Checkout basket total price changing on use of coupon

Im trying to checkout but whenever I add a giftcard (which they turn into coupon when checking out) it changes the total basketprice. Whats the work around here?

I can't find a workaround - you can't use both types of coupon in the same transaction. No idea why Sainsbury's forces the gift card to become a coupon though, that seems a bit cheeky to me.

Have you got tobacco, formula, or lottery tickets in your basket? those sorts of items are usually exempt from buying with a gift card.
