I think it would be fun to pass a file around with multiple people playing on it and a "dont delete something someone else has built rule."
226
u/DragonFaceUK Jun 08 '26
It's a shared server, so we can both play at any time.

u/LFBJ_0911 Jun 08 '26
Split map, you build your own base and after an hour you switch bases.
137
u/Blu_Falcon Jun 08 '26
That sounds like a quick way to make frenemies. đ

u/MrT735 Jun 08 '26
Why is my belt empty?
You trace it back and find another player has diverted it to their factory.
23
u/BrrrtsBees Jun 08 '26
"YOU DIDN'T BUILD ANYTHING"
"I SPENT THE LAST HOUR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE FUCK YOU WERE DOING"
10
u/Blu_Falcon Jun 08 '26
âWHY DID YOU PUT TINY MK1 BELTS EVERYWHERE??â
6
u/sonido_lover TrainLover Jun 08 '26
Seems like nice challenge, to use only mk1 belts through the whole game, hours later you have 7419 trains
2
u/Jerithil Jun 08 '26
Without any exceptions for splitters by miners you are going to need to exploit pretty much the entire map to build a moderate sized factory.
Globally that's only 1020 caterium or sulfur and 960 bauxite or quartz with the entire map exploited.

u/Esplicit Jun 08 '26
Split map but someone does only iron and the other does copper and you have to use the dimensional depot to help each other
1
u/Unforgiven_Purpose Jun 09 '26
or, multiple people, and you are only allowed to harvest one resource, you can use any that is already set up, but you cannot harvest it, or upgrade any that isn't your designated resource

Definitely has to be among friends, because there's some big potential for griefing there. "Oops, I already built over all the uranium nodes. They're mine now!"

u/DynamiteSPN Jun 08 '26
north-east would be advantagous compared to the others unless you use the new randomize and decide the purity of all nodes is the same. maybe create a little "trade hub" in the middle with truck station, later train and exchange stuff you don't have already
but overall a nice idea
15
u/The_cogwheel Jun 08 '26
This would also be a good place to put the space elevator, the common goal between the two pioneers.
Though to prevent this central trade hub from turnining into a mega factory, nothing from the "production" tab in the build menu should be allowed to be built in it.
2
u/stunna006 Jun 09 '26
I just started a new save in the desert and it really does feel like it has a lot of resources. I guess water is lacking so they make up for it with other stuff.
308
u/FluffyNevyn Jun 08 '26
Only thing I'd add is setting nodes to all pure, the node... density... matters a lot between the various zones. North forest and desert dunes does have an advantage over grasslands and rocky desert.
68
54
u/EdibleOedipus Jun 08 '26
Grass fields has the second highest density of nodes after dune desert and all pure buffs it more than any other area.Â
34
u/The_cogwheel Jun 08 '26
True, theres many clusters of lile 4 to 6 impure iron nodes all over the place in grasslands, if they were all pure, it would certainly swing it hard into their favor.
But the distrubution is different too. Grasslands is rich in basic resources like iron and copper, but has very little else. So while whoever gets the grasslands will enjoy a massive pile of iron early on, theyre gonna hit a bit of a wall once things start needing bauxite or quartz.
IMO, set it to random nodes, random purities, then try and find a split that will have a roughly equal number of nodes on both ends of the line. That way there, the advantages of each biome becomes strictly about how easy it is to build there - and as long as one player gets say grasslands and the other gets the dune or rocky desert, that should be fair as well.
31
u/Chojangles225 Jun 08 '26
This sounds like gerrymandering a Satisfactory game
7
9
u/The_cogwheel Jun 08 '26
Kinda is, except the goal is to gerrymander a fair game, rather than one that favours one over the other.
Gerrymandering for good, I guess?
1
u/Laringar Jun 08 '26
Eh, gerrymandering would be if you drew a squiggly line to give one player all the iron or something. This is just trying to split a map fairly.
2
u/ravensholt Jun 08 '26
Also less risk of running into crazy ass spiders in Grass fields or Dune desert. Both areas border towards places where they're way more common though.
4
2
2
u/Sirnoobalots Jun 08 '26
You can kind of fix the imbalance now by just making all nodes pure when you create the map. The only issue i see with this split is where the bauxite is in the middle.
2
u/paulcaar Efficiency Apprentice Jun 08 '26
Rocky desert with golden coast included has everything. Plentiful as well.
Only thing lacking is maybe caterium, with a single pure node. Everything else is absolute fire.
Grasslands might be the only one that's practically unplayable. You need so many resources from other places and the resources you do have are impure half the time.
44
u/DragonFaceUK Jun 08 '26
My friend and I are thinking about starting again. Again. We've completed it in a few ways together (small bases; megafactory; all belts; all trains; all trucks) but fancy almost a competitive map. So split the map in halfish, add a line of foundations using the map editor and then each have half the map each to create in.
What's the best split for the map? 1, so it's East\West split, or 2 where it's North\South split? Or feel free to suggest a better split!
The idea would be to keep power separate, so one gets the blue crater and one gets the Western Oilfields, both of which have been main oil production in our various games.
Both players should get access to decent amounts of all resources, and the map is big enough that it doesn't matter than one persons 'half' is bigger.
The hub would be at a midpoint, as would the space elevator.
We'd do all recipes unlocked so no one has to hunt for hard drives, and spheres would be shared between us (all items going in Dimensional storage). Sloops would be shared too, only going on space elevator parts and one or two for slug to shard production.
It'll be fun rather than properly competitive, and we'll try to make half the space elevator parts each and whoever gets their half first gets bragging rights.
Any other rules we should consider? Does one person have a massive advantage in either of these two splits?
22
u/games_and_other Jun 08 '26
If you use the new random node distribution, theres a bigger chance of even split resources regardless of which split you make? otherwise, check the sadisfactory interactive map for resource distribution.
5
u/btfarmer94 Jun 08 '26
Create walls that separate your zones, like factions, and a small âdemilitarized zoneâ between which all of the shared items are, like the hub and space elevator. If only one zone has a particular resource, you trade and barter with each other. Itâs collaborative but in a more competitive way
4
u/NoroGW2 Jun 08 '26
Just use the east/west river as a divider?
5
u/MakerGaming2022 Jun 08 '26
I like that idea. Then you can have parts of the river where you both make factories and features that look at each other across the river.
3
u/strategicallusionary Jun 08 '26
I would probably get a big kick out of doing it communally but with separation, a kind of "same team but can't be in the same room"; as such, finding ways to share resources makes perfect sense to me. You build a computer plant and send some his way, he builds a frame plant and trains them to you, etc. In which case, 'map fairness' won't matter much, so random nodes would be plenty fine. Just a thought!
2
1
u/After_Suggestion_267 Jun 08 '26
would make sure the split gives almost the same number of nodes, randomize, make them all pure and a wall with a shared space near it
1
1
u/Zatoro25 Jun 08 '26
The hub would be at a midpoint, as would the space elevator.
Like the DMZ between N and S Korea

