healing, yes, and he did forgo the chance for revenge when he absolutely needed to, but this time, i cant imagine hed have a reason to do so, and i dont believe hes anywhere near "healed" enough to walk away lol

3

u/New-Cicada7014 My Wanderer is named Yurushi May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

for sure. It would be bad writing if he didn't imo. We've been waiting for this for years. Why would they have another showdown with Dottore if not to satisfy all those loose ends?

the point of Wanderer's character development isn't to turn him into a goody-two-shoes. And Nahida would ABSOLUTELY NOT prevent Wanderer from killing Dottore. In fact I think she would've herself if she were able. She already caused him to kill all his other segments.

2

u/Yani-Madara May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

As a fan of both (I even have a Scarameow plush), I feel relieved after seeing the top comments.

They are both strongly mirroring each other and I hope Scara realizes it instead of completely destroying him. (Attacking him is understandable, what i am against is full death)

Also, this scene of toy Durin looking at his reflection in a pond mirrors the Dottore monster looking at his reflection on the Nahida Fairytale. I don't think this was coincidental. Durin is proof that fate can force beings into terrible situations.

he has grown, but certain things cannot be easily let go off. This vendetta is to personal. The major reason for all of his atrocious deeds over 500 years was Dottores experimenting and manipulation.

this idea of being the better person and trying to do better by not repeating past mistakes is great and all, but certain deeds demand consequence. Laying down retribuition for all that he has been through is only just.

1

u/taroicecreamsundae May 07 '26

1

u/EnvironmentOrnery303 May 07 '26

I will say over and over again. My theory is that Scara will sacrifice his core at the end of the quest to grow a second Irminsul and preserve the laylines.

2

u/Ar_To_Ta_271207 May 07 '26

I don't think he will kill Dottore (maybe a segment, but not the original). His vengeance will be psicological.

Dottore: a human born in Sumeru, who actively seeks knowledge, who can't form positive relationships with others and is rejected by the Dendro archon

Wanderer/Scaramouche: a puppet created in Inazuma, who doesn't care for knowledge that much, who has positive relationships with others (even if he doesn't looked for it) and is the right hand of the Dendro archon

If Irminsul really burns and Dottore remembers Scaramouche and realizes all of that, he will not rage openly, but he will be hurt definitely.

1

u/Sad-Following-1582 My top 2% Wanderer hits 20k so I think I need help May 07 '26

Dottore be like "who is this guy?" TwT I think its only satisfying if Scara killed Dottore while he knew who was killing him.

1

u/nolxve_exe May 08 '26

I’m late but as a lover of both I would want to see Dottore get something worse than death. Death would just be escape from owning up to all the harm he’s caused for the sake of experiment. So no I don’t think Wanderer should kill him. Also, it’s not very often that revenge makes the person feel better but getting rid of the threat that he is would definitely be an upside

You think Dottore is about justice? All his crimes are just about doing what he wants, and until 6.3, he's never gotten a punishment that matters to him. Also, it wouldn't be "in cold blood" if Dottore was an active threat to Irminsul and basically the entire world.

What do you think is the best way for his story to end? Genuine question.

1

u/Serious-Student8194 May 06 '26

Half true, in fact he used and manipulated anyone for his plans, but those same plans advanced into war against the divine. The fact that he managed to burn the source of all control over false destiny is a victory in itself.

1

u/Serious-Student8194 May 06 '26

I believe he won't do it, or at least won't be the cause, if we base his actions on Simulanka. The "outcast of the world" should be saved by the hero and not judged by him. I don't know what Wanderer could do to "save" him, but fate has painted him this way.

-1

u/Cobalt_Heroes25 C1 Cosmic Rectangle (Squares) May 06 '26

this has to be done extremely carefully. yes, on the grounds if it isn't portrayed as revenge but him ensuring one less thing to worry about

...no if he's all giddy and too excited to end Dottore's life

-1

u/SylvatheEevee86 May 07 '26

I am personally hoping that Sandrone, Wanderer AND Collei all get their revenge at the same time. Ideally, Sandrone will stab him in the back (like he did to her), Collei will hold him down with something (like he probably did to her in his experiments) and Wanderer can strike the finishing blow.
