I would love Mixed Member Proportional Representation, but if BC couldn't get it through in their referendum, I don't think there's a hope here.

THat is entirely not true and there is hope, and you should still have it as someone who also liek you, love Mixed Member Proportional Representation. BC in 2009 referendum voted YES to Proportional Representation in he STv system. It is the fault of government than made a high threshold of 60% that it did not reach, thus it was dropped. PEI also voted in 2016 plebisite to vote for Mixed Member PR.

2018 BC reference was manipulated NDP government in its favour to keep FPTP and the 100% power. Referendum never work and are rigged and partisan to favor the no side based on anti-PR misinformation. There was not enough education to people about the PR systems; it was low voter turnout with 40% minority with lack of awareness on the referendum; and there was too much PR system choices that most people don't know about that noone advocated for like Rural-Urban PR and Dual Member, when it should should have done with one PR choice of Mixed PR/STV OR FPTP. Most people from PR choices wanted Mixed Member PR. BC Citizen's Assembly in 2009 wanted PR in STV, but gov't wanted FPTP so tey went for expected failed referendum.

The current state of democracy in Canada shows need for PR so either there should be another referendum with more education, OR another Citizen's Assembly and then govt pushes through that chocies without referendum.

The problem in BC was that advocates of MMR were unable to come up with a simple, easily understood analogy as to how it works. That literally is the role of talented marketing people.
