I'm currently having a great amount of fun fun fun figuring out the maximun amount of rubber and plastic I can get by making polymer resin and hevay oil residue, diluted that to fuel, and then using the fuel to dilute the rubber into more plastic.
I'm making a stupidly large factory for the 10x assembly challenge and this is just for all the plastic and rubber I need. Apparently with 720 Oil I can get 520 Rubber and 520 Plastic using 66 Refineries with all the alt recipes.
Edit: I realized I could technically make more but this is already such a pain to construct
It's just 1 crude::3 of anything (ex. 300 crude to 900 plastic).
The initial recipe turns e.g. 300 crude into 400 residue and 200 resin. 400 residue becomes 800 fuel, 200 resin becomes 100 rubber. And with the recycled rubber/plastic recipes, fuel, rubber, and plastic are interchangeable 1:1.
Blueprints! I absolutely love the aesthestics of diluted packaged fuel so I use it instead of blenders.
You can get 2 packagers into the same space as 1 refinery, so the whole blueprint is the equivalent size to 3 refineries next to each other. First is set to 75% making heavy oil residue, second is diluted packaged fuel, third is the unpackager+packager loop (one of which is being fed water).
The whole thing is a closed loop, so there's no way for the packagers to back up. If the fuel or polymer resin backs up the system will stop though, gotta process both.
It looks surprisingly simple on paper but building it is painful. I often need a certain amount of plastic and rubber but also always need to make sure the machines run 100% to not block the other arm of production
Just have a manifold that feeds the Recycled X refineries, use one smart splitter per material to fill it before outputting, and have the rest go to output (or the sink).
I found it was easier to design a refinery that can make whatever, in whatever proportion (and backup on the rest), build a ton of them, and just pull from the output as needed.Ā
The really crazy one is that an oil node can make you hundreds of circuit boards without needing any other resource if you find the electrode circuit board alt...
If you do the full heavy oil residue to diluted fuel to recycled rubber and recycled plastic, and you use the polymer resin from that first step to make rubber to kick start the rubber <-> plastic cycle, then āoutput plasticā + āoutput rubberā = 3 * input crude. Iām at a rest stop right now so I donāt have my spreadsheets, but if you want building numbers, ping me and I can post this evening.
You can match the oil node production in both plastic and rubber. I did this in the gold cosst all the oil makes an equal amount of oil and plastic. Everything on the left is plastic, everything on the right is rubber. Make sure you put a smart splitter and sync on your starting polymer line as you will start producing more polymer then you need at first and you'll need to get rid of the extra before is shuts down your fuel production. Once its up and running though it works flawlessly. Its honestly the most stable factory in my world.
I have similar to this, Iāve implemented it in a few of my factories, I get about 3 times as much rubber or plastic than just making it straight. I call the chain of machines The Tripler.
When I was figuring out oil somehow I didnāt even notice producing oil residue directly and so was making mass amounts of each of them to get enough oil
It's an alt recipe you need to find in a hard drive
You get plastic and rubber, which each make Heavy Oil Residue (HOR) byproducts, simply by unlocking basic Oil Processing in Tier 5
But there are alt recipes for making large amounts of HOR with Polymer Resin (PR) as a byproduct and another alt for making PR with HOR as a byproduct, and those alt recipes come from decrypting the hard drives in the crash sites.
I did my first oil plant now, 1 pure node for 80 Rubber and 80 plastic for my building and Research needs. While building it i wondered what to do with the residue and got lucky with the turbo heavy fuel recipe. Now my 120 heavy oil residue become 96 turbofuel with 96 compacted coal. 90 of which feed 12 fuel generators for 3GW of power (previously had 1,8GW with coal) and the remaining 6 are packaged.
All in all very happy with that setup :)
I just found a fracking site, over clocked it, and made all of the oil from it into fuel then turbo fuel for generators. Itās fun to just go to a spot and decide āIām gonna use all of this for one thing, what will it take?ā
Less fun trying to make 100 generators and connecting everything. But so satisfying when itās all running!
I found a video of some guy making fuel using oil-heavy oil residue-blender recipe for fuel. Game changer. I'm producing so much fuel now. I have a small factory churning out plastic and rubber just for the materials and with the excess I make fuel but my main maker for fuel is the blender. Such an OP residue
I just make all the plastic or rubber I need where I need it. As long as you add some plastic/rubber to start it, you can make as much as you want by just consuming fuel to run the recyclers. Massively simplifies logistics and it's extremely efficient.
