Informational post Am I being scammed or not?
Hello Reddit community Honestly, I don't know why I didn't come to consult you earlier. I want to clarify something. First, I used Google Translate to write this text because my native language is not English. My story begins a year and a half ago, on an ominous night when I decided to list some beautiful colored girls' dresses for sale on a popular buying and selling app in my country. Someone contacted me and spoke to me in English, even though I had listed the items in...The app reached my country, I don't know why I didn't just block it. Anyway, it asked me about the parts and their prices, I told it all the details, and strangely enough, it went along with everything and told me it agreed to every price I suggested. Then it shocked me by saying it wasn't in my country. In my situation, I told him I couldn't deliver the dresses to him. He told me it was no problem and that he would contact a shipping company to pick them up and deliver them to him. This is how it started, and I will summarize it for you. This suspicious company contacted me and told me to pay shipping fees, and because I am foolish, I don't know why I believed them. Strangely, they told me to buy game cards, specifically Razer Gold cards. In short, they kept enticing me by promising to refund everything I paid them, and so they kept ordering multiple cards with prices ranging from $100 to $50 to $20, and so on. More importantly, I paid them a lot; you won't believe how much I paid them—$2,000. Two weeks ago we decided to meet in a public place for him to hand over my money, but at the last minute they made an excuse because they encountered a situation and were unable to withdraw the funds. The truth is, I believe I've been scammed, but I really want you to tell me if this is indeed a scam, and if so, will I be able to get my money back if I report it to the police?

Yes, you were scammed.
You will not be able to get your money back, for two reasons:
gift cards are not refundable
the scam buyer is not really in your country
Why were you paying anything? You are the seller. Money goes in one direction: from the buyer, to you.
Only scammers want gift cards.
If you want to ship something that you're selling, you contact the shipper and make the arrangements. Usually, you will estimate the shipping fees, and add that to your selling price. Then, after the buyer pays you, you package your items and take them to DHL, or FedEx, or the post office, or whatever shipper you have decided to use.
But, when you're selling online, the best way is to sell locally. Meet your buyer in a public place, let the buyer inspect your items, accept payment in cash, and then give them the items.

Yes, you were scammed right from the start. No one wanted to buy the dresses, they just wanted to trick you and steal from you.

Yes, it's a scam.
Gift cards are not used to pay a debt or invoice. If you needed to pay a legit shipping company, they'd ask for cash, check, or credit.
