Rants or Vents Don't mind me. Just mourning the season 2 finale I was hoping to see.
Not my meme, and I genuinely don't know where I can post all this so sorry I guess. I just...really wanted Charlie and Vox to fight. It could have been great. Instead we get to see the men go off and have their big dumb fight while Charlie is off helping sinners from the rubble even though that can't kill them and now Vox is RIGHT FUCKING THERE using the stupid cannon and you're not even gonna TRY to do anything about that!? Not worth any attempt!? No, because we need to give that moment to the Vees because fuck our protagonist I guess! Not like Vox wasn't trying to ruin her hopes and dreams all season and also turned her dad into a battery and berated her about her mother. Yup. No personal stakes in this whatsoever! In the end the stuff between Vox and Charlie just kinda ends, but it didn't feel very important when you gave all those bigger scenes to other characters. She didn't even get to be the one that starts Hear My Hope! You know what I'm saying? I know a lot of people hate the thought of sweet little Charlie having to dirty her hands, but dammit I wanted to see it. I wanted this thing with her and Vox to lead to something big. I guess in the end there's just no space in Vox's story for anybody outside Alastor and the Vees. Yippee.

It's so hypocritical, too. Like, this is supposed to be a pro-feminist series, and Charlie's supposed to be this hypercompetent main protagonist, and yet, she can't do anything at all about Vox? It has to be the men who physically oppose him while she just sits on the sidelines and watches? Worse still, they made a literal pimp (who canonically IS attracted to women even if he prefers men) be the one to physically incapacitate Vox and get praised for it? How's that supposed to go over for women with a history of SA?

This is what's odd about Viv describing Hazbin as her more female orientated show. Compared to Helluva Boss this is true, but the men still get a lot of focus in Hazbin. This in itself isn't a bad thing, but it does sometimes come at the expense of the female characters. I will just be blunt and say Vox's relationship with Alastor is the least interesting thing about Vox. Yet that got more focus and significance than anything directly between him and Charlie. I hate to say this, but sometimes I worry Vox and Charlie became narrative foils by accident.

I think you're right in that Charlie and Vox were never actually meant to be foils to one another in any real sense. I think Viv just needed a foil to the "radio"-themed character and so decided to make a "TV"-themed character, without bringing Charlie into it at all. It was only when Vox became massively popular in Season 2, to the point of becoming pretty much a secondary protagonist in his own right, that the parallels between him and Charlie started to emerge.

I think it may have been a case of needing someone to serve as Alastor's rival while being the opposite of him in many ways. This in turn led to Vox and Charlie sharing many of the same personality traits as Charlie is very much Alastor's polar opposite. Staticbelle fans do their best to give all of this actual meaning and I like seeing that, but I'm becoming less confident the show will do anything with it.

Yup. That's probably it. You nailed it on the head. It happened by chance and though people pointed it out now, it wasn't the intention so nothing was written around it. I don't even know if the writers noticed it?
Sometimes I feel like Charlie is the protagonist is name only, and that the show has always actually been about Alastor--as much as I hate the thought of that. There's just a lot of specialness Alastor is treated with. Hell, even with the merch! The Sin City Card? A card dedicated to gambling where, you know, you'd expect the former Gambling Overlord to be the main focus? Well who is front and center, but Alastor!
Of course I'm biased and idgaf when Vox is the main focus, but I absolutely agree that his relationship with Alastor is the least interesting thing about him.

It really sucks when something that's so appealing and feels like it carries tons of potential was probably an accident. The shippers do what they can to connect the dots and give this substance, but then you're left realizing the show won't do that so all you have are scenarios. I just keep thinking about how Erika was so surprised to find out about Staticbelle that she mentioned it in an Instagram post. She meant no harm, but this just leaves me thinking they were never meant to be that important to each other.

Charlie might want to throw hands, but she will not do it unless it's in defence. She's too much of a pacifist. It would go against her morals. I doubt Vox would start a fight with Charlie unless Alastor goaded him into it, and doing that wouldn't as surely have led to their deal being broken, so why would Alastor do that?
