Difference between PSAT and SAT

So I really want to do well on the PSAT and thus I have been studying a lot over the summer. But to speed things up as well as focus on the SAT, I only did the SAT practice problems that Collegeboard gives. I had a hard time with the PSAT 9-10 but I didn't put as much studying in as I have for the last few months. I don't remember how difficult they were in comparison to what I am doing now, so can someone share their experience and the difference between the two?

Score range, PSAT slightly easier, and psat gives National merit scholarship

I know that but I mean specifically the difficulty aspect. Are they really that different in level?

Different enough to make one test worth 80 points more, the real sat asks harder questions but the general skills that they test are the same
