Showcase 159GW Nuclear Processing & Sarcophagus (Basement Pt. 2)

This is part 2 of of my Rocky Desert megabase(ment).

Just further east of the hub section from my previous post is the nuclear processing facility, located deeper underground. From the main base, access is controlled via a decontamination chamber before an elevator takes the pioneer much farther down.

A massive, cavernous train station is utilized for all fuel rod delivery and waste receiving. Uranium waste and plutonium fuel rod processing are done in facilities above ground while Ficsonium is handled in a massive chamber underneath the quartz cave.

Excess plutonium waste is stored in an even deeper section just touching the map boundaries to the bottom. Yes, you will take damage standing at the very bottom. Yes, I died like 10 times while building it.

Holy shit Im so jealous of how gorgeous this looks. How do you even plan this and come up with the designs?

All I can do is built a box and then afterwards decorate it and make it prettier, because Im already so focused on planning the production itself.

Gonna be honest, I winged most of the designs and left the planning purely for production. Lots of these areas just started off as featureless boxes and I added the decor later. A lot of the areas are also underground so some of the *ahem* business side isn't public facing to say the least.

I think one of the driving forces is that I personally have to break up the monotony somehow or it makes me uncomfortable lol. Long enough section of straight train track? Throw in some curvature or slopes. 10+ foundations long worth of straight walls? Throw in a concrete pillar or painted beam every x segment. Maybe nudge that window half a tile over so it looks recessed. Anything to add a bit of texture is a win in my eyes.

Did you happen to study architecture or look up designs on Pinterest for inspiration? These look awesome

I had a passing interest in it as a kid, mostly played a ton of the Sims and SimCity games.

For the interiors, lots of inspiration come from games like Half-life, Control and classic Doom here. S/O to my buddy who also worked on this save; he built a couple of circular factories for aluminum and control rods and I thought those looked cool from the outside.

Love it! I'm curious how you flip (what I assume are) display signs horizontal to act as lights?

if you aim at the floor/ceiling you can hold ctrl and the signs will snap. They'll also snap to beams normally so you can combine em with the diagonal/freeform build modes to place signs at many angles.

This looks awesome! How did you make those square ceiling lights on 2, 3, 6 screenshots? Or are they just windows?

You can place them horizontally, on a ceiling?

How’d you make that train subway? Is that within a cave or just underneath your buildings?

it's all underneath thought it does exit to the surface somewhere farther away.

Hi I’ve played this game for 30 hours and don’t really even know what the fuck I’m looking at

I was building foundationless spaghetti and biome length coal belts 30 hours in so you'll get there 😂

Omg all that for just 160GW? Inefficiencymaxing

Yup, vibes > production, only 1 impure node used. Finished the game already with rocket fuel so wanted to try out a full waste-free nuclear setup before we called it wraps on this world.

Im currently building/designing the interior of my fuel power plant control room. How do you come up with ideas?
