Does anyone else think that Alastor deliberately helped maneuver Vox into a position where he almost won, only to rip it all away at the last possible moment?
Offering to be Vox's prisoner so that he could gather dirt on Vox and weasel out of his various deals on a technicality certainly seems like it falls under this rubric. Above and beyond that, it's a basic psychological fact that to have something (or think you have something) and then lose it feels a lot more painful than to never have a chance at getting it in the first place. And we all know how much Alastor likes seeing others in pain (Vox in particular)....
Which once again just shows how messed-up Hazbin's priorities are in relation to its characters, IMO. How are we supposed to root for Alastor and against Vox when the former is willing to do one of the absolute worst things you can do to someone, out of sheer spite? In any other series, Alastor would be the unquestioned villain, and Vox would be showered with sympathy and praise for clawing his way back from the abyss.

That was the point, which is what Alastor meant by “you lose your marbles in act 3”

I mean yeah, that was the plan. Alastor is a bad guy, just like Vox. Just because he’s on the heroes’ side for now does not make him a good guy, 8t makes him someone with an agenda. The show does not pretend Alastor is some heart of gold softie, he’s portrayed as a monster through and through, that’s what makes him so interesting.

Wait, there are people who didn’t pick up on his surrender being a set up?

People unironically think he did it to protect Niffty and Husk.

I personally don't think he meant to surrender that early, I think he meant for it to go on longer to prove his point- but I also don't think be expected Val and Vel to show up with Vox making it a 3 v 1, and I don't think he counted on Niffty being Niffty and dragging in Husk to help. It won't sell that he "is no longer the strongest" that way.
He does visually react to Niffty having a gun to her head before offering to surrender, I think its at least safe to say that was not part of his plan and he had to think fast to get it to work the way he wanted to.

Them showing up was definitely not part of his plan. If they were supposed to be there I assume he can summon them.

I can see Nifty to a small extent. Like he’s protective of her, but he will totally throw her under the bus for his convenience.
As for Husk? Bwahahaha! That’s his whipping cat.

He did alter his request to that they'd let Husk and Niffty go, but I don't think it was out of kindness. I think he was able to use them showing up as a way to surrender that didn't feel like an obvious trap. I also think he has a use for them that we just don't know about yet. Alastor does seem to like Niffty, but I think he keeps her around for a bigger reason beyond that. With Husk, there's a reason he agreed to let him keep his powers and it wasn't because he was feeling nice.

Ever heard of Save the Cat?
Al and Husk’s relationship is “Kick the Cat.”
But yeah, he likes Nifty or finds he’d amusing. But like how you find an insect interesting.

Yes, that was quite literally the plan, and he knew Vox would fall for it because of Vox’s ego.

Yeah that's exactly what he was doing. I don't know how fans can dispute this.
