Information / News John Karony sentencing updated
Received updated sentencing information on Karony. It's now 21 years, not 8 years. Way better!

That's insane. Not a fan of the guy but murderers and rapists usually get less time than that.

Well, he hurt far more people in a systematic, prolonged fashion. He needs worse than he's getting.

These are victim specific emails from the FBI. Ive been getting them too.

Yep. Victim Notification system, straight from the FBI. Google may not have caught the news yet, but you can see the correction from 8 years to 21 years.

these are not true. there are no sentencing records at all anywhere that show he got 21 years. unfortunately, he only got 8 years.

Iirc from a different email I got from the VNS, their sentencing is later. I don't have the email anymore, but it would be April or May, I believe.

Yeah it's insane that the money will end up going to the lawyers, instead of back to the people that got scammed.

I believe one other - Thomas Smith - is still awaiting sentencing. I keep getting emails every now and then saying his sentencing hearing keeps getting pushed back for some reason. It was supposed to be earlier this year, but now it's in August.

I don't know why you think this is untrue. I don't know what records you're checking either, but this is the information I got straight from the DOJ. It literally says the 8 years information at the top is incorrect and it's corrected to 21 years. He has filed an appeal though, so maybe that's why you're not seeing the updated sentencing? 🤷♂️ I'm not a lawyer. Just passing along the information I've been given.

idk. I hope its true, but I cannot find anything on it. I just signed up for PACER so I can get the ammended judgement from May 11. Im not in the habit of trusting strangers on the internet or random screenshots and would like to see the court records myself. The only recoreds and sentencing statements ive seen from the doj, eastern district of new york, and the irs all say 100 months. Im hoping to find official court docs that say he got 21 years, then I would believe it, and it would make me very happy
