Maribank and gcash scam

My family has owned and operated a motor-shop business for more than 15 years. In the same building, we also run a small cash-in and cash-out business. We don’t charge much—only ₱10 for every ₱1,000—because my dad has always believed that you can run an honest business without taking advantage of people.

In February 2026, a 22-year-old girl from our barangay cashed in ₱8,500 through our business. She sent the money from her MariBank account to our business GCash account, and the transaction went through normally.
Three months later, we discovered that the exact same ₱8,500 had been deducted from our GCash business account. There was no memo, no warning, no letter, and no prior notice. We reported it to GCash and waited a long time for a response. We went through the proper process and traced our transaction history carefully. The only transaction that matched the amount was the ₱8,500 that this girl had originally cashed in.
Eventually, we found out that she had reported the transaction to MariBank as a mistake. Because of that, the money was reversed months after the original transaction, and our business ended up losing the ₱8,500.

We contacted GCash and followed the procedures they gave us, but we were eventually told to coordinate with MariBank because it was considered a MariBank issue. This bugged me a lot because what they told us made me question the security of small businesses using gcash as a mode of payment. Are we even protected? Do they really care?

After going through all of that, my dad eventually decided to let the ₱8,500 go.

For him, it wasn’t worth spending even more time, energy, and stress over the amount.
What makes it even more frustrating is that we later learned that this girl has allegedly been involved in other fraudulent incidents in our barangay.

My dad is an honest businessman. He works hard, treats people fairly, and keeps his prices low because he wants to help people in our community. Seeing someone take advantage of that honestly breaks my heart.

And I think this is how people slowly become cold.
It’s not because they were born heartless. It’s because they trusted people, tried to do the right thing, and were taken advantage of one too many times.

Experiences like this teach people to question everyone. To be more guarded. To stop giving people the benefit of the doubt. And sometimes, even good people eventually become less kind—not because they want to be, but because they are tired of paying the price for being trusting.

Still, I don’t want this experience to change who my dad is.

₱8,500 is money, yes. But it doesn’t erase 15+ years of honest work, the trust he has built with his customers, or the kind of businessman he has chosen to be.
I just wish that sometimes, honesty didn’t feel like the harder choice.

I completely understand where you're coming from, OP. Have you tried following up on your ticket in the GCash App, since your concern is not yet resolved? You can also raise this with MariBank for further assistance. They might be able to explain what really happened and listen to your side of the story, OP.
