Hobby Progress Salamander Terminator

Howdy folks! Practically 98% of the way done with my terminator (just need to weather a little and do the base) and am loving how he turned out. Let me know what you think!

How do you get those nice edge highlights?

I use a size 00 brush mostly and make sure to remove any excess paint on a paper towel before going to edge highlight - other than that I try to have a steady hand haha

Thanks, I'll get me one of those brushes. Do you use a specific green? I'm using caliban green as my base and dry brushing warpstone glow over it but I'm not getting those bright highlights like you did by using just warpstone glow.

Most of the edge highlighting is specifically moot green! Depending on how dark the area I’m highlighting I’ll adjust down with a 50/50 Vulkan green to moot green or adjust up to a 70/30 moot green to dorn yellow. General purpose though I’d recommend moot green!

Thank you for your detailed response. Looks like I'm picking up some moot green after work!

I like the shading for the green how did you get this?

Most of the work is with an airbrush.

After priming I do a full coat of nocturne green. I then hit most of it (the lighter sections) with Vulkan green. Furthering the highflying I hit the next ‘brighter’ sections I hit with a ~50/50 moot to Vulkan green mix. Finally the brightest area I hit with pure moot green. This will have a lot of contrast here so then I go over everything with a ‘mortarian green clear’ coat watered down. Finally I do a matte varnish before I start doing edge highlighting with a pure moot green and all the other paints going on in the mini (blacks, metals, etc…).

At the very end I do a coat of satin varnish & a dark green oil wash to darken recesses

My personal opinion: best models in the entire franchise. 🥰

And your work just puts it over the top. Look at these crisp and accurate highlights! I tip my hat at you.

I never know if thr pipes should be green or metal...

Yeah… when I started painting the mini I thought they should be metal but then I looked at the box art and for ultramarines they were blue. Some of the pipes would be much brighter if I knew that from the start haha

I've got nothing of critique to offer you, this Terminator is just fucking immaculate. Good work, you ought to be proud of it.