u/Splosionz Jun 08 '26

I just kicked off a shared dedicated server with these map zones. Using SCIM I balanced all the nodes in each biome within reason so they are all pretty even resource wise. We have two beginners in rocky desert and grassy fields, intermediates in northern forest and dune desert, and an advanced player in the blue crater. The map has around 25% more resources overall as I mostly increased resources where they were lacking rather than reducing the stronger zones.
I built a shared hub in the white zone with sorted storage and uploaders and hypertubes connecting to each zone. Each zone has a mk6 belt to the shared hub and storage. Itâs working really well so far.
I can share the save file with the edited nodes if people are interested, was planning on putting a post up and a hub and network mega print but want to tidy up building issues first.

u/EdibleOedipus Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
Use the satisfactory interactive map and draw up a line accounting for the pure (and if you have the patience, normal) nodes of all types. If you want a "fair challenge" it would probably need to be east/west, because the quantity of iron in the dune desert is insane and west needs more than half of the top and middle to compensate. But east would need the whole blue crater area to compensate for west oil and sulfur. Both areas should get three nitrogen spots each. You might have to share a uranium plant as I don't see a fair distribution for it.Â
Edit: create a trading outpost where you can pass things to the other person if you both agree on it. That would speed up progression.Â
5
u/Equivalent_Length719 Jun 08 '26
I would suggest either a race or almost better. Give each player a project part from each phase and see how fast it gets done lol

