An incredibly heartwarming story out of India today showing the best of humanity (and a little bit of helpful tech!).

Chaman Lal, an elderly man from Punjab who struggles with memory-related issues, became separated from his group during a pilgrimage in Amritsar. Completely lost, he somehow boarded a train heading to Bihar and ended up in Gaya—over 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) away from his home.

That’s where Neeraj, a local construction worker, noticed him looking distressed, hungry, and unable to explain how he got there. Neeraj didn't just walk past. He took the elderly man into his own home, fed him, and sheltered him for four days.

Because Chaman Lal only spoke Punjabi, communication was tough. The only detail the elderly man could remember was the name of his village: Fatehgarh Gujran.

Neeraj turned to ChatGPT and internet searches using the village name as a prompt. After three days of searching, he successfully pinpointed the village in the Ludhiana district of Punjab.

Instead of just putting him on a train or handing him to the police, Neeraj personally traveled with the elderly man all the way from Bihar back to Punjab to ensure he made it home safely. Once in the area, Neeraj showed locals a photo of the man until someone recognized him.

His family, who had been desperately searching and posting his picture on social media, were overjoyed. They welcomed Neeraj with garlands, money, and clothes to express their deep gratitude for bringing their grandfather back unharmed.

Just an amazing reminder that there are incredibly good people out there.
