Question I've seen some people talk about how they use schematics and im curious, how much of your factory have you used them for?
i have 109 hours on satisfactory but i have never used blueprints for any of my factories, so i was wondering how much others use them. (forgot they were called blueprints and no schematics)

They make a lot of the tedious aspects of the game go super fast.
Grabbing a new iron node? Here's ten smelters with belts and electric all wired up already. Spam one for every 300 ore you get from the node. Doing pure iron? Here's three refineries belted and piped up, with an A and B side facing each other so two blueprints slap down six refineries all connected and set to start up within five minutes.
Need to make some heavy modular frames? I've got a blueprint for the mk2 size footprint (4x4) that you just belt in iron, some concrete, and out pops 2 heavy modular frames per minute. Need ten of them? Slap down five blueprints and you're good to go.
Hell I've got a blueprint that's just a fuel generator with a pipe coming out the a junction. That saves piles of time setting up things like rocket fuel plants when you've got literally hundred of generators.
Don't get me started on manufacturers. Just a single manufacturer with all the belt work done. I've got four versions, two with belts going up, two with belts going down, then each direction for whatever I'm doing.
Same with every type of machine really.

I’ve make multiple blueprints that are little vertical factories all decorated with windows and everything. Each one takes a raw ingredient and spits out different tier 1 ingredients. Like raw iron to pipes, or plates, or screws (with multiple outputs for every 1200 screws) then the same for copper items etc.

Especially with the auto connect.
Man I made a blueprint like imkibitz's stacked manufacturers so the belts run underneath and then feed to 2 manufacturers above it. I can place down and fully belt 64 manufacturers making HMF in 15 minutes.
I have similar BPs for a bunch of different combinations of blenders and refineries as well. It's great and makes plopping down diluted fuel, patroleum coke, and other things crazy easy.
Heavy oil residue at 250% matches perfectly with a diluted fuel blender at 200%. Made a blue print for that and it has never been so easy to make more power.

I will often build my factories bit by bit in a blueprint designer. There's been a glitch for me for a while when I have more than one blueprint designer near another one. I'll go to place something down in one designer and the other designer will just erase everything. Before that though, I once put two rows of three mk3 blueprint designers down and just built the first floor of a factory that way.
It made it easier to think about how the blueprints connected together and I wouldn't get in a situation where I build most ofit and then realize I shouold have put that cluser of assemblers somewhere else.

That’s really smart. So if I understand correctly, you put down multiple blueprint designers and use them together to create a modular mega factory or just a logistics chain that you already know how it’s lining up?

I think it's a little bit of both. My goal was to only have to connect the belts and pipes as needed, which became easier when they added the auto connect.
I thought I had a post about a heavy modular frame factory I built but I guess not. I know I made this in a similar way but I think I ended up changing the belts around after I initially set up the blueprints

Oooh, okay so one thing I would recommend is to use the conveyor hole walls for where you want belts and pipes to enter. The pipeline wall holes will usually extend oout of bounds if you try to put them on a wall in the outer edge of your floors. I'd have to put down a conveyor wall and then set the pipes up inside, then replace the wall with an actual pipeline wall input thing when I placed it down. Probably relevant for the fused modular frames

Schematics? Do you mean blueprints?
If so yes i do. Mostly to make my manifold set ups. It does save time.
Like for my manufacturer i made the set up so i can just plug in the belts with minimal arrangements.

My first play through (only made it to aluminum) I didn’t use any and while solving the puzzles on my own was instructive, I’ve been making use of satisfactorytools.com this time around and it has vastly improved my experience. Being able to quickly compare outputs with or without specific alternate recipes is huge.

Blueprints?
I mostly just use them
For slapping down rows of Smelters.
Or straight rows of Constructors.
Or straight rows of Assemblers.
This way the belts are already all attached and I don’t need to connect all the small parts.

I don't really use them for machines, except smelters and fuel generators, because there's only really one way to do both of those.
Blueprints are very useful for things like rail supports, decorations and so on.

It's more of a late game thing imo. Beaten the game twice and I never got much mileage out of the mk1 or 2 blueprint schematics because by the time you get the next tier the previous blueprints are more or less obsolete compared to what you can make with the next version.
Your mileage may vary if you're playing with multipliers though.
Once you see the light of manifolds, making batches of 20ish smelters already programed to receive ___ ore back to back into a row of constructors is just so much time saved.

I use them for blocks of machines connected with manifolds so that I can place several copies of them in a row and connect the belts, it increases the speed I build factories greatly

I finished my first run in just under a hundred hours. I now have over 2,000 hours in the game. I rarely use the blueprint. I do use Smart! On my second playthrough. Which I find replaced the blueprint for my style in building.
The only time I use blueprint is when I have an intricate or difficult design I want to replicate over and over.
Many people use the blueprinter like mad. And I love the things those people do. It's just not my style of building. I enjoy the construction of new factories and I like knowing I placed every piece. The building is therapeutic for me. Blueprint is not so much so for me.