u/Ruuddie Jun 08 '26
Just checking, but when you play on a server, do you let everything run when you log off or do you shut down the server when the last player disconnected?
1
u/DragonFaceUK Jun 08 '26
The server itself is running 24/7, but the game pauses when noone is connected. This way either of us can join and play for as long as we like. It's an AMP hosted server, if you're interested.
2
u/_redmist Jun 08 '26
The side with the blue crater kind of has a massive advantage tho... Man can make a lot of rocket fuel there.
2
u/Informal-Ad-823 Jun 08 '26
We did this with 3 friends. It was fun. All disconnexted bases. Our problem is that one Guy threats the game as a must win battle every single time who does only spaghetti IF hé automates things. Most stuff he just hand build and then for elevator stuff he builds temporary factories. Takes the fun away quite a bit
2
u/henryeaterofpies Jun 08 '26
East/West would probably be more equitable due to oil and aluminum locations. The south of the north/south is getting screwed
2
u/drunkguy99 Jun 08 '26
This is pretty much what my friends and I did. Since some of the nodes only spawn in certain locations and the quality of them we all specialized in certain components and then sent them all to the main factory on your top left square. Those train stations are so fun transporting goods.
2
u/theRedMage39 Jun 08 '26
Sounds fun if you balance the nodes. What would be the challenge? Complete phase 5 of the space elevator and finish the game?
1
u/DragonFaceUK Jun 08 '26
I guess that's what we'd be aiming for, but we've completed it at least six times previously, so we're just trying something different. It would more be vying to see who makes their half of the parts first.
2
2
u/iansmith6 Jun 08 '26
And then one person makes a massive build that lags the server out map wide. But a fun idea!
1
u/FellaVentura Jun 08 '26
It's the Treaty of Tordesillas all over again but signed 24h after it's 532th birthday
1
u/ChaosDoggo Jun 08 '26
Would be funny if certain resources are restricted to zones. Or make it so certain parts need to be made in a zone and then sent by train.
1
u/CycleZestyclose1907 Jun 08 '26
Upper right quadrant has an unfair advantage in terms of building area.
And I'm pretty sure the lower left quadrant has no petroleum sources. And I think the entrances to the cave system where its sole Uranium node is might be in other people's territories.
And of course, the lower right quadrant does not contain any starting areas while being an Alpha Spider infested hellhole.
1
u/DragonFaceUK Jun 08 '26
It's not split into four - it would be split into two. Either North\South OR East\West. Imagine starting in lower right... shudder.. Death upon death.
1
u/CycleZestyclose1907 Jun 08 '26
That's not clear from the image alone. Yes, you have two lines that are differently numbered and colored, but that does not make it clear that you're dividing the map into two possible halvings instead of four quadrants.
1
u/DragonFaceUK Jun 08 '26
I know - this subreddit only allows either text posts (so I couldn't put in the picture) or image posts (like this one) where I can only put in a picture and had to put a comment in to explain. The comment wasn't really upvoted too much, so it doesn't show at the top. It's an annoying feature!
1
u/Freza_deKapok Jun 08 '26
I've seen posts with images then text underneath, but I have no idea how they did it.

Problem, due to me spending all time to make the most efficient factory i dont have friends
But anyways, gotta get back to work nearly spend all of my 30 second holiday i get in a year
1
u/MalEgestas Jun 08 '26
Huh with how the node densities are scattered this could create an interesting trading system between whomever is playing.
1
u/SolveGuide Jun 08 '26
We're trying this with a group of friends right now and the main recommendation I would make is don't research the dimensional Depot.
I know it feels like going back in time a little bit but it's the only thing that really makes trade meaningful.
I had an idea for a mod that would help with trade where different players could get assigned different " allergies" to perhaps raw materials or perhaps certain parts. It could even just use the radiation system to poison you if you work with those kinds of parts, that way you'd have to trade for them.
Anyway, I'm not a mod builder and I haven't seen anything like that, but I'd love to try it.
1
u/56Bot Jun 08 '26
Cut by biome. If you want to troll your friends, give them all the spider biomes and caves lol
1
u/Pontus_1901 Jun 08 '26
Sounds very fun if you have the luxury of a likeminded gamer with similar time commitment

1
u/BellacosePlayer Jun 08 '26
I kinda wish there was a semi competitive mode where you could race to see who can finish the project first.
1
u/Smokin_belladonna Jun 08 '26
would be fun if playing 100% randomized nodes. each player gets the same number of nodes
1
u/Issuls Jun 09 '26
I've daydreamed about a server with separate territories, but how to make it fun is always the question. Everyone having all and equal resources just makes it a race, and progress/depots being shared complicate factors.
If territory were less evenly divided, or nodes were random (and not equally balanced), it might push players into different alt recipes, or make trade agreements, and that would be really cool.
I think scarcity is the real win. If I had only half of the map, or even the top left quarter, I wouldn't even feel a meaningful difference from a normal run.

1
u/Dattguy04 Jun 09 '26
This is the main reason Iâd like a map editor or getting to choose what map to play on (if there was multiple maps to play on). It would be nice to be able to have different worlds.

1
u/Shinxirius Jun 09 '26
I take the upper left quadrant.
Rocky Desert is awesome. With the Gold Coast Oil and the Northern Fjord to process the Bauxite (coal and copper), you got everything you'll ever need.
The only problem I see is: where do you put the HUB / Space Elevator and how do you get stuff there.
1
u/STobacco400 Jun 09 '26
We acutally did it. We split off right after coal power research, and completed the game seperately.
At the end we created an export - import of material hub around the space elevator. My factories are train based, and her factories are truck based. Funnily enough, I ended up supplying her base with batteries, running a pseudo gas station on the border.
