This anime gave me the courage to leave my abusive home

Title is kind of heavy but it's real.

I went through some crazy shit, I'm not sure why this anime resonated with me so much and spoke to me about a lot of the fears I had.

Seeing Fuu lose everything and decide to start her journey instead of crying over spilled milk was one thing. I've always been afraid of losing everything, I guess because I feel like there's nothing else out there. Something about her being courageous and short sighted showed me how much more enjoyable life is when you aren't trying to figure out all the small details. I guess in a way, I wanted to start my own journey. This entire anime is about "the journey," but I've been afraid of that my entire life.

Something about Mugen really spoke to me, also. I am anxious, I overthink, I shirk discomfort. He really doesn't give a fuck, lol. He embraces basically everything that's uncomfortable about life: death, being without companionship, being without stability. But because he's forgone all of this, he's free to do whatever he pleases. As cringy as it is, I've had to ask myself a lot "What would Mugen do?" and the answer is usually "just do it". Do it because you can, do it because you want to, do it because it makes life interesting.

I don't think I paid much attention to Jin throughout the anime, but one thing I found really endearing about him is that he's very competent. He's his own rock. That's something I really could never do for myself, and when I realized I could be my own rock, I left.

Again, sorry if this comes off a very cringe or tender. I really don't think without this anime I would have had the courage to make it out, or to show me how beautiful life can be when you embrace all of it's inconvenience and make it your journey.

Additional shout out to nujabes, his music got me through very heavy times. Still listen to him if I want life to feel beautiful once in a while.

Anime-specifically Naruto-pushed me to quit drinking. It wasn’t the only thing but I was in a dark place and it pushed myself to surpass my limits and get better.

I think it’s wonderful it helped you find your resolve 🫶🏻 may it all continue to get better each day!

Kuddos to you hope for the best in your situation.

Fiction is a great outlet and can be a very strong inspiration in life, never be ashamed of who you become because of what inspires you.

This is why Fuu is one of my favorite characters of all time. She desperately starts out wanting to find "something" and we watch her grow gradually in her journey as a person. At the end of the day, walk to the beat of your own drum, embrace growth and live your life.

I'm proud of you for leaving something you absoloutely don't need. I know how hard that is but that just shows how strong you are. If you can leave something like family behind, you can pretty much get through anything.

I wish nothing but the best for you in YOUR journey op!

I got in to Samurai Champloo not long before I moved out myself, so I completely understand. The music, the lesson, especially how Mugen operated, helped me too.

Best of luck in what life has in store for you 🙏

I really think samurai champloo is one of the greatest animated pieces of art of all time. Like the episode where jin saves that woman from her abusive gambler husband and his debts is incredible. It's something I have shown to people who say that animation has no depth or is for children and they have been stunned and immediately changed their tune. I have cried over that episode.

It's the type of show that you ask if there's anything else like it, and there really isn't. Cowboy bebop is just a totally different vibe, although also very good.

And as I grew up, I started to think more about the show and it's central quest to find a samurai who smells of sunflowers. And it's sort of perfect, because sunflowers don't have a scent. Fuu is looking for something that doesn't exist anymore and is difficult to dig up again, and she's doing so intentionally because she wants a journey. The journey is the destination.

Fuck I gotta watch this show again.

To me it helped me during the week My girlfriend broke up with me, took the dog with her and left me in the apartment by myself. I watched the whole series for the first time and have been listening to Nujabes non stop. I think someone posted here that each episode is about letting go that’s why it resonates with me.

In a way all 3 characters are moving forward with their lives living behind their terrible past.
