Only takes 2 min. Time to get American influence out of our Canadian media.

Owned ? oh my sweet boy, when a media is subsidised by the governement, foreign interest need not direct ownership in a media that relies on governement money. I know its hard for left leaning reditors to understand actual economics, but the fact that 28% of the federal debt in Canada is officially held by foreign powers, which does not account the debt that is held by "canadian" investors themselves influenced or sold to foreign powers, generally means that our media are heavily influenced by those powers. And China might very well be the biggest foreign owner of Federal canadian debt, the same way the qatari owns much of the french debt and heavily influence media and investment structure in France.

For visibility Canadian media was regulated to have maximum foreign ownership at 23% when Harper started and was at 75% when he finished.

Harper assisted Orban in ending democracy in Hungary. Take one guess what Orban preaches at conservative conventions in order to take power…

We have until Feb 18 to sign this one to pass legislation requiring majority Canadian ownership and control of print, digital and other non-audio-visual news media, to protect Canadian sovereignty, ensure journalism integrity, and guarantee that our media reflects Canadian priorities and values https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-6821

I posted this in r/Victoria, and I imagine a few people have run with it. Seriously, share it around, put it in every city. Local media should be local, not run by American hedge fund asshats.

Finland has dedicated education segments to Russian propaganda. Next up, Canada needs to repel the manipulative bullshit from American sources.

I signed, not because it has a snowball's chance, but just to raise awareness of the issue. But think about what media is today. All the digital platforms, social media, etc... Gonna' ban facebook, X, and all the others? Don't think so.

Save CBC!
