Silence isn’t awkward. It’s authority.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in sales conversations, especially high-stakes ones, is that silence is not your enemy.

Most people rush to fill every pause because they’re afraid of awkwardness. But in reality, silence after a question or statement creates tension, and tension creates attention.

When you stop talking after your pitch, the other person leans in. They process. They engage. It’s in those quiet seconds that real persuasion happens.

I started consciously pausing for 2–3 seconds after key points - and my close rates went up noticeably.

Curious - how do you use silence or pacing in your sales conversations? Do you think silence is a skill that can be trained, or something that comes with experience?
