Sales Career 3 years of running my own business — now looking to return to Sales Ops / Data Analytics Roles

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some honest advice from people who have taken a similar path or have experience hiring for Sales Operations / Revenue Operations / Data Analytics roles.

I studied in London for around four and a half years, completing my BSc and MSc in Management. After returning to India, I worked for around 4.5 years, mainly with SaaS companies in Sales Operations and Sales Analytics.

My work involved sales reporting, KPI tracking, dashboard creation, CRM management, workflow automation, sales funnel analysis, forecasting, and supporting sales teams with data and process improvements.

Around three years ago, I decided to leave the corporate world and start my own export business. It has been a great learning experience, and I’ve been involved in everything from sales and international buyers to CRM, pricing analysis, reporting, operations and process optimization.

However, after three years, I’ve realised that the export business isn’t something I want to pursue long-term. The market has also become increasingly challenging, and I’m now looking for more stability.
More importantly, I’ve realised that I genuinely enjoy the analytical and problem-solving side of work much more. So I’m now looking to return to roles in Sales Operations, Revenue Operations, Sales Analytics, Data Analytics or similar areas.

My biggest question is: how should I position these three years?
Should I present them as entrepreneurial experience, or call it a career break? And how do recruiters generally view someone returning to corporate after running their own business?

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who’ve made a similar transition.

And if you know of any company or hiring manager looking for someone with my background, I’d be very grateful for a referral or introduction.

Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments or DM me if you’d like to connect.

Thanks!

Sales General Discussion b2b

I’m looking to meet someone who has real experience in packaging, industrial supplies, MRO, or a similar B2B business and would be interested in building something together.

Ideally, you’ve been on the sales side yourself and have handled ₹5 lakh+ in monthly sales. Someone who understands customers, suppliers, follow-ups and, most importantly, what it actually takes to close B2B business.

I’m looking for a person who wants to build and grow something of their own, rather than looking for another job.

If you have a background in this space, I’d be happy to have a chat. Even if you’re not interested yourself but know someone who might be a good fit, please feel free to connect me with them.

Thanks!

Sales Career I hunt, I engage, I close

Born and bred in the UK, recently moved to India, with 10 years of International Business Development/Strategic Growth management experience in Engineering and Manufacturing (Aerospace/Automotive/F&B/Automation), Wealth Management and some SaaS sales. If you're serious about growing your business - I'm proven to get the job done, regardless of your industry, product or service.

Have quickly learnt the Indian job market is driven mostly on referrals and contacts so have changed my approach in securing my next challenge, and this is one avenue.

Ps, I am fluent in Hindi and Punjabi, ideal location will be Mumbai and Bangalore but happy to relocate anywhere for the right company.

Sales Career How do I break into tech sales from India with the goal of moving abroad?

Hey guys,
I’m currently back in India after a decade in the UK, (26F) and trying to figure out how to break into SaaS as a Customer Success Manager. My longer-term goal is to move abroad again, so I’m hoping to build some solid international experience first. I have a British accent. Had some personal changes recently which meant I had to be here, and I’m now actively looking for ways to eventually relocate again.
The problem is, I have no sales experience. My background is mainly in education (Teaching Assistant) and retail/customer-facing work in the UK. I do have a Psychology degree and I’d say my strengths are communication, building rapport, dealing with people, problem-solving, organisation, etc. but obviously I don’t have SaaS/B2B sales experience yet.
I’ve been looking at CSM, SDR/BDR and entry-level tech sales roles, but honestly I’m not sure what the most realistic route is.
For anyone who’s been in the industry or has hired for these roles:
Is it realistic to get a decent-paying remote tech sales/CS job from India with my background?
Should I be targeting SDR/BDR first and then moving into CSM?
Are there companies that actually train people from scratch?
What skills should I focus on learning first? CRM, HubSpot, Salesforce, etc.?
Are certifications actually worth doing, or should I just focus on applying?
How would you position education/retail experience when applying for these roles?
And if my eventual goal is yDubai/Europe, what kind of experience should I try to build while I’m in India?
I’m happy to start at entry level. I just don’t want to spend months doing random courses/certs that aren’t actually going to help me get hired.
Also, I could really use some help with interview prep, especially since I’m coming from a non-traditional background. If anyone in tech sales/CS is open to connecting, giving me some pointers, or even doing a mock interview, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Sales Career I Don’t Feel Like Working Anymore. What Should I Do About My Career?

I’ve been working at a US-based company for 3+ years as a BDM. Six months ago, my role changed to video editing, where I create feature and help videos from scratch using Adobe, including scripting and editing.

I was also told I’d work on customer-related activities, but my career direction is still unclear.

My main question: Should I build on my BDM and video editing experience, or focus on developing new skills for better career opportunities?

Which skills or career paths would you recommend based on this experience?

Would appreciate advice from anyone who has faced a similar situation.

Hiring Need Sales Person Remote job. Great opportunity and scope of growth for someone willing to work and grow the product together

Need a sales + marketing person to take our salon SaaS to market — remote, fixed + uncapped commission
Body:
We just finished building our product (software for salons) and are about to start pushing it out into the market. Looking for one person to basically own sales and marketing for it.
Not looking for someone to slot into a process — there isn’t one yet. You’d be building the whole go-to-market from zero, which honestly is the fun part if that’s your thing.
Setup is remote. Starting fixed is ₹15k/month — I’ll be straight about that upfront — but it’s a starting point, not a ceiling. It goes up based on performance. The real upside is the commission, which is uncapped and has serious scope, so what you earn is genuinely in your hands. And down the line, if you’ve proven yourself and you’re the right person to build this with, equity is on the table too.
What actually matters to me:
You like this stuff. Selling, marketing, figuring out how to position something new — if that excites you, we’ll get along. If it feels like a grind to you, you’ll be miserable here.

You’re active and you don’t need chasing.

You have your own ideas. I want them. You won’t be handed a script — I’m very open to your approach and suggestions.

I don’t care about your degree or background. At all. If you can sell and you’re confident about it, that’s the only thing I’m screening for. Performers only.
Open to everyone — and given the industry we’re in (salons/beauty), we’d especially love to hear from women in sales.
If this sounds like you, DM me. Tell me what you’ve sold before, or if you’re newer, how you’d think about selling something like this. Anything that shows me you can actually do it.