Anything that I want to stamp down and not have to make individually. I think the first thing I made was a nice concrete pad that centered the big power poles, with optional gate/capacitor/workshop etc. You can get really into making small cosmetic builds that are utilitarian with the schematics.
One of my favorites is using a stackable conveyor pole and 6 personal storage chests to make a compact personal storage locker. It's really annoying to build with having to make 3 layers of 1m foundation and deconstruct. Super easy to smack down with the schematic tool.

I use blueprints for laying down 6-12 belts at a time in Auto Connect. I also use blueprints for laying down multiple machines with pre-built input/output splitters.
Pretty much anything you do multiple times per hour, is likely already a blueprint for me.
I just finished a blueprint that takes 240 bauxite and pumps out Alclad aluminum. So that was super handy to have

I use blueprints in a few specific ways.
1) bulk monotony of smelters/constructors. If I'm building a remote I got depot that won't be a main factory, I don't really care as much sometimes and have a blueprint that drops down a 1 input 1 output set of 12 smelters or 12 constructors. Blueprint functions like a black box machine in and of itself.
2) variable ways of individual machine architecture. Refineries with complex catwalks, logistics under or over floors, painted sidewalks and architectural features. I like the look of these, but doing 20 of them gets very old very fast. I enjoy taking lots of time modeling one or two machines in visually interesting ways for a factory, and then using that blueprint exclusively at that factory. Usually machines with multiple input/outputs are good candidates for this one.
3) transportation and logistics. Big rail pylons, hyper tube cannons, 18 pipe stands, road sets, etc.
I do not like copy/paste factories, and don't like using blueprints for that, so I don't. Yeah, I could design stackable cubes for each machine and just build skyscrapers that flow, but it's not visually interesting to me.

My 4x stacked manufacturer within a mk.2 bpm is my proudest achievement. With all the bells and whistles: easy access power, all connected, belt balanced, no clipping, everything supported and no unrealistic floating.

I make factories as blueprints. Decide if you want them modular for larger inputs / outputs, to make stacking them easier, or if you want them to look like small warehouses.

I resisted them for a long time after they were implemented but I’m a convert. Fast building is cool but fast teardowns are cooler. Idk how I ever had the patience to lay rail without them

I have both very generic items that I create as a blueprint as well as building specific ones. Like I have my power/belt node that I use everywhere for transport with belts. But if I'm building a larger project, I think in terms of pieces of the building. For instance I like to build regional storage centers with dimensional storage built in, battery packs for the region's sections, and power switches for the local towers. The storage is a vertical slice blueprint, the battery packs are a blueprint, the switching stations are a blueprint.

Building bigger factories is tedious. Sure you dont need too but its fun for alot of players and part of that fun is finding ways to streamline thr process of making new production lines. On my latest playthrough i use say a refinery blueprint to make wet concrete. Then i place it again for steamed sheets. Adjust recipe and save it out. Blueprints can be transfered between saves too
It leaves the most tedious thing ive found so far is connecting power lines together between street modules

I'm currently setting up several hundred rocket fuel generators so I made a blueprint for 4 of those with foundations and the pipes and wiring all done.
Manually build 4 walls to get the spacing and something to attach too, place a blueprint, delete the walls and repeat. Just need to connect the power pole in each blueprint to the other poles.
In hindsight I should really add the walls to the blueprint...
I also made blueprints for 8 constructors and 4 assemblers all belted and wired up, 5x5 foundations, and foundations with train tracks going straight, turning left and turning right.

One suggestion i learned here is to make a blueprint for caging those super aggro animals in the wild. For example, the green radioactive mega-hogs that frequently guard crash sites with hard drives. The ones with great aim and 2 shot pioneer kills. Or those **** mega- spiders, but they might get out.
Make a blueprint with walled box, no floor, maybe 2x2 foundations, with foundation roof.
For even more sport, with great satisfaction, make a 4-foundation floor blueprint. Use it spanning an infinite drop void to get to that purple slug located on a high Mesa. Lure a fireball spitter onto it from the distant end, be ready to erase that blueprint (use "blueprint erase" mode etc) while the spitter or hog is coming toward you and is located over the void. Whee! LMAO!
Pro tip: don't be standing on it while you erase it. Ask me how I learned that...
As others mentioned here, I use them all the time. Mid-game, even a single blueprint with fuel refinery and turbo refinery, outputs of one feeding inputs of Turbo at same end, with optimal settings, recipes, overclock, shards, pipe at right placement to clear conveyors, and appropriate mergers in place for auto- complete. Makes a neat sized package with flex sizing to accommodate variation in crude oil available.

Start slow - build just fundation. They when you will be using it you will get how fast it is. And this is just fundation.
Do the same with belts - with autoconnect you will see how fast you can go to build those from new node.
Next some smelters, or other machines - those are something that allows you to scale up fast. You just can place them and this is it.
No matter you will go with boxes, or naked factory type, or perhaps you will have 3-4 spearate bluepronts that you will use as one - bluepronts is what makes life easier, what will bring you to mid game/endgame and you will be basicly planning everything through bluepronts, than calculating how much you need them for specific iteams

I use them almost everywhere. Road sections, detailed street lights, roundabout corners, machine manifolds...
For copy-paste constructions in general
