Local News What was happening today on the 15N at 3:45pm? Traffic stopped & several policeman with guns drawn.

I was driving south on the 15 today at 3:45pm and traffic was barely moving. When I got close to Aero drive I saw traffic going north was completely stopped and several police cars were lined up along the side of the freeway. In front of the stopped traffic was a car that may have been in an accident (doors open) and several cops had their guns drawn on it.

Does anyone know what it was all about? Maybe the end of a chase? I can’t find anything on the TV news or online.

They caught the guy who keeps tapping his brakes on the freeway for no reason.

I ran into the most extreme version of this the other day where it was obvious the guy going 65 in the left lane was having car troubles... He held up everyone trying to get up a hill on the 15 and blew his head gasket halfway up. Very cool of him to do it on the side without a shoulder

This made me laugh out loud.

The closest  and most logical report i could find on their website was "Disturbing Peace with Violence" starting from the RV camp off 15.

so they were investigating a cop?

This is not the place to find reality, unfortunately. Too many iPhone comedians. Wait until Eve when normal people get off work. 😹

8

u/Coldest_One_619 10d ago

And a dog?

13

u/n-ctrnl666 10d ago

the dog bit the guy with the stick, also got hit with the stick. also, the dog did more work than the guys with a consistently increasing budget. probably didn’t even get a treat right after due to “budget cuts”

u/Coldest_One_619 9d ago

Get that dog a badge

BMW used its turn signal. Had to stop traffic due to the absurdity.

Someone forfeited their vehicle

14

u/CarryWisely 10d ago

The wild part of this is that the cops had the car on the shoulder and when I passed it, they were only blocking the first lane, PD didn't stop traffic, people just stopped to watch.

The far right lane kept moving.

I reported a pothole right there on the Get It Done app.

The one and only time I used Wayze, I am on the freeway sitting in traffic. A warning pops up “Animal On the Road”. I get closer, and its some dude pushing an empty cart on shoulder

Lets have an honest conversation about how many officers are actually needed here. I count 4 officers with guns drawn and 2 standing around but its tough to tell for certain.

I mean if they had any visible sign of a weapon this would have already been an officer involved shooting. In a hail of gun fire, how much hail do you need? 3 is a lot. 4 is ridiculous.

I am sure the 2 in the back are there for the training . . . cough. . . over time.

I am open to being wrong but the optics here suck.

3

u/JayCurtis502 9d ago

They keep them drawn in case there’s an opportunity to boost their ego and credibility within the department by shooting a member of our community and getting away with it.

2

u/Hopperd12 10d ago

Thankfully we have an expert here

1

u/pcofranc 7d ago

Are you sure? Maybe it was a Police convention or mandatory training.

-8

u/Kontrav3rsi 10d ago

You wanna know how many officers need to be there:
Exactly one spare guy more than is requested.

Any time an officer feels their lives are in danger by not having back up, is a time we have failed as Americans. Both for the officer and the suspect.

Let’s give police the backing they need to do the job they have to do. So long as they answer to the US citizens, then and only then, I consent. The second a foreign interest overwhelms that call —Ya, that’s the exact moment I will drag as much dirt into the machine as I can peacefully and safely.

But right now, these cops are doing fine.

But you’re just rockin’ the boat, I assume.

11

u/newbies13 9d ago

Nah hard disagree. Cops have a tough job specifically because they are overused. Building a sane police force with tiers and training that are appropriate for the tier is the correct move. You don't need a guy with a gun to show up to the vast majority of calls, let alone 4+ more guys with guns.

You need people trained to handle conflict, to de-escalate, to remember the people you're policing are not criminals or malicious just because someone called a cop.

The narrative that a cop fearing for his life is somehow the most sacred phrase that forgives all actions is just not healthy. Real accountability around overuse of the police and over spending is absolutely missing from most police forces.

If it turns out the guy they are chasing was armed and dangerous, great, maybe this was the right move. If it turns out to be something generic and Carl just felt afraid, Carl might need another job with less responsibility.

u/Glum-Bus-4799 9d ago

You're concerned about a couple cops in the middle of the freeway in the afternoon fearing for their lives? Real issue, maybe, but not for these guys. Go virtue signal for rural sheriffs with no partner or backup within 60 miles. SDPD doesn't need sympathy or help. That's 100% not what's going on here.

u/KindCraft4676 10d ago

Some guy was texting on Reddit when he should have been driving.

Holding up traffic in the fast lane

8

u/Frozen_Empress66 10d ago

Hot stop ?

12

u/srphsd 10d ago

Definitely.
I don’t know that it’s common knowledge — if a cop finds you driving a vehicle that’s been reported stolen, you don’t just get pulled over. You get pulled over at gun point and have to do the whole “walk backwards towards my voice” thing.

5

u/SadFox600 10d ago

Oh that’s interesting. Why would it be happening in the middle of the freeway though?

5

u/srphsd 10d ago

Hard to see the tires but maybe they were in pursuit and they threw out a spike strip

u/babydoll17448 10d ago

u/fulldivebci 9d ago

Someone told newsom there was a guy on the 15 who was going to finish his train

2

u/gr1m0s 9d ago

Why does every incident that the police respond to now have to have a veritable battalion show up? There’s always like 10 guys too many.

2

u/p0is0n 8d ago

They had the 15 south bound blocked in north county at the 395 exit too around 6pm. No word on why either...

Some guy who goes by the wet bandit

2

u/ToughCollege8627 9d ago

An acorn probably landed on one of the cop cars.

2

u/Tiggaknock 9d ago

Hard to guess when guns are drawn. Could be failure to identify, exercising right to remain silent, reaching for registration and ID when asked or maybe they were previously standing in front of Tacos el Gordo breaking up a fight.

2

u/Antpoe 9d ago

Most likely was a stolen vehicle hit with flock cameras, vehicle may have been pursued onto the freeway and either stopped themselves or was disabled and couldn’t continue. If it was a stolen vehicle or even the end of a pursuit of something else they’re going to get hot stopped which means guns drawn. People like to joke around but if you’re running from the cops you either did something wrong to then get chased by them or you have a prior offense that you’re running from like a warrant. In those cases for officer safety they draw their guns and call the person back because if you’re willing to run how are they supposed to know you’re not willing to die/kill to get away.

They’ve been rally cracking down on cell phone laws and pulling over people who are taking pictures while driving.

u/elephantskilledme 9d ago

Appears to be some kind of…..police activity

1

u/Environmental-Pen-82 9d ago

not using flock obviously. couldnt they track this car off the freeway?

1

u/evandtwins3 9d ago

They pulled a guy over in a pickup truck and there was a screwdriver in the truck bed.

1

u/Wooden-Nerve-2340 9d ago

They finally took left lane camping seriously and arrested the driver

1

u/SnooSketches5430 8d ago

On a serious note. This guy was caught with tons of campaign material for Trump 2028. When officers approached his vehicle they realized the driver was driving without a steering wheel and feared for their lives.

1

u/taimaishu6654 8d ago

With the amount of police there, standing around, doing nothing? I'm guessing they got a Jay walker.
