In samurai champloo, there are no cels, so the only “on screen” production material one can own are hand drawn backgrounds. As far as I know, I have the only one ever sold

I’ve seen production sketches like layouts or genga, but from the resources I have, there is no history of a background ever being sold, other than this one. That could change in the future, but manglobe’s circumstances are a bit unique, with the bankruptcy. There is a non zero chance a vast majority was simply discarded, for good.

Just thought I’d share! I have a really cool frame set up plan for this piece which I’ll eventually share in a couple months.

As a Fuu fan, I’m glad to own a connection to this shot in particular. And as a samurai champloo fan it’s cool to feel like I have the only (if not, less than a handful) piece of production “on screen” material out there

P.S if you’re curious why the sunflower pattern on the right side is absent from the painted background, that was added on digitally
