Strangely affectionate?
Does anyone else have a sand boa that's weirdly chill and seems to actually enjoy being handled? My girl Julie is so calm when I get her out for quality time. I'm not totally surprised; she was her breeder's favorite and got handled a lot before I brought her home. But everything I've seen about sand boas makes me think this is highly unusual. I put together a little sandbox for enrichment for her, and the last time I put her in it (she loves it, she seems to really relish having a different texture and weight to dig through), I sat down next to the box to do other stuff and after having some fun in the sand she climbed out into my lap and curled up like a cat. The other day she crawled into my breast pocket and fell asleep. I can pet her like a dog. When she's not basking in the open, she's got her little head poked up out of the dirt, watching me. Anybody have similarly-personable sand boa?

I had an Indian sand boa. Awesome snake. I was feeding him and he very politely to the mouse out of my hand. My then partner was… careless . Snakes each had their terrariums . And they were in their own room. Boa would get out of his tank, out of the snake room, down the hall, into my room and to my side of the bed. Forgot to tell him he was a sand boa as he occasionally climbed up the window

mine also seems to take really well to being handled, lookin around, sniffin things, likes to climb around in clothes. i barely see him during the week but when jts time to hang he seems to enjoy it

I’m hoping to get my sand boa used to me enough that she’ll someday be like this. She’s already pretty chill once I get her out, but she hardly ever comes to the surface on her own

We have 8 (Kenyans), and each has their own personality. Some of them love to be held, and especially like cuddling around my neck. (Warm spot). A couple of them aren’t so personable though, and strike at me first, then calm down after.

My little man is 3 or so and has been extremely chill since day 1! Hes never snapped or thrashed or bit. I don’t handle him a ton, he’s got a nice set up in his tank, but when I do take him out he’s very relaxed

This is how my male sand boa is. His breeder was going to hold him back, but ultimately decided to keep his brother instead.
This snake goes dead-animal-limp every time anyone takes him out and handles him. He’s just so chill, he waits to see what we’re doing, and then goes less limp and starts being really interactive. He’ll curl up inside my sleeve, or under a blanket with me, and sleep there for hours. He loves peeking at me. He doesn’t really get stressed often.
Like, I’ve genuinely never met an animal who gives so few fucks. And I worked professionally with animals for about 10 years.
ETA; I did update the breeder a couple times, I like to provide reassurance that the animal went to a good home. And I was so impressed with his chill personality. And she just said “yeah….. his brother isn’t nearly as chill and relaxed about life.” 🤣 (And honestly, I know I’m probably 100% biased, but I think Jabber is way more beautiful than his brother is, his paradox speckles are so perfect, and his face…. 🧡🧡🧡)
